I think it's more possible now than it's ever been, especially if you are already using and embracing google in your school it would be a fairly smooth migration.

I mean - if you're gonna ban chinese stuff then your basically banning everything you now run and own including the Pcs, mobile devices, cisco switches, etc etc. Especially in the CCTV area - name one top 5 tier camera that isn't made in china. I want to move away from my Hikvision DVR, not because they're chinese but because the software interface is rubbish and unreliable.

Veeeam here. It's not expensive (in the grand scheme of things) , does everything we need, easily replicates backups to various different storage devices in various different places and can upload copies to the cloud too. I dont really knnow what else you could want (other than the cloud storage being cheaper but that's not veeams fault that's just cloud in general)

That's very interesting! Is that from last year? Boiler 8 years old same as the house. House is a detatched coachhouse garages on ground floor and house on 1st floor and attic above. I get the same issue as someone with a 3/4 bed detached house, except probably a bit worse as my house is smaller but the rooms are bigger and each room has 2 outside walls and the attic above so plenty of heat loss compared to someone in a proper flat with someone below them someone by the side of them and someone above them? I've got improvemeents to make in attic insualtion for sure.

Do you have another technician below you? I would be expecting a senior tech to be doing some basic line management of the tech, and gettting much more involved in the network, servers, infrastructure, cyber security, some future planning and strategy with the network manager, etc May also be worth seing if the manager wants you to start to specialise in something - servers, or networks as specialisation is a good way forward into the wider world, not many companies apart from schools actually want a jack of all trades sadly. (some do, not many).

YEs same problem here was hoping to run authenticator on the staff chromebooks but then realised they'd have to use authenticator to log into their own chromebook outside of school so that one's not gonna work so well. Will investigate yubikeys now - thanks for the heads up.

Very interesting as eyeing up Bromcom and Arbor here. This isn't helping Arbors case - if we move we want the system to already be working perfectly - moving to a system that is "aaah yeah um we're working on it" is just not good enough. You wouldnt buy a new car with half the doors and wheels missing and accept "yeh working on it mate" as a response would you? With software it seems all too common. Question for the OP @DavidYoung did you just change systems or did you go out and get demos, visit other schools etc first?

We use Delprof2 /I /d:360 /ed:administrator Here seems to work ok - on pcs that are really struggling for space we reduce d: as low as 60 if needed.

We've seen this very occsionally on random pcs and random users. Imossibl to replicate and as you say a reboot always cures it. It doesnt even happen once per day across 500 pcs - maybe once or twice a week? I don't believe it is a 21H2 issue as it's been doing that for a couple of years. Never got to the bottom of it, just put it down to yet another "windows 10 thing"

I have to admit the first thing I thought of was when I was in school and we used to use our casio watches to fiddle with all of the Tvs around the school (including mid lesson). It took the staff quite some time to cotton on to what was going on and then those watches were banned (instant detention etc).

It seems to be a windows 10 thing - yes the touch functionality only works on monitor 1 so you have to physically move monitor one to the position on the desk that the teacher prefers (left monitor or right monitor) and then use windows display properties to drag the screens around virtually so that the extended display makes sense with the mouse (i.e drag the cursor from left to right screen is actually monitor 2 left and monitor 1 right). It's a potch. Things were so much more reliable in the old days with just a VGA splitter that worked for 10 years solid.

We don't allow printing from the chromebooks, so yes. Teachers still print a lot from their classroom teacher PCs though - infact some of them seem to try and make up for it by printing as much as they can when they are in front of a PC.

We're now 80% Chrome/ChromeOS devices here including 1:1 for staff and pupils.

Subscribing - our lighting is some 30 years old really need to get up to date with LED and some kind of computer controller but hey no money :/

Yeh if you already got Veeam then using Cloud Connect is super easy and just works. I got mine from Millgate as they already sort our Veeam licences so it was easy. I under purchased storage so going to up that this year I think.
