Could someone, hopefully in very short words, explain to me how to roll out iwork 08 to our network of 55 macs (a mix of imacs and macbooks). As usual for schools, I am booked on the Mac Snow 101 course in November, and our Mac network went live in September! I have a Minimac server and ARD.

We still have an external analogue modem in the finance office to communicate with the bank. We also have a dedicated phone line for it.

We've just put in our first Mac suite. It is used primarily for Media classes, so to get value for money from the kit we've dual booted them, so they run Windows as well. The mac side authenticates against AD, and all work is stored on the Windows servers. We get a lot of comments that the mac suite looks good. I'm not sure what couldn't be done on the PC though.

Thank you for all your suggestions. We are at the moment changing how the machines authenticate to our wireless, so that they authenticate by mac address, which means they can use our managed wireless (which usually authenticates by domain\machinename - fine for our windows boxes, no good for macs) Hopefully they will now pick up an IP more efficiently. However, in doing this I'm logging on as local admin, which means the time synchs anyway. I can't test any of these solutions until the clock skews again.

We have a trolley of Macbooks, dual booting between Windows XP and Mac OSX, and authenticating against AD. I understand the problem with the time needing to be synchronised between the laptop and AD/OD before it will log on, and so have set our forest root as the time source on all machines. Now my problem - the time on the mac side has slipped by about an hour while the machines have been sat in the trolley. As they now can't authenticate, how do they pick up the correct time from the forest root server? On a windows machine I'd set the time in the BIOS and it would hold. Is there a similar function on a Mac?

2000 students on roll Most teaching staff have laptops, and every classroom has an IWB and controlling PC (101 installations) As a split site school we have to double up on a lot of resources, but ICT alone have 5x30 station suites, PE have 4x15 station suites, then there is Media (2 suites, one 30ximacs, one 15xPC), technology (2 suites), Libraries (2), Learning Support Units (2), and I'm sure there are more I've forgotten. We have about 10 curriculum laptop trolleys too...

I have, on the rare occasion that I've phoned a company for tech help in installing their software, been told to "ask the IT guy at your school". The surprise in their voice when I tell them I'm the Senior "IT guy" is worth the phone call!

Can't you just put the files in a password protected zip file? You can still browse the files within the zip, though you can't see thumbnails.

On CC3 you should have RMPackages\applications\Packagename\v1.0.0.0\Shortcuts\shortcut.lnk If they aren't there they will not appear when you try to allocate the shortcut.

It will probably be faster to follow the RM mantra - rebuild the machine

Try making the formula visible, by pressing Ctrl and that button above tab (what is that called, by the way) At least that will help in troubleshooting.

She definitely can't use a pen - her motor skills means she can't hold one. I have found Point N Click which is freeware. I'll put it on her machine and let her try it for a while, see if it meets her needs.

I suggested a trackball, but she is unable to use one. I'll suggest the Microsoft tools, but I'm unsure whether she can maintain a click for long enough to turn it on.

We have a year 7 student who has extremely limited movement, being able to operate her laptop touchpad with a finger of her left hand and click the mouse button. She uses a keypad for text input, much like writing a text message, with software that offers predictive text. This seems to be working successfully. We are having difficulties with image manipulation, such as adding clipart to Word, as she can't drag an image around. She hasn't the dexterity to enable the use of a mouse. Can anyone suggest any software she can use that will enable the mouse to capture an image, and hold onto it until she clicks a second time to set it down? Her mum says she's seen something similar but can't remember what it's called.

About 15 staff laptops, not handed in in July, left to rebuild. Various bits of testing that applications have installed correctly. About 100 staff pen drives to encrypt. Oh and staff came back yesterday, pupils today!

Does this need to be only for a specific set of users? If not, can you not just put a shortcut in the computer All Users startup folder?

You should be able to use 7z or other zip utility to open the exe and extract the msi.

Don't use the Dell utility - it always seems to cause problems.

If you are using the Dell wireless management program use Add and Remove programs to modify the install. There is usually a "pre-logon connection" utility which isn't installed as default. I usually un-install the management program and just leave the drivers, allowing Windows to manage it.

According to the RM website SuccessMaker is not compatible with Vista, so I doubt you will be able to get it to work on Win7
