  1. We are also behind YHGfL, and use OWA for e-mail, and frog VLE for document access.
  2. Rule 1. First read the original post fully before posting irrelevant reply..
  3. We're on CC4 and their msi wouldn't even import into console - the errors I was getting implied a problem with the msi. I ended up using a script to push out the install to each machine.
  4. If you look in IIS and right click on the home page and browse, what is the address that shows in your browser? On the properties dialogue, under documents,is the home page (default content page) correct?
  5. Again in IIS, right click on the web site and go to properties. What TCP port is it on? If it's anything other than 80 add the port to the URL eg http://localhost:8080
  6. In IIS is the website shown as stopped? If so right click and start it. By the way, 127.0.0.1 is the IP address of the local machine, whichever machine you are on.
  7. Unzip the exe using 7z or a similar application - there's an msi in there.
  8. We've used separate GALs to prevent students seeing the staff address book, but allow students to e-mail staff. We have however, set a limit of 5 to the number of recepients, after the first week of using Exchange saw students sending mail to all users in the address book.

    Driver Advice

Try drivergrabber - Driver Grabber - download tag - page 1 - Softpedia. Not failed me yet!
  10. For title 2 - When you run the CD it tries to install a file to the C drive. You will need to create a package to put the files there.
  11. RM use industry standard msi's so no reason at all why they can't be used - check that the in house made msi's have no explicit links to the RM server.
  12. Lets just say that both my husband and I are IT techs...
  13. When I ran a pub in the East End of London we numbered amongst our locals Stanley Baxter, the bloke from Peters and Lee and Charlie Kray and his "friends".
  14. Can I thank you peterp - I installed this little gem on our system on Monday, and the number of swf games stored in user areas has dropped to nil in only 3 days. Teaching and learning now has a chance!
  15. Plenty of information in the knowledge base - search for RM Management Console - the AD front end, and machine building - the RM recommended way of adding workstations to the system. Try and get yourself on an RM course, it will cover all of this.
  16. CC3 or CC4?
  17. We have problems with IE7 and SIMS, particularly the cover list on our Intranet. Not tried it with IE8 yet though.
  18. We run CC3 with Exchange 2007. There is no management of Exchange within the RMMC, we run it as a vanilla exchange box. RM installed it, but we've had to do quite a bit of the configuration - things like preventing students seeing staff in the address book, and limiting the number of recipients a student can send too - we learned that one quickly! Let me know if you require any information.
  19. \when you try to run the program as a student? Do they have read rights on the dat files?
  20. 10 French games and 10 German games - each put a dat file into windows when run for the first time, so students are probably hitting that restriction.
  21. Our two Art Dept file servers are Mona and Lisa Our mail server used to be Pat (after Postman Pat) but now we've upgraded to Exchange it's boring dan-ex-001.
  22. My son is left handed and dyspraxic, and swears by his graphics tablet. Mind you, he had got quite adept at keyboard commands too. He finds it easier if he can keep his hands on the keyboard and not move back and forth.
  23. Local Support Tools is a paid for add-on.
  24. We have a policy that if any student is found using a proxy avoidance website they are immediately whitelisted (only allowed to access a walled garden) and given a detention. We then search for any other access to the site in the previous 48 hours, and whitelist and detain all other students found. This is advertised on the Intranet homepage, so all students know the policy.
  25. We log everything on the helpdesk - if staff phone I just jot down details and enter it on the helpdesk when it's quiet. We produce weekly statistics that are e-mailed to all staff with details of how many calls we've had, how many we've closed and how many we still have open, as well as details of system uptime. I defy any of them to say the system doesn't work - they have the evidence. I am in the office full time - I use remote access software to view error messages and so on, and solve most calls while the staff are on the phone. We have a team of technicians who go out and do the toner replacement type of job. We are a split site school with over 2000 users and 1000+ computers. I can't see how we could do our job otherwise.
