Only asking to make sure you don't work for a company... You're welcome to join... it's not "just" for NM's... it's for all IT Support Staff employed by schools/colleges etc. - Join | Association of Network Managers in Education ANME

That's a good point too... we do get dragged kicking and screaming into going shopping from time to time too though... also handy for gym lockers... though I doubt they'd change as quickly...
-
haha I'm sure they would be! What are you? lol
-
That's a very good point!! I was going to look into trolley tokens as freebies for the ANME, but will hold off now!!
-
Voted... @VeryPC_Anthony_L - Andrew Hopton got in touch with me a while ago about getting involved at one of the ANME meetings - not heard back from him yet though... We've got quite a lot of stats of solutions used, including switches, which are shared with the members, but which can be seen at the meetings too...
-
haha not quite that close!
-
Nearly 500... not giving anything away until we get to the milestone
-
So close to this now! Gifts have been ordered and are ready for shipping as soon as the 500th member joins!

Do you have official school Facebook or Twitter accounts?
RichCowell replied to Bev's topic in How do you do....it?
Deleted my post as I realised I'd done the wrong thing... There used to be an option to have to approve replies before they appeared live too... can't find it now... Ours is pretty open, we've had a couple of bad reviews, but only irked ex-students, some from the 70's & 80's... Most have been 5* though, but it if got more serious I'd look at what you've done too @Joanne and make it a community rather than a high school... -

You can set it so posts need to be approved before they go live... worth switching on if that's what's needed, then just don't approve any... -

ANME Southern Meeting 02!
RichCowell replied to RichCowell's topic in London Grid for Learning (LGfL)
Thanks @BKGarry - should be a great day again, I'm looking forward to it, and to seeing the meetings grow there in the future! -
Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who attended this meeting last Thursday! Everything seemed to go really well again, and I'm really looking forward to the next one... The next NW meeting is 30th June - invitations will be sent to members nearer the time, so loads of time to join if you've not already... Association of Network Managers in Education ANME I've added a few photos to the meeting page on the website: ANME NW Meeting 06 (NW06)

Impero Patch Management - Is it working?
RichCowell replied to steven_layton_sl's topic in Network and Classroom Management
I was advised to space them out more than in 15 minute blocks (I do them about an hour apart now), and not to have more than about 30 PCs per group/profile... Also - the Missing Patch count includes all the patches you've not ticked to install in that group - e.g. Microsoft, we use WSUS so don't need Patch for that, yet it shows any missing MS patches in there... As for forcing them to update, I just edit the day & time for that profile and force it that way... Not ideal I know, but it works fairly well for me...- 1 reply

We had major issues with the Kobo e-readers someone decided to get here without checking... They bought 12, and unless I created a rule bypassing all scanning and filtering completely, we couldn't get them working at all... and as I think they had a very basic web-browser, I didn't want to do that... So they were sent back... I've heard someone saying they had similar issues with Kindles, but can't remember quite what... They don't get updates often, so I'd recommend tethering to a mobile or doing it out of school (or maybe creating a rule in your firewall for their IPs and see if that works, just for updating).

[ms office - 2013] Word Hanging (2013 / 2016)
RichCowell replied to RichCowell's topic in Office Software
Just back in the office... on Windows 7 too... I didn't bother looking into the 2013 issue, as I was using it as an excuse to upgrade to 2016, but it's still an issue so having to investigate... Had a quick look for related issues here, not seen anything yet... -
Hi All, We've had an issue with Word recently, it keeps freezing or hanging completely... I created a new image from scratch and put Office 2016 on instead of 2013, and that seemed to be okay, but has started happening again. It seems to be okay if documents are saved in the old Word 97-2003 format, but that's obviously not ideal... Has anyone had this before, or can anyone suggest anything to try? I've Googled a bit but not found anything yet... Rick

Impero - Customer service
RichCowell replied to steven_layton_sl's topic in Network and Classroom Management
I've not had to contact them a lot recently, but when I have they've been pretty quick at getting back to me... I always email ([email protected]) rather than phone, but that's just my preference generally... Impero are hosting a User Forum in the afternoon at our meeting next Thursday, which will be a great opportunity to discuss issues such as this, and hear what's being done about them... All free - still a couple of places left: ANME NW Meeting 06 (NW06) | Association of Network Managers in Education ANME -
Love that one... made me laugh that none of them clicked that that's where the term "dialling" a number came from...

I thought I was going mad... I knew I'd replied when I saw it yesterday... that doesn't mean I'm not going mad though I guess...
