  1. Has anyone taken any steps so they can retrieve historical emails from Office 365 if required to do so? The available 3rd party backup solutions look expensive. Has anyone worked out exactly what litigation hold means and can you apply it to all mail boxes? Thanks
  2. We want to take our own photos of students to import to sims. I gather we can print a report which produces a barcode for each student admin number. Is there a way of somehow scanning this barcode so that the admin number becomes the filename of the next photo taken? Thanks
  3. Is it me? I am often asked to give a user access to a particular process in Sims by being told the path in SIMs, today it was Tools. setups, Student Teacher View . So I get out my latest permissions spreadsheet and eventually find the relevant ticks in the boxes, tho here I am offered set up (all panels) or set up STV panel only. I don't have specific knowledge of this part of sims to know what the difference between these might be. I then open up system manager and attempt to find the relevant setting in the Permissions part of system manager to add it to a group for the user. I'm then faced with sections which have some similarity to the permissions spreadsheet and some similarity to the actual usage of sims, but the names are not quite the same and are in quite a different order. And in todays case I can't find it at all. It seems to often happen that I am left trying to line up 3 separate things to work out what to do. Can capita not manage to give things the same name and appear in the same order in Sims, on the spreadsheet and in the actual permissions set up. Is there a magic solution to all this which I have missed, staff responsibilities do not always fit neatly into capitas groups?
  4. We've been asked to find a way for kids to mark each others work , like we used to swap books. It was suggested a folder in their home areas which another kid has access to, but I reckon that multplied up by 30 kids x 10 classes by 5 year groups it gets crazy. Is there a neat way to do it? Moodle workshop came up in a search, anyone used it? Any other suggestions? Thanks
  5. Hi I contacted Hitachi about the same issue ( discovered our boards are 10 years old!) and got this reply From: Geoff Peach [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: 26 September 2012 11:24 Subject: RE: Replacement pen From the date I guess you have a Cambridge board and I expect the pens you have are battery powered? Unfortunately this type of pen is no longer available, but has been replaced by a rechargeable set. These are available from our distributor Sahara Presentation Systems and please use the contact below. ---------------- Accessories ------------------- Accessories are available through our distributor - Sahara Presentations. 6. Our exams office would like to give each student an electronic copy of their exam timetable as well or instead as the printed copy. How does anyone do this? Every method we think of seems to involve doing something, whether copying a file or attaching a file, 200 times, is there a clever automated technique out there? We use Sims, moodle and keep kids safe . Thanks
  7. This block seems to be mangling files as they download. It has been working foe months, but a student got 2 files with a conglomeration of the file names and a PPTX appearing as a docx. We also suspect it is connecting to wrong usernames as some odd things are happening. Has anyone any experience of this happening and/ or a suggested solution? The files on the server are fine, but the student effectively couldn't access them at home. Thanks
  8. We have a problem which I think is with IE8 on Windows 7 Pcs, when using Live@edu email sometimes it takes forever downloading images, whether just loading from the theme or within mails. This makes users say it is not working at all. Doesn't happen everytime, even with same accounts on same Pc. Some users have found odd workarounds like clicking on the back and forwards browser arrows, or deleting a hash from the address line. Really strange , upgrading to IE9 has solved it sometimes, but that can bring other problems. Has anyone else seen this? It's driving us mad. Thanks
  9. I am using the Roombooking system software and want to import the timetable from Sims with their helpfully provided report which interrrogates the rooms fields. However I don't get any details out and I'm told that this is because the new timetable won't take effect until wednesday when the students are back in school. i would really like to have the booking system all ready to go before then. I've tried changing the effective date on the report but to no avail. Does anyone know how to make sims think it is nexrt week? This problem seems to come up in several things these days. Thanks
  10. Thanks for all the suggestions, twas a crashed DC not letting go. And yes I now have details of the moodle admin account. all neatly documented for next time!
  11. We have moodle sitting on a Ubuntu server and using LDAp to authenticate the users to AD. It's worked fine since November then at 3pm todau stopped letting us login with error LDAP-module cannot connect to any servers: Server: 'ldap://servername.domainnameConnection: 'Resource id #61' Bind result: '' We haven't changed anything. Most stuff on the web says it's a bind user issue, but why would it change? How can I check the binding settings when I can't get into Moodle? Is there a way to get into moodle from a back door on ubuntu? I'm a moodle and ubuntu newbie, so all help gtreatly appreciated. Thanks
  12. Has anyone been asked to deal with the Pearson AQA GCSE maths active teach on a VLE? I was given a DVd and asked to put it on Moodle. Fine I said. Then see I have to download VLe components from their website, fine I thought. Then I see there are nearly 60 individual zip files to download around 50-100 mb each. And that's just for middle sets, I've got another DVd for higher sets. I haven't got any further, I can't face downloading, copying to the moodle server and importing into courses 120 times. Please tell me I've misunderstood something? Where's the simple button I've missed that does it straight forwardly?
  13. Tidybackups looks useful, thanks for the advice, however we are asked to keep the .bak files , is it possible to use it to move the files rather than delete? The data manager wants to be able to get data back from up to a year ago by restoring the database to a duplicate sims system on a partition on his PC. And if it could make tea as well that would be really helpful!
  14. Thanks for all the comments, it was seen that we might have to get data back for say a single child up to a year ago if something had got lost somehow. I think the plan was to restore to a secondary system , get the data off and reenter it. And yes the files are huge, ours get to 5 gb a day. Keeping the weeklies for a year has now been seen as acceptable given the amount of date. But you do have to have sims program files and doc storage in sync for this method to be useable. It's not disaster recovery , but individual data files. Do many people do this? I gather ISI is independant school inspection, anyone know if ofsted have any similar timescale?
  15. How do people back up Sims? We have been asked to keep weekly or daily copies of all the databases and matching program and doc storage folders for a year. we have various theories of moving the .bak files to a NAS but it all gets very big very quickly, Do other schools have similar issues and how do you sort it? Thanks
