  1. It's not an option I'd consider, too many potential issues as others have said... but they wouldn't need a SIM in - either just leave the SIM in to activate WhatsApp, then remove it, or stick the Pay & Go sim in another device, then you can enter the number of the Pay & Go sim and wait for a code to be sent to it by SMS, then enter the code on the handset, then you can glue the SIM trays shut... It's a bit of a faff as you have to wait a couple of minutes per-phone, but it removes the issue of people putting their own SIMs in...
  2. You can just click "Subscribe to this thread" at the bottom of the page rather than replying with just subscribe :-p
  3. I had to request the post card a couple of times, then I think someone else created a separate school in the same location, so I had to do the same for that so I could delete it... The post card did look a bit like junk mail though - might the office staff have filtered it out?
  4. Thanks - These are ace! I've refused to spend £30 on replacement sets so far as that's a complete rip off, so I'm glad someone's done these!
  5. 5.1.12 here and happy with it...
  6. Lasers or inkjets? the Workforce range are all inkjets and don't have all the different consumables like lasers do...
  7. I'd definitely consider a copier in the Epson Workforce range too, with the RIPS system... we had a meeting at their HQ last month and their newer printers seem pretty impressive.
  8. They'll never cope with hours... They're only designed to last a short amount of time, certainly not even one hour when they're loaded with servers... I'd definitely get them configured to shut everything down cleanly...
  9. Had you made any changes to it? The only things I changed to them on mine was to add email notifications for heads of year, but didn't adjust the recording etc... Could be worth a quick look through the logs to see which keyword(s) were triggering it... it could be an innocent slang term that's local to your area that's got other potential meanings elsewhere...
  10. Do you mean the UPS's aren't lasting long enough to keep the servers running during the power cuts, or they're not lasting long enough to shut the servers down cleanly? If it's the latter, I'd just get new batteries for them as it shouldn't take long to shut them down... if it's the former, depending on the spec of the UPS's - they're not designed to do that, so I wouldn't ever rely on them to keep the servers running during power cuts, so it's worth configuring them to shut the servers down on loss of power... We've had major issues with power cuts over the last few years, with it going off more than I could hazard a guess at... they did ruin the battery in one of our UPS's, but I replaced it and it was fine to shut them down again afterwards...
  11. We've used Laptop Bits for our parts & repairs in the past, they've always seemed quite reasonable price-wise... Laptop Keyboard, Laptop Screens, Laptop Batteries, Laptop Power Supplies, UK Based, Two Year Warranty!
  12. We've got 5 MPC300's which are an earlier model of that, and they've been perfect, we've got 3 in the ICT Suites, and two in offices...
  13. Really? Sounds strange... do they not do a lot of printing in there? May be too low if that's the only machine you had, but as an additional machine it's not unreasonable to ask for... Could be worth trying a different company for that machine... bit of healthy competition never hurt anyone... and may even benefit the budget in more ways in the long run
  14. Have you still got a Managed Print solution in place? I'd recommend asking them if they've got any multi-function devices, or whoever you get your photocopier from... That's what we've done with most of our printers/copiers around the schools, even the ones in smaller offices... it's saved us a fortune, and they're managed, so if something does go wrong, someone's out to it within 4 hours...
  15. Oops... that'll teach me not to listen to gossip! I'd heard it from a few people before I got chance to look, then didn't bother looking...
  16. We've got two OneLan boxes running two systems, one with four screens in the main building, one running one screen in reception... Works really well, never had any problems, but depending what you want you need, you could look into Xibo which is quite popular and Open Source and runs from a PC...
  17. Impero supports Chromebooks, but not Android atm AFAIK... though I'm sure they'll bring that since Google announced they're dropping Chrome OS in favour of Android...
  18. Have you tried deploying the Impero MSI to the whole network again? I've been using it for years now, so had quite a few beta versions but never had any major issues with them - certainly nothing that's ever necessitated downgrading to an older version... Have you asked Impero Support to look on the server remotely? I'd be surprised if they can't resolve whatever the issue is that way...
  19. MIS was added to the stats later, and there are a lot who haven't updated everything... There's a fairly long list of details to confirm so it'll be one of those things that gets forgotten about... Yep, there's quite a bit missing in your details - all stuff that's been added after you joined... I'll send another update email out in the next couple of days...
  20. I had a bit of a glitch initially with 5.1.12, but they sorted it remotely quickly... It's been fine since... Could be worth redeploying Impero to all the clients... That's the first thing I'd try if some aren't showing up. Isn't 5.1.12 still in an open Beta though? So little glitches are to be expected...
  21. When I worked in an independent school we used SIMS, and I think they moved to Phoenix after I left... Of the ANME members from Independent Schools, the following MIS's are used - in decreasing order of popularity: PASS SIMS SchoolBase iSAMS None
  22. That's putting it a bit vaguely... I've been clear of the reasons - because of the competition we're trying to avoid at meetings... we've only really discussed North West meetings though, I've not started looking into companies to work with for Midlands meetings yet...
  23. Plans are afoot to get an ANME meeting going in the Midlands, hopefully before Easter, definitely before the summer break... Not posted anything yet as there's no details confirmed yet, but all looking good!
  24. I'll send it tomorrow, escaped for the day now... It didn't need to run in the same folder or anything, well it hasn't when we've used it... It's literally just that short code, saved as .bat and that's it...
  25. I just did it with a batch file rather than VBS... Then drag the files (not the folder) onto the batch file... renames the file extension and they work straight away, no opening/resaving involved... We then compile the into one PDF to archive and Acrobat will import the converted Doc files...
