Just the report / tool in the File Server Resource Manager - can't remember what it's called now - on one server to see how much of an issue it might be, and there's definitely a lot to be saved by clearing up...

Hi All, I'm going to be trying to reduce the data on the network, and I know we've got a lot of duplicated files on servers, having run the tool on the file servers, but I don't think there's any way of running that across multiple servers, I've got three file servers - shared drives, staff home drives, student home drives... so I'd like to see what's duplicated across them all, or at least the shared & staff areas. Can anyone suggest a way of doing this, or reliable 3rd party software that will do what I need? Thanks, Rick

I booted up the replica in VSphere rather than doing it in VMWare, so lost a bit of data, though not much thankfully and everyone seems to be organised enough at mine to know exactly what's missing... I'll know what to do differently should it happen again though!

I know there are a few threads already on this update, but none specifically about this issue... When the update was being downloaded in SOLUS 3 yesterday the server froze, so I rebooted it as everyone lost access to SIMS, then the server kept blue screening within seconds of getting to the login screen... It hadn't even got to the stage of installing anything, it was literally trying to download... When speaking to an NM from another school last night, he had pretty much the exact same issue, and ended up rebuilding his SIMS server... Did anyone else here have the same issue?

Not sure how accessible that is for anyone relying on public transport though...

Impero does log all websites visited by default.... Monitoring keywords is only part of the solution - it's the keyword lists it monitors for that's the other and more significant part - unless you've got a solution in place that's extensive in its content, it's going to miss something, and I don't think would be classed as appropriate...

There's been a few great suggestions already, the ones @Dos_Box suggested in Preston are great with me too, as are Sycamore Farm and the Walton Fox, there's also a Miller & Carter steak place just off the M6 at junction 27, and a good 2-for-1 place the other way off junction 27 (the name of that one always escapes me)...

You're going to need to look at the proper e-safety solutions, like Impero, NetSupport, Securus, Smoothwall eSafe... some of them do filtering too, with decent reporting, but all are going to require a server of some sort and client installed on the workstations... any filtering solutions are only going to monitor web traffic, not keywords, and I'd assume your ISP will do the main filtering, so that just leaves the on-site e-safety to sort...

Not a problem, things will always crop up and scupper plans, especially in schools, I'll always be grateful for being told in advance though rather than just not turning up, so thanks for letting me know...

Just been asked to install MySQL for students next year, and I know absolutely nothing about MySQL or anything similar... Would someone who's got it sorted successfully in a school for student use be able to give me simple instructions about the best way to get it done?
