  1. Good news, after some further hours of lots and lots of playing/testing I have cracked it with a VBS Script! :-) I will post below in case it helps anyone in the future... Set WshShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell") Set fso = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject") Set ParamFile = fso.CreateTextFile("stuonreportparams.xml", true) Dim strParams 'Create start of XML parameters strParams = "End DateDateEnd Date is after" 'Calculate start date strDate = DateAdd("d",-1,Date) strStart = Year(strDate) & "-" & Month(strDate) & "-" & Day(strDate) & "T00:00:00" strParams = strParams & strStart strParams = strParams & "" 'execute command reporter ParamFile.Write(strParams) ParamFile.Close WshShell.Run """C:\Program Files\SIMS\SIMS .net\commandreporter.exe"" /user:j.bloggs /password:123456 /report:""My Intranet Report"" /output:studentreport /paramfile:stuonreportparams.xml"
  2. Hello all! I'm familar with using CommandReporter to run various scheduled reports (used for our staff Intranet), however I now need to run a report than queries information based on the previous days date. Here is what I have so far: The batch file that the scheduled task runs each morning is: "C:\Program Files\SIMS\SIMS .net\CommandReporter.exe" /user:j.bloggs /password:123456 /report:"Title of my report" /PARAMFILE:"E:\Intranet\studentreportparam.xml" /output:"E:\Intranet\" The XML parameter file that this refers to contains: End DateDateEnd Date is after2015-05-13T13:22:38 Now this all works fine and I get a nice CSV report of all students where the end date is after 13th May 2015. Now the tricky bit and the part i'm totally stuck with! ... How in the Date field of the parameter file can I automatically place in the previous days date so that I never have to manally touch the scheduled task process? I've looked at other examples using VBS and Powershell but they seem to fail each time and so I'm turning to all the edugeek genius's out there for assistance! Thank you :-)
  3. We are currently using some ancient software to manage our lettings/facilities bookings and I wondered how other schools may be doing this (freebie options would be best!) but low cost options are also okay. We need to manage bookings in different venues across the site and also produce an easy print out for our Estates Team so they know what is going on each day in which venues. Really appreciate your feedback. Thank you!
  4. Hi everyone! We had a pretty full on week back last week and as per usual all the 200 new year 7 students were scheduled in for 2 full days of internet based testing. This was mainly using the testingforschools website to do their CAT tests plus others. We had a number of issues where web pages did not load correctly, the next/previous buttons did not appear and also a 'Show all Content' security issue which we did not have last year. We also suffered the usual issue of broken pairs of headphones / sound levels being turned down etc. I just wanted to ask others what their experiences were like of these tests - do they always run super smoothly and did you experience any unexpected issues this year round? If you have the time, I would also really appreciate knowing how you prepare for these exams - do you log the students in and plug in their headphones and test it all beforehand for every workstation... Or do you let the students/supervisors of the test do this? What are your practices? Many Thanks!
  5. Okay - thanks @maniac - you've been a great help!! :-)
  6. @maniac - Thanks for this information. So to clarify, if I were to buy a trusted certificate, then all devices (including Windows XP and 7) non-domain machines would just be able to join the network using AD user authentication only? With no-need for our IT Team to manually get involved installing certificated or configuring manual networks? If this is the case, could you explain the process a little more about obtaining a trusted certificate? Many thanks!
  7. Thanks @computer_expert - I cannot possibly do this for hundreds of students bringing in their own devices however. Surely there is another way to allow NPS to work with non-domain machines?
  8. Hi all, Even after reading many articles on similar situations, I am still a little confused... Over the holidays I have configured Network Policy Server role on a Server 2012 R2 machine. Our wireless APs and controller are Ruckus. I want to create 3 SSIDs: 1) is for staff only, authenticated by either Domain Computer or Staff user group in AD - (EAP Protected PEAP) 2) is for students own devices (Ruckus will transfer these devices onto a separate VLAN which will go through a transparent internet proxy) - I need this to be authenticated by a username only (from AD) 3) is for guests ( I dont need to worry about this one for now ) What I am struggling with is the authentication for staff/students. On some devices i.e domain joined machines or Apple iPhones/iPads the devices join fine for either SSID and installs a certificate. However I have some non-domain joined machines that just will not join at all and as soon as I choose either the staff or student SSID from the wireless network list and enter a valid username/password from AD, it just fails to connect. I assume this is an authentication issue. Am I right in thinking that I can use NPS/RADIUS to connect a non-domain computer with just a valid AD Username? Any ideas what might be wrong here? Many thanks!
  9. Hi all, The IT Dept have been asked to develop a series of training sessions to cover Excel (both Beginner and Intermediate), PowerPoint and SIMS Reporting. This will be given to staff who requested the training in their performance reviews. I wondered if there was anybody on EduGeek that may have materials to help us carry this out so we don't have to start from complete scratch? Any advice on what to cover/ worksheets / other materials would be amazing. Many thanks! O
  10. Hello all, Our business manager wants me to investigate a way of registering our students against SIMS but using their existing MiFare ID Cards which runs off Paxton Net2. Does anybody know how this can be done, a Google search has not helped me very much. We just need a touch in/touch out system in our sixth form centre which then lets SIMS know they were in AM/PM. Thank you!
  11. Hello all, Over Christmas we plan to change all staff usernames in AD from firstname.lastname to firstinital.lastname - currently we have a system in place that automatically creates a homefolder on the fileserver which is names as the same as the username and shared as username$ If I change all the staff usernames, the connection with their homefolders will all be lost. Does anyone know of a way / script etc that will assist me in not only bulk changing the usernames but also bulk changing the home folder names and also the share names of those homefolders? Thank you in advance! ---Example User--- OU= Staff > Science Username = j.bloggs Homefolder name = j.bloggs Sharepath = \\fileserver\j.bloggs$ Homefolder physical location = fileserver\d$\Users\Staff\Science\j.bloggs --------------------------
  12. Hi all, I am currently in the process of getting a few quotes for around 40 Avigilon CCTV Cameras for both external and internal areas. We are being quoted to have all 5mp cameras externally (mainly dome cameras) and 2,3 and 5mp cameras internally. The quotes are all quite high (by the time dedicated switches/cabling and NVRs have been added on) I just wanted to know if anyone on here had got Avigilon or had looked at it previously, and your thoughts on it? Or if anyone has a better suggestion of hardware/software to look at then I would definitely take this on board. Many thanks!
  13. Hi all, Okay so not strictly "hardware", but being in IT and all, naturally my business manager has asked me to look into this product: GBC Europe - Print Finishing Solutions - Roll laminating - AutoUltima Roll Laminator Its a fully automatic lamination machine costing around £2,500. I can totally see the benefits to our reprographics department as an awful lot of time is spent during their day stuck at the manual laminator machines. What I wanted to ask is if anyone had experience of one of these machines or had one at their school? If so what's the verdict? is it worth the money and does it increase productivity plus does it get jammed / go wrong often. A long shot asking on here, but you never know! Thank you.
  14. Thanks @Sunstone / Paul, that information is great. We are literally going to start again with new internal / external cameras so is a server the best way to record the footage of get networked DVRs? The feeds will need to be viewed constantly on screens in our Site Management Office and Facilities Management Office plus us in Network Management if we need to look up any incidents. I think a seperate network will be a must and POE is an absolute yes... can you recommend a good model of camera? And it sounds like you have a lot of knowledge and perhaps carry out installations yourself so message me your details if you want. Thank you.
  15. @m25man - Thank you very much for your extensive answer. Its a real help and strengthens my case for perhaps a separate network purely for CCTV and in the short future IP Telephones too.
