The inability to use play store apps is a real big negative as once you deploy proper chrombooks and the departments start using many play store apps and frankly, loving them - it's difficult to go back to a flex device with nothing on it apart from google slides etc. If your startting from scratch though and are not already using 50 different apps it could be a goer though as it does just allow you to browse, and use google classrom etc.

Ah right sorry - in that case yes like you say it must be a firewall port needs opening. May be worth giving the printers static IP addresses to make it easier.

It's not going to be able to cross networks unless you've got some routing set up? Would it not be better to join them to the bambu cloud and the you'd be able to monitor the print jobs on any web browser?

There are two different issues here - one is SIMS suppoort for the software and database itself on your server which if SCOMIS are not supporitng any more I guess ESS will be supporting instead. The other is physical server support for whatever hardware the SIMS Database is installed on - this is generally up to you to support or arrange hardware support with a third party, I gather this was provided by SCOMIS prebviously and there's no reason why they can't support the hardware like they did before? They are not allowed by ESS to support the SIMS software any more but they can still support the physical hardware right?

On A1 here - the app is avaialble automatically i havent had to do anything in the admin console but it does not show in the frequently used app tiles you have to go in to "more apps" and manually click it or pin it.

you got any 3d printers in school and a DT teacher that can do cad? make up a mount probably in 2 parts and bolt it to the stand with those auto-drilling metal screws you can get?

So you are going to use starlink as your main internet connection? That's really unusual in a school. Gennerally fibre to the cabinet would perfrorm singificantly better in most areas of the country - I guess if your in the middle of no where that may not be the case?

If you click on the cog in the top right - they've recently moved signatures and automatic replies from the general settings area into the account area. Just double check if that is there for you. If not - we are using the same licence as you so I can't see it being a licenceing issue?

Yeh still using MDT here too it just works so darn good you can build 100 pcs a day for like 5 years straight, no issues. I said I'd upgrade and upskill myself when something better comes along............still waiting as none of the newer stuff I've seen so far is better, infact, it's not even as good or reliable.

Some people on here confuse enforcing your own work life balance in a healthy way with somehow not being hard working or not professional. I used to do all of the above back in the day (apart from the heart attack!) - but after many kerfuffles over when I could take the time back and just constant issues around the whole lieu thing - the kerfuffles have ended as I've put my foot down. My school has deemed my hours are 37 a week I am not allowed to be paid to be on call and overtime is not allowed. And woe betide me if i deviate from that. Therefore I don't deviate from it. If something is that important that the school won't function without it they then can either pay me to be on call or pay me overtime. If they refuse to pay overtime or on call then it clearly isnt an important issue after all. And this is the key - when you put it like that to them all of a sudden nah we don't want to pay you an extra 100 quid don't worry about it - it wasn't that important to them after all. I think many of us in here need a good shake up - if something breaks somewhere else in the school they'll happily pay £10k to get some contractors in for a week but then they refuse £100 or £200 worth of overtime to get an IT issue fixed on a sunday and instead rely on trying to guilt us into working for free just "because professional". Rubbish. Stand up for yourselves, be healthy, enforce a good work life balance, as no one else will!!!

You can't really go any further without the buy in from head/slt. It is such an important issue that here, it would be my head sending that out to staff as an instruction rather than from me as a polite request from IT. If you can't get that - just get an email from head/slt instructing you "no" or "it's fine" etc and that instruction will cover you in case of a GDPR issue/etc

Given that you would have no control over the data in dropbox or what country it is stored in, it is a NO here. Seems to me to be simply a GDPR/Safeguarding issue - risk of data loss of confidential data.
