Yes i have had some in they get clogged with dust on the optical engine, can not be cleaned buy a user it must go to service if it is dust for a deep clean, just to check it can you winfd the lens fully out and in see if you can focus the purple spots they will be at a different point to normal focus if it is dust, you might not get it quite in focus but you will see it start to come in. Try it and let me know. PS if it is dust it is NOT covered to clean this under warrenty. Marc Projector Engineer

You have, as mentioned above an Earth loop where you have 2 earths to the same device, that will often cause interferance, Usually audio noise but can be Image problems you often can fix it with an earth break in the lead to the audio or video but you seem like you have sorted it by removing your second earth. Lets just say i see a lot of them. DLP units in general are not as reliable as LCD. I might use one in a domestic enviroment (occasional use) but never in a work place. Marc Projector Engineer

There are many out there, i am not allowed to advertise on here, i just give free advise, your looking for what is called a deep clean make sure this is what your quoted on, that means coplete dismantle clean optical engine mirrors etc, lcd panels, and all optical surfaces, asseble and test, we would also give a full engineres report any hing that looked like it might give trouble in the next comming months. This would also give light output before and after clean so you can see what improvment it has made. Normal price should be around £70. Marc Projector Engineer

Yes as do Epson worth checking you are getting the Education version when you next buy your projector as often the none EDU versions look exactly the same NEC are problably the same as Epson in that there is also no price differance between the two types. Marc Projector Engineer

There are several projectors that will fit NEC and Epson Included but justa point if the weight of the projector is pulling the mount down it is not installed correctly !!! Marc Projector Engineer

The reason most makers are shortening the through (so they tell us) is to eliminate the shodow effect and to reduce the danger of teachers looking in to the bight (high in UV) light emmited from the lens. The better option is (in my opinoin) to pay for a pole move and use a cheaper (safer) projector i would recomend the new Epson X9 as it comes with 3 year on site cover including lamp. Hi Paul, the way lamps operate is often not understood you wont of course remember but during the WW2 we used search lights very large reflectors using 2 largs rods between which jumped a spark, this was a huge (bear with me) this produced a huge amount of light to light up aircraft in the sky. Ok now our little projector lamps are very like these, the large search lights had motor driven rods so as they burnt down the where driven together to keep the gap constant (impotant bit). Our little lamps cant do this so the gap gets bigger, so what the projector does is turn up the voltage in an attempt to maintain brightness over its life as the rods get eaten away (no one asleep yet?) So this has 3 downsides with larger gap the heat goes up as its a bigger spark and funnily enough it is not the heat that burns the LCD and polerising panals it is the UV light that increases exponentialy the third thing is the current goes up from the power supply with the attempt to maintain the brightness (nearly there). The power and ballest unit the control the lamp become stressed if they work too hard, by over running the lamp as the gap becomes to big so next lamp in will not be as bright due to the powersupply /ballest being stressed the first time (cost to replace ballest depending on unit £250 plus) and the UV may have dimmed by burning the polerising filters (yellowing). So moral of the story DONT DO IT, change your lamp at around 2500 hrs regardless of how bright YOU still think it is and DEFINATLY DONT wait till it doesnt light anymore as this is way too late. A maintained projector should easily last 7 to 8 years. Marc Projector Engineer

Jst for your info, if you are using a ladder they (acording to H& S E) you can only work from a ladder if the job you are doing only needs one hand you must have one hand on the ladder at all times, we use 2 man ladders with 2 opratives its the only safe way with out using a tower. And as said above, if it has been wrongly fited so the lamp cant be removed with out removeing the unit from its mount or part of its mount you have further problems, but what ever you do DO NOT OVER RUN THE LAMP its the biggest killer of projectors. I have already instaled some 50+ inch LCD screens with inbuilt PC nice units and with easy access to hard drive etc... But i think LCD will be gione soon in favour of LED, they have lower power consuption and and for the ones i have seen apear sharper for the same resolution. But i think projectors will be around for some time yet as they are comparativly cheap for the projected size compared to Screens, as for the new board it has up to 4 users at a time at once will be pretty crowded at the board? but interesting. there are several new things that will become more comon like using an Android Arcos with your board remotely from the back of the class, yes the future is an interesting place to be...................... Hi Simon The cost for this clean is £70 ans yes munufacturers DO recomend this clean, i trained with several of the manufacturers to do this for them. It can prolong the life of your projectors by 50% or more. It also makes them more uasable during their life keeping them at optimum brightness. Marc Projector Engineer

All of the recent Epsons THE X range onwards have instant turn off well less that 2 seconds. Any Epson projector of this type taking longer to turn off has a fault and should be reported as all education Epsons have 3 years ON SITE warrenty. Also the lamps are cheaper at around £135 and with claimed 5000 life. A deep clean is where we strip trhe projector to the case clean the optical engine, Mirrors, diffusers, prism, and depending on its make the image device (usually LCD) these are cleaned in a dust free room and then reassembled and tested with out put mesured and compared to when it came in we then write an engineers report on what we found this goes to the customer with the Projector. Yes the Epsons dont have a cool off time either they have a different lamp technology they are instant off too. Yes the "normal" BenQ, Epson, Sanyo do have extended cool off times but NOT Epson. As you say it is good not to have to wait for cool off times. Marc Projector Engineer

Just to put it in to perspective the casio are NOT fit and forget you still need to deep clean them i have done several now same as any projector 1000 hrs and most need a deep clean the image does fade with dust ingress same as any other projector. And as for the epson you can get 5 year warrenty but normal 3 year INCLUDES THE LAMP (for education) the casio are ok but if you stand an Epson next to it with same image projected the Casio looks dim and slighty washed out with softer image (lower res). I personally would go for an Epson but the Casios are ok and they are about the same size as the new Epsons, Nither will overheat if installed corectly. And yes Darren the AB500 is a nice product but its very heavy and only in a couple of schools as yet, we will see how finger touch works out in the long run......................... Hi its not over heating, its to quick for that, its more likely to be a faulty lamp. Has the projector had a new lamp since you installed it? how many hrs has it been used for a school year gives a projector that is on every day about 1000 hrs of use this means it shoulod have a new lamp around every 2 years, so is your lamp old? If none of the above have you ever turned off the projector with out allowing it to cool if not you could another peron have done this? Turning off a projector can wreck the lamp if done at the wall switch with out allowing it to cool properly first, if you are SURE none of the above has occured i ouwld next look at the ballest unit this may be faulty, you now need an engineer this can not be done any other way. First you need to test your remote, do you have another remote or another projector to swap with to test? If not do you have CCTV, if you have CCTV most are IR sesitive so position your self or another in front of a camera and hold the remote poining to the camera get someone to look at the monitor if it is working you will see flashing from the remote IR led. If it is working then it is the projectore it is a very unusual fault, make sure the IR window is not obscured in any way, i have seen PAT testing stickers placed over them!!! If all of that tests ok and no sticker it could be a faulty IR detector that would be my next part to change you would now need an engineer the cure for this fault should cost around £25 at any repair center. Remote control faults on the mainboard are very very rare (in fact i have NEVER seen one). Marc Projector Engineer

Not true the casios are just under 2000 ANSI on the ones i have tested the Epson X8 are 2500 ANSI and a sharper image, yes the casio dont have filters to clean but they still need a deep clean every now and again as they have nothing to stop dust getting in i have seen dust ingress in these on 2 sites Epson come with 5 year on site and yes it does cover lamp and yes it does cover more than one lamp. Most Epsons are auto keystone but this is not a selling point as you usually only do it once. marc Engineer
