In Chrome > Settings > Users and Browsers > URL Blocking You can ban * which bans all websites. You can then unban the websites you need them to access e.g. drive.gooogle.com etc. You can also explicitly unban parts of an already banned website, or ban parts of al already unbanned website - e.g. we needed all google education facilities to work including hyperlinks etc so we: Banned * Unbanned google.com Banned google.com/search So now then can do google.com things including click hyperlinks in classroom etc - but not search. You can build up layers of banning and unbanning to get the sites you need working. E.g.

Yes - when they leave year 11 or year 13 they hand the chromebooks back in in their last week. Me and my techie keep tight spreadsheets of who's got what. SLT are very involved and understand the financial value of each Chromebook, and help out with adding a bit more gravitas during the chasing up. Stragglers have Chromebook disabled, parents text/emailed and then eventually phone call from SLT. In extreme cases (only a handful over the years) SLT or I visit the doorstep.

This may or may not be helpful but - I've always been uneasy about parental contribution myself, we're not a private school - we don't charge parents 5 grand a year for the priveledge, we dont make pupils pay for books or pencils or paper or anything else that we "force" the pupils to need so why would you force them to use 1:1 devices and then charge them? With 25% FSM we were not keen on going down the parental payment route so funded 1:1 chromebooks ourselves. Couldn't really afford it at the time - so started by buying one year group per year for each year 7 intake. Got 7, 8 9 done then Covid accelerated the process and now totally 1:1. It's the way to go - teachers can teach and pupils can learn in school out of school instantly with one username and password. At £150 - £200 for Lenovo 100e Gen 3 you can have a school full without spending ridiculous money. Just got to tighten up on some of the other random junk that schools spunk thousands a year up the wall on. Start with External cover, Photocopying and Garbage software - can probably save enough to pay for a year groups worth of chromebooks right there. We're so clear about the benefits and our strategy now were even putting money aside into an LEA sustainability fund each year for each trenche of Chromebooks so in year 5 we'll already have enough money to replace the chromebooks with new ones. My 2p anyway!

This seems more of a lack of trust / professionalism issue than a technical issue. All staff should be instructed not to use their personal phone for any work related task, especially taking photos, that's a "safeguarding" given in every school, But to issue staff devices for them to use "professionally" and then say "by the way we don't rust you to be professional so please don't risk using them" is a bit extreme. You either trust your staff, particularly teachers as professionals, or you don't. If you don't, then you've got much bigger issues at hand in your school than how they use their work phones.

Have you given them different IP addresses to the old copiers? Most LEAS would have per IP SMTP relay so your new copiers with new IPs will not be able to send without the LEA adding the new IPs to their system?

Is this an IT Manager role or a Deputy Head of IT role as the two are far from the same job and far from the same pay grade, usually.

Are they having the red battery led issue? IF not sometimes they can be brought back to life with a hard reset (google chromebook resets for various options) Every single manufacturer has issues - we've had Lenovo Acer HP Dell all of them have things that go wrong. You could move to dell and have exactly the same issues. Don't expect chromebooks to be ultra robust or ultra reliable - they are designed as throw away devices to be junked after 3 years. We're running them for 5 years minimum.

It does sound like you have a single channel controller, if so you would only be able to plug one SAN in.

What model card is in the server?

There were single controllers and dual controllers available - are you sure you haven't got single controller cards in the server as you'll only be able to plug in one san if I recall and any expansion has to be done through MD1200 "dumb" disk trays daisy chained to the MD3600. This is from long ago memory as I dumped SANs 10 years ago. I think I've still got some Dell fibre SAN cards lying around.

As soon as I sa you ordered from USA I shook my head and said a little prayer for your missing GPU. If your gonna order from amazon make sure it's a) prime and b) coming from amazon's UK warehouse. Anything else is just going to increase the risk. Ordering from the US is especially risky.

It's unlikely you will be able to shove the disks in and hey presto - especially if it's a different make/model nas. It's risky as if the new NAS tries to be clever and create/adopt the raid array you could end up with no data at all! Best option is to restore the data from a backup onto the new NAS with new HDDs fitted.

Done mine last night and it's gone smoothly with just running the upgrade on the server. I was told the client update was not necessary for this patch and I was coming from V19 My client runs directly off the papercut server so next time users log on they get the new client anyways (assuming there is a new client).

Is managing even just one onsite server really such a big problem? I literally hardly ever do anything with my servers. HyperV, Veeam, it all just does it's own thing. Other than the odd windows update on the host. If i had just one Server with just DHCP on it I probably wouldn't need to touch it for 6 months at a time?!! Reading through serverless schools threads sometimes feels like "jumping through many hoops to be serverless just for the sake of it"

Sounds like a job for one of your local small IT repair shops - theres quite a few around here in various towns - 1 man band with a small shop type of place? You may have trouble finding someone willing to do the job first and then get paid later - most will want payment up front.
