  1. Why do you need to? Have you asked the school techies?
  2. According to the Toshiba website you need a piece of software, usually pre-installed, called Toshiba Assist. the BIOS password is managed from the security tab within that software.
  3. If turning of the proxy allows unfiltered Internet, what's stopping them from connecting a network cable to their laptop and surfing to their heart's content now?
  4. If you told us the name of the software we might be able to offer more specific help
  5. How large is the msi? That is an old error which was fixed by SR1.
  6. You should be able to import it into console directly without the use of an ini file. Have the msi and accompanying files in a folder, on the RMMC go to FILE - IMPORT - PACKAGE - CC3 PACKAGE. Select "Any File" and point it at the msi. It should then import.
  7. If you search the forums there is a long thread which gives the syntax for robocopy to do exactly what you want - and for free.
  8. Why don't you give them local admin access for the first week they have the laptop - enough time to load printers, local network settings etc, and then remove it? They can then used cached network settings at home.

    Virtualisation on Mac

Is this any good for you: IE Mac OS X | Test Websites in Internet Explorer on Mac OSX
  10. I use WSUS for 1400 workstations. The server copes fine. The likelihood of something breaking will be much less if no-one but you have admin rights!
  11. If it's only one workstation, make the IT teachers local administrators. Personally no teacher has admin rights on the domain - local admin rights on their assigned laptop only.
  12. Chefs I know tell me that they keep the best steak for those who ask for blue, those who like well done get the stuff the dog won't eat!

    Imaging a MAC

Look at DeployStudio - you can create an image of each partition and then create a workflow to partition a drive and restore both images.
  14. LanSchool has a guided Internet feature that should do as you describe.
  15. Macs are very sensitive to the time being off - make sure that the times are synced.
  16. Even on RMCC4, I still look for a msi on the disk or within the exe first, and use orca to edit it. I was taught that re-packaging an existing msi caused problems.
  17. Wrap a bandage around your head and go as the Invisible Man?
  18. I created a package using the previous RM blueprint (OO version 3.2.1) I notice today that RM have now produced a blueprint for OO version 3.3.0. Unfortunately it is apparently illegal to share the msi - that's why RM produce the blueprint.
  19. Here IT does not equal ICT. ICT is only one subject, and not actually the biggest user of IT. We have an office in the centre of the school and resopnd to calls as they come in.
  20. Can you not set a scheduled task to run a bat file stopping and starting the services at 6am?
  21. I believe the free version of Bootpicker is rEFIt - we use it here - works well.
  22. In case you still need this I use the following: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.flipchart] "Progid"="Inspire.Flipchart.1.0" [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.flipchart\OpenWithProgids] "Inspire.Flipchart.1.0"=hex(0): "ACTIVstudioPE.Flipchart.3.5"=hex(0):
  23. Does anyone know which switch needs to be used with the msi in order to install serial drivers?
  24. Frog does claim to do this automatically - there is an option in the location where you set username format to automate home drive location. However, I can only put details in for one server. Two or three a week - we are told by having them wander into our room with "I'm new I need to log on" We then need to drop whatever we are doing to add them. Sometimes they have beaten Admin, and they are not yet in SIMS, so we can't just edit the data already in Frog. Not customisable enough, obviously, else we wouldn't be complaining! We do have to intervene, far to often!
  25. Some of our sixth form students who study art and photography have a 2Gb limit - and can easily fill it! Most students have less though.
