Hi All, Got a problem in one suite of identical computers (got other identical computers elsewhere in the school too), shutting down if left, or as soon as users log off... Looking through the event logs I can see the following: But I can't work out what's causing it... I've Googled and seen others users with the same issue, but no resolution. MS acknowledged an issue with that Reason Code in 2010 but even having ensured these PCs have all the updates installed it still happens. We've since re-imaged a few in there, with the same image they had initially, and the same as we use elsewhere, and it's still shutting them down. Has anyone else had this issue? Or can anyone recommend anything to try? Rick

What do you think of this Managed Print Solution?
RichCowell replied to 10101010's topic in Hardware
Sounds a bit iffy to me... I wouldn't consider any deal that involved only being able to purchase toners from the one company... to me a managed service is as others have said - regardless of whether the device is bought / leased / loaned, you pay for the printing/copying on a cost per print basis... Whatever you decide to do it's always worth asking them for several reference sites - ideally schools / colleges etc. that you can contact directly and ask for their feedback... -
They both seem great -SalamanderSoft is mostly script based (PowerShell I think) and setup specifically customised for your environment, whereas (from what I've seen) Ruler is software that does it all - though I could be wrong... So looks as though Ruler would be easier to maintain yourself...

I spotted something about them in an email from Capita a few weeks ago and got in touch straight away... I've been emailing them a bit now, seems like a great tool, with a few options... Hoping they'll be coming to the next ANME meeting, though not confirmed yet... For what I was looking at they were considerably cheaper than SalamanderSoft - the only other company I'm aware of offering a similar solution...
-
Not a problem - I've asked them if they want to support an ANME meeting as decent projector repair companies seem to be hard to find, so hoping to see them there soon too... We've been using them for years and they've never let us down... (they do an annual maintenance / on-site projector cleaning service thingy too)...

The company we use is called ActiveAV - sadly not exactly local to Manchester based in Tarleton near Southport(but Hermes ship at a decent price)... We've not found anyone else locally... Just wanted to post in case no one else has any other closer recommendations... www.activeav.co.uk

Do all EES users access the same platform for the software/keys? Logging into https://www.microsoft.com/Licensing/servicecenter ? I got the keys and ISO's this morning when I came into work - didn't appear to be any different than normal...

How good is Impero at Safeguarding?
RichCowell replied to jertsy's topic in Network and Classroom Management
They don't do it as standard, but will if you ask... Anyone using Impero can ask for these lists at any time - there's a bulk editing tool in the Advanced Policies to make them easier to edit in bulk (obviously lol)... -
I know you're asking for other options, just wanted to give a +1 for the Linx - got a Linx 10 with keyboard sat in front of me now, and I've been really impressed with it - it's running Office 2013 nicely, I'm using a stylus pen with it as well... it's a great piece of kit at a great price...

I'd definitely get in touch with support @Ephelyon - Impero's e-safety guru used to work for Securus, so Impero's keyword lists should be at least equally as good as theirs (and from other comments I've heard by people who have trialled them both, far superior)... it's not a default option during the isntallation, so has to be requested at the time (or any time after)... Definitely worth dropping them a line and asking for the keyword lists - I only got them recently and was blown away by how detailed they were and the sorts of things they pick up... -

That's not actually doing anything - you've still got all the same e-safety features, so can set up the same rules as everyone else... I'd definitely recommend calling or emailing them - their support is really good... 01509 611341 / [email protected] -

RichCowell replied to jertsy's topic in Network and Classroom Management
It's built in - You can edit the items in the policies and in the advanced options you can add things like screenshots / record screen / email alerts / log off etc. If you can't see it give support a call or email them ([email protected]) and they'll get you sorted... -

I've not noticed any changes to the default lists - but I'm not sure how much people use them anyway, they were more just examples of how to create the rules for me - then I started making my own... The keyword lists they can provide cover pretty much everything so you wouldn't need to do much yourself from an e-safety monitoring point of view... Not sure I've made much sense there :-s lol -

Everything it does, it does exceptionally - I can't rate it highly enough... That's just a bit of a niggle for me... I guess if enough people request it they may add it... I've been using it at my school for years so happy to answer any other questions if you've got them... -

The keywords / phrases don't currently update automatically, something I really hope they'll change in the future... It'd be impossible to maintain these individually... As an absolutely minimum they need to set up distribution group to send out the updates so we know to install them. With this exception everything I have to say about Impero is positive... ANME members get a discount for Impero too - Join | Association of Network Managers in Education ANME (free to join, 15% Impero discount!) -
Maybe @russdev can confirm if there's a newer version?
-
You're right... that was a very early version that only supported the initial features... the other features only come with the other version that needs to be installed manually... I really hope they put it back in the App Store though (not that we really use it atm)...
-
If you email [email protected] they'll be able to help you without the portal (I prefer to go there directly too, so hoping it'll be back up soon)... The iOS app needs to be downloaded and distributed via MDM, can't remember where I downloaded it from but if that's on the portal too they may have to email it etc.

Old iPad / New User - Can't wipe
RichCowell replied to RichCowell's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
I use MCC - they used to be an authorised repair centre (or whatever the correct term is), but aren't any longer, so can repair them cheaper now! My contact is James Keir [email protected] -

I've not had the invoice as PoP yet, don't suppose you've got that form to hand that you could email me? I'm gonna try editing a different one to send... -
Just a reminder that the next North West ANME meeting is on the 3rd December at Park Hall Hotel again... The member referral competition is still running too - so if you've not joined yet, put my name in the Referred by box and you'll be entered in the draw! Membership to the ANME is free, and open to Network Managers / technicians in education - Join | Association of Network Managers in Education ANME We're hoping to arrange a meeting in London in December too if anyone nearer there sees this, as well as on the South Coast and Midlands in the next 12 months! We'll work out where based on where's closest or most central for members in the area, so join up and we'll keep you posted... @ticker and I will also be at the e-safety event in Manchester on the 4th November, ANME members get a 50% discount to that, which is aimed at SLT / CPO / e-safety officers, as well as network managers, so if someone at your school is interested, if you join I'll send you the code to get the discount for them.

SIMS Support - Can you recommend anyone?
RichCowell replied to fiza's topic in London Grid for Learning (LGfL)
I know what you mean... We've talked to them about that too, and the possibility of hosting training for other schools etc. Especially if they get a few of the schools in your situation and being forced to find alternative support... I'd think it'd be worth a call - even if it's just to get a price to compare with other more local companies as I can't imagine there are many that could compete with their prices...
