I've done the VMware approved course by the way.

I'm looking for a pearson Vue testing centre in kent that will do the VCP-310 exam. Anybody taken the exam or know of a centre in kent?

We currently have 4 DC's running RM CC3. All of the users Home directories and profiles are on them. We are looking at moving the users home directories to seperate member servers and re-pointing their home folder in active directory. This seems to work with the few that I have tried it with and I can only see a problem in that the managment console no longer allows you to manage the quotas ( A hit I'm prepared to take..Manual quota changes vs eggs in one basket...hmmm!). Has anybody done this before and what where the issues?

This opportunity has passed I'm afraid. Not enough interest. We're going to do it in Bracknell now. Also Vsphere is out now so it might be worth waiting for the new VM courses anyway.

Okay, So I've basicly got my CC3 domain up to scratch i.e. Domain funtional Level upto 2003 native, Powershell installed, Service packs up to date etc. I am about to run the following steps: /PrepareLegacyExchangePermissions /PrepareAD /Prepare Domain Will this have any effect on my current Exchange 2003 environment? I wanted to run these steps but actually install exchage 2007 later (when I finally get the licence). I don't want to do something now which will cause any problems with my current setup but I want to get as much prep done as possible before I install the whole thing in the holidays.

We have 32bit server 2003 but were planning on running 64bit server 2008 as member servers for exchange to run on.

A couple of years ago we were lucky enough to have RM come charge a tidy sum to install Exchange 2003 onto our CC3 network. (Please no rants about 8 gig C:\ and RM's commissioning policy, we're all better than that aren't we?) The server was so underspecced it is now on it's last legs using all possible processing power. Anyway that's the problem now for the solution...... We are in the process of virtualising and want to move over to exchange 2007. We have more than sufficient processing power to have as many servers as we need. Wondering if anyone out there has migrated from Exchange 2003 to 2007 in a CC3 environment before? and how did you do it? Have a CC3 domain with 6 DC's & 1 exchange 2003 member server. Can make as many new servers as required.

Lots of pople offer the training but do not cout as VMWare aproved which you need to do the exam. If you've done the training before with a VCP aproved trainer you can just take your exam. The people delivering this are VMWare approved. The cost may drop even lower than £1500, I just need to get enough people wanting to do it. As I said before I've know costs to be as much as half doing it this way.

It will definatley be under 2k and will probably be held in maidstone. If I get enough interest the price decreases dramatically. Hoping to get it for less than £1500 PP.

We applied to KCN to give us a range extension when we ran out of IP's. They could not extend our range as it had already been used elsewhere but they did give us a brand new /20 range (4024 IP's). Worth asking as all they do is change thier routing tables rather than you having to use NAT. Depends on if they have any spare and if they want to charge you or not. It was a bit of a pain moving the whole network over to a new range but not as bad as I'd first envisaged. Better to have a new range than NAT if they will give one to you and you plan your switchover 1st correctly.

I am an ICT manager at a school in kent & am currently in negitiations with a training company to get some VMWare training going in maidstone. I have been informed that if I can generate enough interest we can get the VMware Infrastructure 3: Install and Configure course (VMWare approved) in a kent location for a substantial discount (i.e less than the collossal £2500 charged elsewhere). I have done a few courses this way and the cost savings can be as much as 50%. If anybody is looking into doing VMware training or thioer VCP in the kent area let me know and we can get this arranged (via KCC) for much cheaper. I am also looking into getting the VCP exam as part of the training, be it during the course or pre-booked at a prometric centre. Please drop me message if you're interested or want any more info. Looking to get this sorted for May/June time.

I have a CC3 network (for admin and curriculum) with 6 DC's, 1 Exchange, 1 Sims server. We are going vanilla with server 2008 (virtualised). We have good scope for current & future servers. We want to do a staged approach i.e do admin first then move the various curriculum roles over. My biggest stumbling block is exchange as I need to leave it referencing the server 2003 / CC3 Active Directory but also need it to see my new domain on server 2008. So the Exchange server remains a member of the CC3 network for now serving the CC3 student Mail but also serves the new admin network at the same time. I plan to set up a trust between the 2 domans but how do I get Exchange (2003) to work with my new AD in server 2008 as well.

Not perticularly with CC3 but if it is a risk in windows it will definatly be a risk in CC3.

You seem to have come to the same conclusion we did then. Just use them as a web browsing device that can download documents. They are PITA.

It should be but I don't want to take any risks with 800 of these floating about the school. Yes our servers are resiliant but it's not just that that is the problem, it's the whole issue of mapping the drives to the RM share (long winded & you will constantly be doing it). It's easier and more secure that they just go on the internet and come in through the extranet for thier documents. That's all our users need so we did not risk anything else. That's just my advice, we are a only a small school with 750 curriculum PC's, 800 minibooks and 200 admin machines. What would we know?
