  1. It maybe the lamp is (or was) over its Hrs, as a lamp ages its UV output goes up exponentially this is what burns the filters not as some belive the heat. You must always change the lamps at their rated Hrs anyway let me know how it goes with your emailing the supplier. Marc Projector Engineer

  4. Yes that is common where people have not had their projector serviced or the lap has not been changed at its correct hrs, see my post on Lap Life and how it works. Marc Projector Engineer

DLP? you mean whats wrong with DLP?, they are so unreliable to many moving parts, they have a high speed spinning disk inside this rotates at very high speed and its very brittle so any movement causes it to flex and oftem break (shatter) most projectors can be repaired quite cheaply untill you get to DLP, try a search on here for Unify 35, its a smart board DLP unit made by NEC for smart look at what people say about it. DLP is definatly NOT to be used as a portable unit because of its inherent problems, LCD is more reliable and in practice more efficiant (power wise) and brighter per watt. LCD units are less prone to damage by movement and new lamp tech on say Epson means instant off and can move them even when on so will take accidentle bumps in use with no problem. I know LCD units still in use from 9 years ago and still serviceable. Marc Projector Engineer
  6. Please dont buy a DLP projector especially for portable use it will prove very unreliable they do not like being knocked or moved within 30 mins of switching off. I would recomend a Epson x9 5 year cover including lamp and instant off tuff and small difficult to damage with in built lens cover. Marc Projector Engineer

  10. I think you will find it is the ballast unit that has a fault, this drives the lamp, i think on those the unit is NEC and discontinued, chepest option would be to replace it with another projector either Hitachi or Epson for reliability. Marc Projector engineer

  13. No but i can who has your projector now and what model is it what was the fault when you sent it away? Please,.....just because a lamp lights does not mean it is OK, lamps have a life at the end of it the lamp may still light but it may be drawing too much current and damage the projectors ballest unit in which case a replacement would be needed. qoute from my previous posting about lamps :- the way lamps operate is often not understood you wont of course remember but during the WW2 we used search lights very large reflectors using 2 largs rods between which jumped a spark, this was a huge (bear with me) this produced a huge amount of light to light up aircraft in the sky. Ok now our little projector lamps are very like these, the large search lights had motor driven rods so as they burnt down the where driven together to keep the gap constant (impotant bit). Our little lamps cant do this so the gap gets bigger, so what the projector does is turn up the voltage in an attempt to maintain brightness over its life as the rods get eaten away (no one asleep yet?) So this has 3 downsides with larger gap the heat goes up as its a bigger spark and funnily enough it is not the heat that burns the LCD and polerising panals it is the UV light that increases exponentialy the third thing is the current goes up from the power supply with the attempt to maintain the brightness (nearly there). The power and ballest unit the control the lamp become stressed if they work too hard, by over running the lamp as the gap becomes to big so next lamp in will not be as bright due to the powersupply /ballest being stressed the first time (cost to replace ballest depending on unit £250 plus) and the UV may have dimmed by burning the polerising filters (yellowing). So moral of the story DONT DO IT, change your lamp at around 2500 hrs regardless of how bright YOU still think it is and DEFINATLY DONT wait till it doesnt light anymore as this is way too late. A maintained projector should easily last 7 to 8 years. Marc Projector Engineer

How may hours do you have on it? has the lamp been changed at the correct times IE. 2000Hrs it sounds like its had an over run lamp beyond it hrs and the high UV then produced has scorched the polerising filters, Deep cleaning is not an end user task, it has to be completly dismantled in a dust free room and rebuilt optical engines are not ajustable by end users. The only other things it may be is a collapsed lamp but it would be highly unusual, last thing it may be also rare would be LCD problems, i would need to see it if you IM me a picture i can help you more or you can ring me for FREE advice. Oh dear,....the things some suppliers tell customers.....yes of course ANSI lumen apply it is a measure of brightness at several points on the projected image and then averaged out, so regardless of colour temp ANSI works there are some factors of frequency of the light source but in the main it equates. And light output from LED source and Mecury lamp source 2000 ANSI is the same with both that’s why they use it to establish a standard. But make sure they are quoting ANSI Lumens and not just Lumens as that would make a slight difference. One lumen is about = 1 candle power (actually .98) with a reference candle (no honest they do have them). In a normal class (with mainly glass on one side) I would not fit a projector less than 2500 ANSI Lumens. So a projector of only 2000 Lumens is not quite there and after about a year of dust in it it will be a lot less bright no matter what the blurb on it says, i have never seen yet a projector that does not need cleaning periodically, no i dont mean filters i mean stripping and optical engine clean.   17. I see what your asking it sounds like you have a faulty lamp i suspect your lamp may have been switched off without cooling causing it to distort this can cause the problems you describe of lamp shutting off after switch on. you only option is to try a new lamp. Marc Projector Engineer

I would be keen to test one of these, but i do notice on trhe samsung site Lamp Life >30000 Hours (Eco) not 50,000 as mentioned above? also with LED the half life is very important that is the amount of time till the lamp is half as bright as it was when new (LED lamps get dimmer with age), and as the lamp is not replaceable..................need i go on. I think ultimately the answer to all the this is some company needs to invent a replacement LED lamp for the normal NONE LED projectors so you can just swap lamps, everything else has not changed you still need to service LED projectors (deep clean) they still have fans that will die after around 7 to 8,000 hrs and capacitors in the switch mode PSU that will dry out and pop. Just to clarify, DLP does not rule out the fan its just the disk that creates the colours spins at a fairly high rate this is one of the common faults of the DLP projector and the main reason why they are so unreliable and difficult to repair, the noise from this is often confused with a noisey fan, after a while they can become very noisey and in a lot of instances start to viberate at this point you may start to lose contrast and colour definition. This is why many companys will not lower themselves to produce DLP projectors, also light output from DLP because of the way they produce colour can be between 20 to 30% down per lamp watt. The "pink" is dust on the Optical engine, yes it needs a deep clean i do NOT recomend you atempt this yourself most people do not have a clean enough envioment, a deep clean and full rebuild costs £70, for this the projector is tested striped to the case all parts cleaned assembled and re tested checking light output befor and after and quality. Most projectors should last around 7 years if serviced, if you leave this dust in it will create a hotspot and burn the eliments of the LCD optical engine. Marc Projector Engineer

And don’t turn of your projectors if your away for less that 90 mins, remember you can not see he wear in a lamp and neither can your projector.
