Any good system is going to get false positives, I'd be dubious about any that didn't, or only had a minimal amount - certainly out of the box... Regardless of whether you've got something installed but not used, or nothing for safeguarding at all, Ofsted wouldn't let you get away with it now with KCSIE and Prevent, but I'd imagine less so if they're just not being looked at... but there are ways to make it easier - tweaking the regular false positives, and liaising with the company/developers... and spreading the load / responsibility of reviewing the data etc... I'll talk more when I call you back

@Jam_lane and @Andycat - neither of you are too far from me, you're welcome to pop in and have a look, though there's not a great deal to see - happy to talk more on the phone?

We've used it for years for the safeguarding (as well as a techie tool)... From what I've learned, everywhere has slightly different ways of dealing with and processing the information, but I'd be more than happy to help if I can... We've been a reference site for them for years...

There's an issue with the previous download - correct version here: http://anme.uk/SMART-Notebook-11-4

I don't recall anything about admission year being advised against - that's the most logical way of organising them... IIRC, the advice was not to include any gender or full name, so we've always done them as 16jbloggs for that reason...

They took it off as it's completely unsupported now... http://anme.uk/SMART-Notebook-11-4

Twitter/Facebook Social Media Posts - how do you send them out

Ditto... We've not actually had that happen yet, but that's what we've arranged to do...- 18 replies

Staff access to tumblr
RichCowell replied to jslate1980's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Nope, absolutely not... I'd be tempted to demonstrate on a non-school device if they're awkward about it, see how embarrassed they are when you show them what they're asking to have access to... They made changes a while ago to make it more difficult to stumble across inappropriate content - not being able to search for it etc. but that didn't seem to stop anyone... -
Twitter/Facebook Social Media Posts - how do you send them out

Nothing, there's not much you can do about that really... it's not an issue that's been flagged up with us so far...- 18 replies

Twitter/Facebook Social Media Posts - how do you send them out
RichCowell replied to Obee1's topic in How do you do....it?
We've got 911 students, with 895 followers on the main school Twitter, and 2136 on Facebook, but we have various different additional ones for subject-specific stuff... The key thing for us was having a team of staff with access, and the right staff, from different areas, so they can engage more... and we make sure at least one person on every trip has access so they can post content while they're away (obviously with permissions from all parents etc.) - that had a huge impact on engagement for us... The other important thing for us has been having staff from the Pastoral team as we've left messaging enabled, and parents often use it to contact us, so they're able to reply quickly that way... The staff on there are editors, and I'm the only Admin, so maintain control to remove them easily when they leave etc. All content from Facebook is Tweeted, and all Tweets are posted to Facebook too, so I've given the office staff access to Tweet, so we don't need to give them access to Facebook (not all are on it)... Works really well for us...- 18 replies

We were tied in with the LEA originally, then saved that much when we switched. They were a heck of a lot cheaper anyway, then they claim back that support element from Capita and give you that back too... They were all ex LEA SIMS Support I believe too...

School ICT Services for us - we've saved £5,500 p.a. on SIMS Support, and have an infinitely better service for it too! Can't recommend them highly enough. They work nationally too. School ICT Services - MIS and SIMS Support for Schools

SMART Ink / Notebook 11.4 - Office 365 display issue
RichCowell replied to Cache's topic in Educational Software
It'll drop to the basic mode after 12 months if you don't renew the licence... SMART Ink is available for free as a standalone product though, so you should be able to install that regardless of which version of SMART Notebook / SLS you're using... https://www.smarttech.com/Support/Browse+Support/Product+Index/Software+Products/SMART+Ink The added bundled features of SMART Learning Suite 17 are pretty good if you use them... but the very basic features will continue to be available without buying the license, but all users will still need an account with SMART, and will be required to log in before using it the same as if it was licensed... there is also a watermark in the bottom right corner of the SMART files... (The water mark is there if you've licensed it but use it without a SMART Board too though). -

Projector Cleaning firm recommendations?
RichCowell replied to LeMarchand's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
We use Active AV as they're only 15 minutes down the road, but they have contracts with some big projector vendors... Where are you based? -
Fujitsu Stylistic R726 - more options than the Surface 4 and prices considerably lower... Love mine, can't recommend them highly enough...
-
Ever ask something then wish you hadn't? lol... I've got to say I've not experienced any issues with support, and very few issues generally since we got it... I agree the browser based console would be easier, and I think LDAP is either here now or coming soon...
-
Aah right - what's making you want to find something else? Just out of interest - my school was one of their first customers, though we've looked at a few others over the years, just to compare for pricing etc. and it's still leading with features by a long shot... (feel free to email so we don't hijack this thread)

You know InVentry has SIMS write back? We don't use it for students so I don't use it personally, but I know it's had it for years...
