Yeh check an actual school bill first. I was interested to learn that our off peak is not that much cheaper than our on peak, so much so that i wouldnt even entertain piddling around trying to time-shift usage.

Not the numbers on that particular scenario but I did run the numbers on how much it would actually save if I spent 6 hours a day going round unplugging things and plugging them in every day and it was a miniscule amount compared to the school’s overall usage (and that wasn't including my wage either) The site team asked about IT trying to use less power so I reminded them that each classroom that they have not yet upgraded the lights to LEDs in, actually uses more power than an IT suite being left on all day, and the electric heating in the portacabins uses more power than all the lights in the school and IT suites put together and once they get all that sorted then we will come back to IT and see if we can squeeze a bit more savings. (they have not come back yet....) [emoji6]

No not rented. It is a weird shape house though - only 1 bedroom but all rooms are large and it's detached so all 4 outside walls are "in my rooms", and a large roof area/large attic, garages underneath which are not heated so no heat transfer from downstairs to upstairs. I do have some of the attic unsualtion squished down to make room for storage which appears to be costing me now. It was built 8 years ago but it was built by charles church so probably wasn't built/insulated properly.

Barely anything probably. It's not worth the technical risk of things not coming back on or booting back up properly.

Well worked out that in the last month i've spend £140 on gas for my 1 bed flat with the thermostat set to 19. Not good at all. I think I'll have to set it to 18 and wear more jumpers.

Got an Epson EB-G7800 8000 lumen in the hall and it's fantastic hasn't put a foot wrong in 5 years. Only 4:3 and of course would want widescreen nowadays. Got a newer Epson L520U 5000 lumen "laser display" in the Gym and am not as impressed - that is not as bright as the hall one. My advice is don't skimp - theres nothing sadder than seing another orgnaisation tagging you on twittter about a nice event in the hall and your display being totally dark and unviewable - for everyone else in the world to see that you skimped and fitted the £500 projector.

Well I've been asked to look at gamemaker here so signed up for a free account and trying to get it working on the head of It's PC but so far no bueno, managed to install it ok but when you run it it errors when trying to download libraries. Anyone seen that?

Created a few works facebook accounts with sch email addresses to use to manage the facebook page. You really should not be using personal accounts to manage a school facebook page.

We looked around and visited a couple of schools and decided that as these type of devices only really get replaced once every 10 years, so is it really wise to buy the cheapest we can find? Decided not to not skimp on buying them in the first place. Ended up going Smart GX 86" on our initial trial of 6 boards. Really good and the sound is really good too so no speakers or soundbars needed. I would have a think about short term vosts vs long term costs as buying the cheapest you can get may end up costing you more in the long term. We made the same mistake with bog standard TVs in meeting rooms etc too and have to say that the cheapest noname ones be bought are all dead and we now have sony/samsung. Buy cheap buy twice? The saying does sometimes hold up!!!

Used a company here, I barely have enough time to keep the website up to date let alone spend time designing and building it too. Ideally you would hire a dedicated website & social media person and they can crack on with it themselves, the money saved by not using a company and the money gained by doing a stellar job at just this one role, should offset their wage fairly significantly!

Yes same process here with same software. The only way really you can modernise the workflow here is if you get rid of FMS which is about 20 years out of date and move to one of the new fangled cloud super duper finance systems. Really it should be along the lines of: add project into system and select eligible suppliers" system sends off for 3 quotes Select winner. order auto generated to winner Documents signed and scanned if neccasary. Order processed and sent to winner. Mark order as delivered. Order payed. I am sure any of the modern financey/accounting systems can do things as easy as that! (just not FMS)

If they're connected to your network via wireles or ethernet, then yes.

I use 3 condenser mics across the front of the stage - they're not permanently mounted so are on stands. They don't actually ever use the stage properly though they ususally go in front of the stage which means the choir is level with my speakers which gives extra feedback and means I can't turn the mics up quite as much. Not much I can do about that thouth! I generally sitt there in the concert and battle with each mic maximum volume vs feedback starting - like juggling some tomatoes that have been through a blender! Also use a vocal mic for soloists a DI box so they can plug a guitar or bass directly in and 2 stage wedge monitors so the people perfroming can hear the bakground tracks etc. It works decently but I wish i was a sound professional with years of experience in live sound rather than a poor overworked techie who's been lumped with it :/

Hi I don't have exact details a third party "laser guy" did it but it was replacing the main boards in the laser itself, and we had to have new screens in the laser as the old screens wouldnt work with the new boards, so new board, new screen and then new driver to go with it wich worked nice on win 10 - and we moved to Lightburn too at the same time. (we also had him change a power supply in one of them and both laser tubes). I mean there's like totally differnt boards in each laser so I couldnt comment on if it would work for you guys as you've probably all got different makes and models of laser?

Yeh that's why we went with new motherboards as it will work from now on rather than constantly bodging things on the old motherboards.

Sounds like this just needs to be dealt with through SLT-down instruction. Anyone who doesnt turn up / escort their students gets dragged in for a "awkward converstion" If you've got something like Impero or netsupport notify you can create scheduled messages on that.

Looking at this again - anyone signed up to gamemaker recently? They seem to be forcing you to sign up to an opera browser account which I do not like the look of?

Oops - I went through Ricoh my MFD supplier and they did a lot of the donkey work.
