  1. If this is a cluster. Drain Evict Upgrade +1 os level Rejoin to cluster Do above on all nodes Upgrade functional level of cluster to upgraded version Then do your next +1 OS upgrade by starting from the top again!
  2. It was summer time when we moved offices! (When the photo was taken)
  3. Sorry for another reply app wouldn’t let me add multiple photos! Office 3…
  4. This is our team 4th office in 10 years! Little annoying as where I’m standing is essentially corridoor to the other admin office (door is near the window on the right on the wall behind me). I was given the option of one of the small offices off this room (in front of my tech on the left) but didn’t want to share it with the data manager. Also prefer being with the rest of the team! There is storage rooms/staff only/repro rooms on the wall behind me. Where we also have an area for imaging etc. We also share the office with someone who manages repro (She sits to the left of where my tech sits) and the operations director who sits near the window. Essentially there is 8 desks but only 6 people in the office. Photo was from when we moved in over a year ago. Only thing I wish we had is more power and data around our desks. We generally have plenty of room to spread out around the area. We were suppose to move again (5th time) before Xmas to the new building but the finance team ended up moving there instead of us.
  5. Don’t get too excited I’m pretty sure they will make you have some stupid license before you can use it.
  6. I bet most of that data isn’t protected by 2fa in the majority of schools who host their data internally on sims. Some might have it on their cloud MIS but I bet the majority don’t. Internally we wanted as much protected as possible against insider threats while balancing ease of use for those staff that move around a lot in school. It was more about access to email and content in conversations were likely to be a higher concern and of more value to insider attacks. As with all the schools that have school as a safe location they have taken a balanced approach and implemented as far as they can go and have struck a balance with their senior leadership to get the mfa project implemented. Once implemented it’s easier to get it tweaked going forward. Sometimes all we can do is outline the risks, provide solutions and implement what is agreed.
  7. We have a tiered approach to staff. 1. You have management responsibilities or might handle sensitive data as your job role you get 2fa. Support staff who work on a pc all day and aren’t moving around between workstations. 2. You are a teacher, Ta or sta with no sensitive responsibilities you get a free pass on site and conditional gets applied to you(this allows for staff moving around a lot or not having their own base). 3. Cleaners and students no 2fa unless they get alerted as a high risk account. Credentials found on a database or a large number of risky sign in attempts. I also suggest any roll out should be done as part of cyber resilience training lead by both IT and someone from senior management who knows what they are talking about this gets more people on board scare the shit out of them by showing the risks, how much an attack costs organisations etc etc. I used the NCSC training video presentation as a base and put our own spin reducing it to 10 slides.
  8. I’m pretty sure when you enable on site as a safe location it asks you to register on site. Only know this as I input a rule in for international addresses for students required 2fa and they started getting the registration process on site!
  9. Our primary has both an IT Suite and a dedicated science lab! The IT Suite was inspired by a Bus style IT suite, fairly narrow AIO pcs and narrow keyboards so the devices could be packed in closely (which you can do at primary). Space gets used as a break out space to do reading etc when not booked for IT based lessons.
  10. Just gotta watch the heat output. When we moved into our building the air on guys configured all the units to turn off at 5. By 9pm we had multiple dead servers. The room is massive can easily fit 15 racks (it has 5) and 5m high ceiling. Only 1/2 rack of servers and a couple of core switches. Got hot pretty quick.
  11. The premium range have active sync I think it’s called and proximity sensors. Which is nice as you can sign into the device using your promeatheon account and link to a mifare card. Boards with proximity you can get away with having tighter energy settings as the boards warm up when you enter the room for instant on. I need to check out our cheaper boards which we got to replace some fault v4 boards. They are far better than the v4! Close to our premium Ap9 boards without the extra premium stuff. (Wasn’t aware they did 3 versions!) We are not a big user of the built in stuff so can’t answer 100% until tomorrow.
  12. You use SIMS ID to authenticate which has 2fa. You also have options like sign in with Microsoft which should reduce the burden on staff. Only annoying part is they have to link the Microsoft account t 1st….
  13. There are reasons why you might want to avoid upgrade path. If your hosts allow it you could make sure you are running gen2 hyperv (if it’s hyperv you are running). You can also make sure it’s configured for safe boot and credential guard, firewall is correctly implemented before migrating.
  14. Personally I would upgrade, apply latest cumulative update then apply 2022 upgrade.
  15. Seems the post I was replying to was deleted and my post now seems to make no sense!
  16. If they can run Firefox that’s the least of your problems…. They can probably install all sorts to bypass filtering. Get your users locked down properly.
  17. I think the difficult bit will be check out after the club. You’ll find a lot that do club registers. (Why restrict yourself to wonde?) We just rolled out SIMS with edulink going live last week to staff. One nice feature is it’s clubs management but it doesn’t do sign out.
  18. No registers here. Fire marshal system each team has responsibility to clear their area. It’s like a big game of herding cattle on to our 2 Astro pitches.
  19. Any reason people are using apple pencils and not a 3rd party one?
  20. FYI installed locally on your network does not equal hosted sims. Hosted SIMS in related to this thread refers Hosted sims or SIMS connected where sims is managed by ESS themselves not to be confused with other parties services that do a similar thing. I would start a new thread to not derail this one too much.
  21. “tireless advocate” = “we’ll sue your ass” If all the MIS products were equal and mature enough I would understand but finding one that fits your organisations needs is very difficult at the moment.
  22. I was shocked how bad the experience was for non iPhone users who very rarely have things like touchID or Face ID. Although to be fair the people that have problems on both platforms have turned off too many notifications.
  23. Tbf after last weeks **** show general performance has been much improved (sessions seem snappier even compared to in the summer) lower latency on mouse and much higher screen refresh today. There were some longer than acceptable login times this morning but it’s been a lot better. After coming from progresso… NextGen just like sims7. Lack of joined up thinking everything is hosted on separate domains http://www.home.sims.co.Uk for example is one of them. Not sure I like it’s mobile/tablet 1st style. Time will tell.
  24. Ours is the newer I believe these are the connected02.sims rds servers. The thing is it’s not just the backend that has problems sometimes it’s the front end authentication for sims ID. This comes under massive pressure due to it serving parents as well trying to get in the parent app.
  25. We’ve only been using sims for a few days but my data lady she used to be on a support desk for sims. I remember her warning me that this type of issue can occur if the user is created in system manager 1st before she had a staff record. It could also be that when creating the user in system manager the staff record was not linked at that point so her user doesn’t know who her staff record is.
