When was this projector last serviced? How many hrs doers it have on it? I would expect projectors that are serveced to last around 12 to 15,000 hrs. this is ONLY if lamps have not been over run, by that i mean not run beyond their normal hrs, you should idealy change your lamps at around 2500 hrs, using beyond this will stress the ballest unit and give progressively dimmer output with each lamp change. The Unifi 35 is unfotunatly a DLP projector so it may not be the fan, i see a lot of these and many are not repairable due to cost. WE are aproved installers, a normal charge for a full install is around £350 that includes whiteboard (+2) the projector only depends on what you have already if you mean to swap for another then around £30, if it involves a pole move then around £100, if its a freash install and is to include all fitting and cables to a wall mounted box (but no whiteboard) around £200. I hope this helps, but please make sure you have your asbestos certificate ready for the installer, every install should ask for this BEFORE doing any work in any room. Marc Projector Engineer

Hi the problem seems like it might be a LCD panal problem, i have seen this a number of times if its the same problem it is a resonable repair should cost around £50 but to make sure it is what i think it is do you get the stripes on the menu when no VGA is connected? Marc Projector Engineer

I am fully aware of LED life and in practice it tends to be shorter, but i see no published HalfLife as with plasma and LED TVs. My point is i am reserving judgement and as for quality they are not as sharp as most LCD projectors as mentiond above "after" my post "Wasn't blown away by the brightness/image quality" this is mentioned all over the forums you dont have to take my word for it? So as i say i will "for now" reserve judgement. As for changing to a DLP projector , not a good idea we see more DLP than anything LCD are much more reliable and longer lived by a long long way, the reliablility of DLP and coulours leave a lot to be desired. Any of the new LCD are good value the Epson X8 very good price now with 5 year lamp, and on site cover, and lamp replacement on just over £100 Marc Projector Engineer

The only thing that concerns me with these projectors is like lamps LEDs and Lasers brightness will drop off same as a lamp so what is the half life of these units? and what if in 3 years time they are not bright enough? and you cant change the lamp? I know the quality is not as good as a normal projector but the brightness does concern me, but saying that i have not had one apart yet so i reserve judgment. Marc Projector Engineer

It sounds like overheating, it may need a deepclean that is a dismantle and clean then rebuild cost should be around £70 Most projectors are repairable as long as the lamp has not been over run. Marc Projector Engineer

You are pushing it, you need around 200 lumens at the screen and you wont get it if your screen is bigger than about 75" with that projector, also they are not good for a hall as you usually mount higher than classrooms so you have to think of servicing it and changing lamps, you need a better class of projector altogether, min 3500 lumens at projector will give you around 200 lumens to a 105" screen, again many makes available but i have done far less repairs on Epson than any other make. Casio....hmmmm remeber their watches, most other makers are briging better soloutions out also LED if you want to go that route, but i would not recomend LED at this time, they actually have no benifit. It sounds like you have not had this serviced, and it has now burnt the polerising filter, this can be replaced and the projector will also need a deep clean make sure it goes to a proper engineer as setting up a filter can damge your contrast and true black. If you describe the area of yellow, is it all over because as mentioned above it can be a broken wire in the VGA, but if a patch then probably buring. Marc Projector Engineer

Hi everyone, OK boards can be mounted at any hight but you must realise the angle of the projector is important you must NOT under any circumstances tilt the projector more than 20 deg out of level, this will harm and shorten its life, i have seen many projectors even mounted feet down?????????? Best baords for early years are +2 and smart vari hight lift unit, this can also be used on other boards clever being a good board as it is indestructable and can be written on with almost anything (good for early years) and can be cleaned. Any short throw projector would help you Hitacch 100A, or Epson ultra close range (Epson being preferable to all other in running cost and reliability), if you require further advice i would be pleased to assist you, we fit many of these every week. Yes that is not to bad a help sheet but it doesnt go far enough for most cleans, the optical engine needs dismantleing as well and the front silvred mirrors also need cleaning as they degrade the image. BUT unless you are very competent i would not recomend any of this to be done by untrained users, if you move the polerising filters out of allignement you will lose blacks and contrast or worse. This is DEFINATLY not an end user project unless you have projectors spare to practice on. And is it worth doing it yourself what is your time worth and the risk of damaging a projector, as the normal cost for having this done is only £70 Marc Oglesby Projector Engineer

I have tested many of these units, i have found the best one by far is the MOS150 it was being discounted from Argos cost is around £89 inc vat, it has lan socket wifi and presets for many channels. Marc Projector Engineer

need a little more info is it mounted inverted? if so i have seen them lose the sensor and it drops down in to the light path causing it to shut down in around 10 mins or so. This is not a job for an end user so return to your service support people. It can be lamp the lamps are arc lamps and the gap gets bigger with age causing more heat and power requierments also go up, this can cause the PSU (inside) to overheat as well, all of these can be tested easly by any competent engineer on site. You might try it on a table feet down to test it if it is an inverted normally projector it may then stay on confirming the sensor problem. You can also check to see if airflow is restrcted that means a clearance of more that 1 inch all around the air vent is required make sure this is so in operation. One point NEVER reset the lamp hours unless you change the lamp. anything else i will try to help you Marc Projector Engineer

It all depends on the data rate, some wirless connections are only meant for a powerpoint type presentation and not video, there are addons to make any projector full VGA wirless so they will stream HD video if required, but i would need to know more details about make of projector and what video are you hoping to stream. You need to convert it to lan as comp will not run much more than about 30mtrs depending on source less if you split it with no amp, so convert it to lan run cable to your location switch it back to coax you can if you want also send your audio over the same lan cable. Using twisted pair (lan cable) you can achive very long runs with very little loss of quality. Marc

Yes you can get projectors under £400 but what is the on site warrenty and lamp cost like? So many schools dont take this into account when buying a projector, and then in 3 years all the lamps become due to change eg. if you buy five it comes as a shock to find you need 5 £250 lamps. Bit like buying a cheap car that does 5 miles per gallon. But yes if the on site warrenty and lamp cost are good, go grab it with both hands. We find Hitachi to be very reliable. Unfotunatly many people are reporting problems with this model (google brings up lots) we have never found DLP projectors to be very reliable. I would recomend moving to another make (none DLP) normal life we find on a serviced projector is around 6 to 7 years. Parts for dell are also a problem, we always struggle when we get them in for repair. A good classroom projector should cost between £400 to £500 and have a lamp cost of around £150 and an onsite warrenty of about 3 years. Marc Projetor Engineer
