Put all the exam users in a distribution group. Use transport rules that prevent that distribution group from sending or receiving e-mails.

Just done this, not sure if it's the best way, but where you bind it to AD, expand "advanced settings". Remove the tick from (and I'm working from memory here) "force local home folder" and put a tick into "use network home". I have, occasionally, had my test user account kick because the folder "Documents" isn't present in the network home area. I'm sure I'll find a fix for that soon!

In that case have a look at the packages that install the shortcut on the desktop for students, and mirror that path in a package to put the required icon on the desktop.

Don't do it - once one shortcut is on the desktop everyone will want\expect their very important piece of software to have a desktop icon, until the desktop is lost. Couldn't you add an Internet shortcut for all users instead?

We were told students need to e-mail work to each other in ICT, so we have set a transport rule so that students can only e-mail another student if they cc in a member of staff. We only apply this rule to those who abuse the system, but it seems to work.

One of my colleagues is dyslexic and it hasn't stood in his way at all. He asks one of us to check his work if he's working at command line - occasionally typing in notepad, checking it and pasting it into command. It's a case of knowing one's problems and working round them.

Does the program have a plist file you can copy to all machines? Thats how I pushed out the iWork key recently.

We've done it - works well.

We merged both networks years ago, as it became harder to identify whether a person required an admin or a curriculum machine - so many users have a foot in both camps - teachers take registers and write reports in SIMS, and need to use curriculum software to plan lessons. Do you give them 2 machines, or insist they log off one machine and onto another to do a different job? File permissions keep data secure.

When we add a new user to AD, we need to go into exchange to set up their mailbox anyway, so setting the max recipients, and a few other tweaks is just part of that job.

We set a global restriction on students that they are not allowed to send to more than 5 recipients - in Exchange Powershell run the command: Assuming of course that your students are in a separate database to staff.

If they break the computer in their bedroom they will be without a computer for a length of time - only they are hurt by that. If they break a computer at school they are effecting not only their education, but the education of every other student who needs to use that machine until I can fix it. Programming can be done in a sandbox - a restricted area which doesn't affect any other area.

Install the printer drivers twice - set one to only print mono, the other to print colour.

I have been given v5 to install. I am not happy allowing students to run scripts, but would be willing to allow the running of bat files from a limited location on the C drive that they cannot write to. Has anyone managed to get this to work? I too feel highly insulted by the idea that we are wrong to impose security on our networks.
