  1. Invitations went out for this meeting yesterday evening - I've done them in two groups this time - North & South, to reduce the number of emails you receive... All members will be welcome to attend all meetings, so if you're able to come to the other, let me know and I'll send you an invitation... Free to join, free to attend, if you want to bring another member of your team ask them to join and they'll receive an invitation... Southern Meeting 02 - Association of Network Managers in Education (S02) | Association of Network Managers in Education ANME
  2. Doesn't your firewall block access to proxy sites? If so you could change Proxy from a block, to a notification, so attempts are logged, but not blocked, allowing them to research...
  3. Have you looked into tweaking their lists? Or the items you get the most false positives for anyway... there could be some terms local to your area that have quite different definitions elsewhere etc. Nope, I use it for very basic blocking compared to proxy sites - I've never been asked to allow anything like that, nor would I if asked... I use it to block games / control YouTube access etc. the more typical/serious filtering is done on our firewall...
  4. We've not had an issue with it for staff either... Slightly off topic, but someone's mentioned the key words, so I'd definitely recommend getting the Keyword Lists from Impero if you've not already (they're not installed by default so you need to ask)... I went from loads of false positives a day to very few a month once I'd switched... I then directed them to the heads of year for them to deal with directly... The teachers PCs in the ICT suites have access to the console, but nowhere else... I don't restrict anyone to the basic console as it's a bit too basic, and I don't think student passwords can be reset that way, but I do limit what they can access - the controls for that are quite good on the Impero Server so worth looking into...
  5. Hi All, I've just confirmed the date for the second southern meeting - kindly hosted by Epson again at their Headquarters! The meeting is open to all members, but invitations will be send to members in the neighbouring regions from now on to reduce the number of emails that may not be relevant. It'll be free for all members as always - invitations will be going out in the next couple of weeks! More info will be added as it's confirmed: Southern Meeting 02 | Association of Network Managers in Education ANME If you've not joined yet it's free to join, and free to attend - Join the ANME all new members will receive an invitation...
  6. No, I create a set of unique accounts for each class... So they could end up with a few: 11JBloggs BS11JBloggs ICT11JBloggs His11JBloggs Then they all have their own unique home drives... accounts are deleted when they leave.
  7. Doesn't sound too bad, but two possible issues that spring to mind are: Staff telling you what times the lessons on... extra sessions they've had to have at other times... Creating a new set of accounts only takes a few minutes though, all with the same password, forced to refresh when logged onto initially... it puts the control back to the teachers that way if they're responsible for disabling & enabling the accounts, but they've not complained about that here, installed RSAT on the teacher PCs in the suites and it all works really well...
  8. It's the Exams Officer / Head that's responsible at the end of the day, so ask the Exams Officer for more information - it should state somewhere officially what they need... I think ICT and Business Studies here are the only ones that have been allowed internet access...
  9. Yes - depending on the subject - they shouldn't be able to access existing work, or access the work created in the controlled assessment lessons outside those lessons... When they log on with their CA accounts, the only network drive they have is their Home Drive...
  10. I've created a set of accounts for all the classes doing Controlled Assessments - so some students have 3 or 4 accounts... Some are allowed internet access for research, others aren't... For the ones that aren't I've just blocked the exe's in a GPO on those OU's... I've given the teachers access to enable/disable the CA accounts in their class(es) through AD just on the respective OU... For the ones that are I've created rules in Impero so we can control the Internet and block it easily if/when necessary... Works really well for us - I've been doing that for about 5 years now (or since shortly after the CA's started, whenever that was)... It's a bit of a faff to do all the accounts, but is the only logical way of making sure they can't access that work any other time...
  11. If our attention is brought to it at school, and it involves our students, we get involved and deal with it as though it happened in school etc... If we're aware of it it falls under the duty of care for the students, so it needs to be acted on...
  12. When I started in schools in 1999 I was based in the school office and although there wasn't as much to do then as there is these days, it definitely turned into me being one of the office staff too - I can't imagine that ever being a feasible working solution... I'd imagine the admin staff in there will soon get fed up with other teachers popping into see you about issues too... Where are you meant to strip machines down for repairs etc?
  13. I've used XMA (previously known as QCA and before that Wheatley Dyson before they were bought out)... Always beat other prices I've had in the past... [email protected]
  14. Already on it, thanks for the tip though... Should be a great day!
  15. Get the date in your diary!! it's been one of the places I've always wanted to visit too... Really looking forward to it!
  16. Email going to members about this as I type... Though sadly with Office 365 it takes about 3-4 hours to send 500ish emails!! I'm sure that shouldn't be the case!
  17. Hi All, The ANME is arranging a trip to the National Museum of Computing at Bletchley Park on the 31st May in the Summer half term! Open to all ANME members, and free - other than travel costs... I'll start a thread in the private group to try to arrange lift sharing etc. Invitations will go out in the next couple of weeks! More information will be added to the website as it becomes available - National Museum of Computing Trip | Association of Network Managers in Education ANME Rick
  18. Yes, I've used Impero for 5+ years now and I've not experienced the issues a lot of people have reported, and I've found their support to be second to none...
  19. I've not used AB Tutor, but I've discussed it a few times with e-safety experts, and it's only got very basic keyword monitoring, it's just a classroom management solution, not an e-safety solution... I'd definitely recommend Impero - full e-safety solution and classroom management, and much more...
  20. It's often an issue with SIMS Support, with SIMS not supporting newer versions of Office for quite a while after they're released - I know you use Integris there, but I know nothing about how that works, so could be worth checking with them to see if it's supported...
  21. As I understand it if you copy them with the same time-stamp it should just do an initial scan but not need to resync completely... I only use the home / personal version of Google Drive, but I've heard it works the same way... Just make sure there are no hidden/system folders where you're moving them to - I moved mine to the root of a drive with shadow copies and it kept failing because of that...

Yep, we've got two sets of those older ones, and either one or two sets of the newer ones, none of them have ever really been used... I'd bin them... I'd probably keep the flight case though...
  23. Not heard of any free ones that I can recall, I've used School Asset Manager (School Asset Manager | The only complete asset management solution for education) for a few years now and it's been great, support has been fantastic too, not that I've needed it often... There's also School Audit too (School Audit by InVentry - School Asset Management for Education) which is worth checking out...
  24. I've not seen it yet (geek fail, I know...), I'd guessed the lightsaber colours, but should have guessed BB-8 too!
  25. Obviously not as exciting as the others, but there are ANME sweets on the inVentry (F260) and Ruler (C300) stands... Check them out and grab some or I'll have to take them all back to work!
