Fair point - and true about being cheap enough to load up on spares. I had about 10% of the fleet die in 3 years so that was the end of that as I don't want to be spending all day swapping switches out no matter how cheap they are. Sadly now the LEA have forcibly installed Aruba switches they are no more reliable than the Unifi. *thinks of the old HP Procurve switches which had only one die in 15 years and sobs into his cuppa coffee*

They didn't really corner the market as such due to being ourstanding or anything - they were pretty much the only third party transfer tool around 10 years ago. Fairly cheep, fairly cheerful, averagely reliable, with average features, poor warranty, and reasonably poor support. I run one at home, I wouldnt run them in school. They are not enterprise switches, so if looking to replace a 5412ZL or some other high end etc then theres no comparison.

Well - I am not an electrician but I am sure (not having a copy handy) there are caveats in he regs in the appendix regarding derating for continuous loads - this is why most EV car chargers are actually derated, my Tesla charger with thick cable and a 13 amp plug only ever pulls 10 amps continuous because if you pull 13 amps all day and all night in warm weather with no airflow, you'll likely end up with a melty plug. Either way - when talking about widowmaker if you are talking about wiring up a single appliance to two 13 amp plugs in parallel then yes that is incredibly dangerous as if someone unplugs one plug, not both, then that plug that is in their hand is fully live = zip zap time.

Firstly - you'd want to make sure all of this is IP44 rated at the least so it's splashproof - electrocutions on a rainy day are no fun for anyone! Secondly, when doing the maths don't forget to de-rate for the possibility of things being left on - your 13 amp plug that can theoretically take 3000 watts from a kettle for 2 minutes can only actually take -20% continuous so 10.4 amps or 2300 watts. Thirdly - it's risky taking this on yourself - if anything goes wrong you are the person that will be blamed, er I mean accountable and if you are not a qualified electrician then it won't go well for you in court. My advice would be tell them you are willing to advise to the best of your knowledge but they need to hire an electrician to do this outdoor high power cabling safely.

Exactly! That's why you shouldnt be enabling cloud access on devices that you may not posibly trust. I don't get it - whats the point of vlanning things out or physically seperating networks if your just gonna tick the enable cloud box anyway and lose all semblance of security??

Well the actual risk is far more than if they didn't have cloud access to anything, that's for sure!

If your using Hikconnect then that is the risk as that is beyond your control (and in Hik's control...)

What' your budget? If it's under £5000 then your limited to the chinese lasers (and the manufacturers that resell chinese lasers like Boss Laser etc). If it's over £5000 then look at Universal, Trotec, Epilog for more professional laser engraving/cutting. I personally am a Universal fan, I have a VLS3.5 at home - bombproof hardware and good driver software (you could literally engrave by opening notepad typing something in and clicking file>print). Good luck finding anything that works on chromebooks.

I think you need to evaluate the CPU usage on our current servers to make a more informed decision. Two things to consider: 1 Do you actually need all that CPU? My current servers show low CPU usage across the host on average, so when I refresh - do I need to spend extra on 4x the number of cores compared to what I have now? Probably not. 2 What software d you run on the VMs? Some software prefers a low number of fast as possible 3.8ghz cores (e.g. SIMS), other software scales really well and would be happy to use 24 x 2ghz cores.

Yes we have been told not to install any new camera systems at all (hikvision were not named) until the LA recieve/create some guidance. They have not banned existing kit, or told us to remove existing cameras as that is unfeasible given school budgets. It's pretty ironic as up until last week the LA have actually been having contractors install hikvision systems and a new school that's on the way is literally being cabled up for all hikvision right now. Surely as long as it is non cloud enabled and behind all your usual LA firewalls - it is technically safe?? Meanwile the LEA are fine with installing Chinese Servers Chinese PCs Chinese Chromebooks Chinese phones and tablets Chinese network switches Chinese WAPs Chinese firewalls Chinese routers etc etc etc Either way, it's a knee jerk political reaction based on purely politics not technical issues which is not how LAs should be behaving IMHO.

It totally depends on the profile of the tyre and the weight of the car. The lower the profile the more PSI needed and the heavier the car the more PSI needed. Hence 44PSi in the rears of my Model S as that's got 35 profile!! It's bizarre coming from my old nissans with baloon tyres that I put 32PSI into

Fair point but I believe they've had almost a years notice. It's more to do with them being so totally risk adverse to such an extent that the core primary aim of the (school) business is not achieved?
