It's unlikely you can get that to work - we had to have 2 of our lasers have upgraded motherboards (and displays) so they would work on windows 10. All working now though!

Basically the words before/after your name don't really mean anything. What really means something is the pay grade your on and how much scope for leadership and people managerment that pay grade allows. I've seen technician titled people on manager money, manager titled people on technician money and everything inbetween. IT Manager Here though the pay grade I'm stuck on is rapidly approaching technician level given the massive payrises lower grades have recieved over the last 15 years.

Ah yes we've done the same URL blocking method for our pupils that need extra safeguarding. Maintainting the list is a pain but it is working.

Hi yes there is a way to cleanly do it as we have it set up here so they can only "see" the apps in play store and web store that we deem - they can't install other random apps. I cant remember where the setting is I'll have a look for you. In the mean time you can set your apps up on your organisational units by going Devices > Chrome > Apps and Extentions > Users and Browsers and adding the apps you want them to access in the right OU for them. You can aforce install which makes the app install for every user in that OU or you can do allow install which makes it show up in the play store on each device and they can click and install if they want. (i use that mostly as forcing app installs uses a lot of HDD space on each chromebook).

Doesnt suprise me At BETT you had to queue to get a demo of Bromcom but there were no queues at the RM stand. My quick 5 minute chat about it informed me that it was a few years out of date and didn't do everything a school would need an MIS to do nowadays. May as well stay on SIMS if you want to run an archaic MIS.

I was keeping a 380z for just this kind of thing but it got blooming thrown out in a big bunch of room refurbs they did a while back. Absoloutly gutted.

FYI it's up to the school what finance software it uses - historically schools have often just used what the LEA supplied as LEAS wanted to streamline their own data in/out workoad by having the same finance software in every school, but actually - times have changed and your school is now being forced to pay thousands (or tens of thousands) extra just so the LEA can make their own jobs easier - I would suggest you move to whatrever MIS and Finance software is modern and fit for purpose for the school and the LEA can just deal with the import/exports you send them. They won't like it! But then most LEAs are suffering with corporate metathesiophobia so I'm past caring whether they "like it" or not.....

Further to my previous somnewhat frustrated post DT dept now got used to using Onshape and that just works easy in a browser no issues. I guess if you only do the 3d cad and none of the other PCB etc stuff in Fusion it's a much easier option to run across the school!

LEA kicked up a big fuss a while back and banned remote access a while back and blocked the ports. Fine I said, I won't work from home for free. No skin off my nose, I said! If a server craps itself during a windows update - it'll wait till Monday. *shrug*

You could run a VB file on logoff to remove the printers I think I've got one here somewhere I used a while back.

Aaah it's because French Gov has been pumping money into internal cloud companies like it's going out of fashion (1.8 billion last year). Now it makes sense. Nothing to do with GDPR, alll about removing entry barriers for french cloud companies.

There isn't really an alternative. The alternative is to go vanilla an if you don't have the time or expertise in house to perform the migration, then pay a third party company to smooth over the migration process. One up and runnning vanilla doesnt really take much effort to keep running. Ps if I was going vanilla again I think an excellent add on would be one of the software packages that takes data from MIS and creates AD / Office365 / Google accounts straight from the MIS as this will save your staff a lot of time over the coming years and is well worth a few grand a year.

Just got 6 x Smart MX 86 here to try. The BENQ ones look good too. I would strongly reccomend against removing classroom teacher PCs as they just work 100% reliabily hour after hour day after day. Enter the room, log on to the PC, everythings already conected, 60 seconds later get teaching and learning. Every other school I know locally that has gone the laptop route has regretted it (and 2 that I know are now intending to roll out a teacher PC to every clasroom again!)

Had this with another school in my area and after a lot of toubleshooting and investigation I pinned it down to the actual permissions of the their home drive folders on their server. The funny thing is I never actually pinned it down to an actual permission entry - all I i know is when I manually created a new home dirve folder, set all the permissions conrrectly and file sharing etc - adobe worked fine as soon as I moved that users home drive to the new folder path. A strange one as I initially discounted home folder permissions as on a quick look, they looked fine, but there was somthing in there that adobe did not like at all. So yes we had to rebuld the entire home drive folder for the entire school, then change all the home folder entries in AD to the new folder, then robocopy transfer all the old data making darmn sure to inherit permissions off the new folder structure rather than transferrring permissions from the old folder structure! Worked. School now teaching adobe.

This is insane that you have to use powershell and spreadsheets when this should just be a damn tick box in the admin centre. THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT OF THE ADMIN CENTRE isn't it?? To admin??!?!?

It's a funnny one. Equipment that has been powered 24/7 for over a decade can sometimes not like being unplugged. Its likely they're toast - they must be what 15 years old now?

Yes at home. No at school. Onhe thing I have noticed - Intel are more energy efficient which doesnt matter at home so much but with 500 in school - could make a difference?
