I used the formula I posted in the original example spreadsheet and it worked first time!

YouTube for Schools launched
clareq replied to AngryTechnician's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
I've just been in touch with Bloxx and hope to have some instructions from them this week. -
It looks like it will go straight past our school, and then past the end of my road.

RMAuditor would do this for you.

RM CC3, how does anything work?!
clareq replied to LazyD's topic in Network and Classroom Management
Drive mapping is done on the Computer, not the user. However, being unable to open the user properties is still a problem! Local login isn't allowed, but if a user is set as privileged on a computer their profile is cached, so they can log onto the machine off the domain. Look in the RMDelivery share to find the startmenu - there is an ini file there with all the program sets - increment the number next to the program set you have added the shortcut to in order to deliver it to the workstations. -
Could it be overheating -I've had that description before and had to dig the PC out from under a pile of papers blocking all air flow.

How much historic data does it contain? Our librarian is very good at clearing out the old users and resources.
-
28k resources, 2052 borrowers and 1661 loans, so not dissimilar.

Our eclipse database is 1.4Gb - I think I might have to try and shrink it! SQL will use all the RAM you can throw at it. It's supposed to release it gracefully if needed elsewhere.

When I ran a pub in the East End Charlie Kray was a regular. We also had Stanley Baxter, and Lenny Peters (from Peters and Lee) drink in there.

Frog Sims Extractor - Newest Version
clareq replied to HaleStorm's topic in Virtual Learning Platforms
I was told I had to request it from Frog Support - it wasn't available for download. This was a couple of weeks back, so things might have changed however. -
Bit of a riddle to occupy your brain over lunch
clareq replied to laserblazer's topic in General Chat
If the 2nd is the truth teller, then the 3rd is also telling the truth, by saying the 2nd is telling the truth. But that means that the 2nd's statement is false. I agree with JohnCondon - they are all lying. -
I'm using Chrome, but as you say it shouldn't make a difference: Options (the star in the top right) Mail Settings General - top option is display language, which I have set as English (UK) I think this affects the spell checker, unless it is also a feature of the browser

Moving from CC3 to CC4 in Summer 2011...
clareq replied to BassTech's topic in Network and Classroom Management
Do you use Froglive - I've never managed to get it to work with CC4, although I think there is a new version out now. -
I had this problem, and google eventually showed there is a problem accessing hotmail from behind a proxy - generally, not just schools. The workround is to use https, rather than http. It's worked every time.

My husband runs a karaoke with a song list of 23000. You need cdg or mp3+g to provide both the music and lyrics. There are a number of programs to play them on a laptop - when he started out he used Media Player with a free plugin to deal with the lyrics and dual screen etc. He moved onto a paid for program as it offers more features.

Are you going to CC4.3? The version that runs Server 2008? If so, why not set up a virtual server for SIMS?

RM Virus Protect vs LEA Sophos
clareq replied to maestromasada's topic in Network and Classroom Management
We use Sophos on a CC4 network with no issues. I have a package that loads it during build. -
We use frog: Danum School Technology College

I encountered that today, I got round it by copying the source directory on the Windows disk onto the server and ensuring I had write access to that folder.

You boot from the floppy, which has the network drivers on it. The machine should then re-image over the network. Has the school got a RM Support contract? There are guides on their site for re-builds, as well as many other aspects of CC3.

Sounds like what I did last year. It isn't difficult to do alone, but do lots of reading up on it first. We have a Mac mini server and it copes fine with the 30 imacs and 25 macbooks we have around the place. Ask yourself whether the students really need all those mapped drives - we realised that mapping an apps drive to a mac was a waste of time so ended up just mapping their user area and shared files. Bootcamp does give you a better return on investment, because the machines can be used by other subjects as well. Look at rEFIt to select the boot drive at startup, and at Deploy Studio to image and deploy both partitions - both are free.

You're asking a group of Network Managers and School IT Technicians how to bypass filtering at your school? Full marks for cheek, I suppose. Have you asked why wikipedia is banned (apart from the fact it is unreliable, of course - I could edit an article to say the moon was made of cheese if I wanted to, should that be believed?)
