  1. We're just moving ours to School ICT Services - better service than our LA and thousands p.a. cheaper too - they've supported the ANME at previous meetings and seem like a great company... School ICT Services - MIS and SIMS Support for Schools
  2. Also worth considering adding something distancing yourself and the school for any damage that may be caused by use of the equipment as it's electrical, if it shorts out / loose live wire etc. that's the reason we've not given old equipment to staff etc. though it'd be in working order at the time, if something did happen you know who they'd hold accountable...
  3. If anyone's having the same issue it is because of the SQL server updates... If you're an ANME member drop me an email and I'll forward your details onto them to contact you directly...
  4. Not a problem, happy to help :-)
  5. Have you had your SQL Server upgraded to 2014? I'd completely forgotten it would affect everything linked with SIMS, so had to faff around with it all to change the database too... We've got inVentry but we don't link with SIMS so I can't look at the settings...
  6. Completely understandable... Just regarding the recent issues - I think they handled it fairly well to be honest - I don't want to start the whole debate now it's in the past, but their support generally all the time I've been using it has been exceptional... and if you compare the costs against alternative solutions for other things you may be using it's likely to be able to save your money... Also if you've not got anything in place for power-management, Impero includes that and can tell you how much you've saved - which can provide a RoI and make it a more favourable option...
  7. I can highly recommend Impero - I've been using it for about 5 years, and have been thoroughly impressed with the support, and the frequency of the updates... and the new features they've brought in since too... ANME Members get a discount if they're new to Impero too, so if you've got any questions or want a (no obligation) quote, sign up online - Join | Association of Network Managers in Education ANME - all free to join/attend etc. Also worth noting, that Impero is the most common e-safety solution amongst the 380+ ANME members by about 28%
  8. I've had Impero for about 5 years now and have been thoroughly impressed with it... I've also got it running on a virtual server and it's been pretty reliable... I got it initially to replace Ranger, and when all the e-safety talk started, and when comparing it with the price of others it was extremely favourable... now it does a whole load more and when compared against alternatives against all the other things it does, it's still favourable... I'd be happy to chat more about it if you want to PM... ANME members new to Impero get a discount too, so that's always a bonus! :-)
  9. It is indeed! Thanks I'm looking forward to seeing the updated version...
  10. I downgraded from 120Meg to 60 a few years ago cos my usage changed so I wasn't downloading large files constantly (all legit, obviously!) but been really happy with it still... If they do what @mats suggested and put the price up a few months after the increase, I'll just downgrade again... I can't stand tactics like that... The increase could be in line with them adding the feature similar to BT though where Virgin customers can connect to any other Virgin hubs FoC? (can't remember what either are called) I've not heard of issues with the SuperHub though, I've had a few friends with Virgin and they've never quizzed me about it (as they would)... Apart from mine resetting once after a power-cut I've been really impressed, seems powerful enough for a home device...
  11. I was concerned about that initially, having always had them separate before I got the UTM, but it's not been a problem at all... We use Impero for filtering too, so you've always got that option as well as I've just seen you've got that too... Most members that have Impero too have put that down as either their primary or secondary filtering method, so it's a popular choice... I don't think having the firewall and filtering in one solution is an issue, certainly not with the UTM... Thanks for joining :-) I'll send the info anyway, and a (rather long) email that was sent to members yesterday...
  12. If you're looking after Christmas, Sophos should have released the new version of their firmware, completely rewritten following their latest acquisition (the name escapes me)... I'm really looking forward to that as it sounds like it's gonna be even better than it already is... @mrbios / @Techdw I can put ANME membsrs in touch with someone at Sophos... If you fancy joining I'll send you his details :-P http://www.anme.co.uk/join
  13. I've used the Sophos UTM / Security Gateway for several years now, and can't recommend it highly enough, it's been fantastic and coped with everything I've thrown at it... Happy to talk more about it if you want to PM me... They do a free full software based version for home use, so you can download it and have a good look before deciding...
  14. What happens when you return the form & proof of purchase? I spoke to Apple yesterday and they said I need to physically go to an Apple Store with the proof of purchase... I'd rather not have to wait to get to a store...
  15. @tomgrindle - that's pretty much what I'd tried, it won't work because the Find My iPad service is activated... So I need to contact AppleUK to make an unblock request...
  16. Unless you specifically only want some users to access some fonts (sounds like a pain)... I'd just pop them all on a server and add a line to a startup script to copy everything in that folder to the C:\Windows\Fonts directory... (adding a line to check for one of those fonts and skip if it exists)
  17. I'm hoping that's what the original supplier will say too - to save asking the BM for the invoice to see if it's listed...
  18. Is that possible from the stage I'm at? I don't do Apple, so not got a clue about Jailbreaking... Is it possible to jailbreak it, wipe it, then "unjailbreak"? it to get it back to normal?
  19. One of our teachers has left and returned her iPad, and hadn’t wiped her iPad, but left her code, so I’ve wiped it with the restore thing, but when it’s booting back up it’s asking to activate the iPad with the original iTunes account. However, nothing is working… The account was created with an incorrect email address, which has since been changed, but nothing works to activate it. We've had that teacher back in to help get it sorted, but no joy... I've contact my usual iPad supplier, but wanted to ask here too - is there any way of forcing a full factory reset or have I got a very expensive paperweight now?
  20. In now... Sorted... My auto-copy must have selected something else too...
  21. I've not been checking in with EduGeek while I've been off over summer, so missed this survey, but just tried to look at the results and it says the password's incorrect...
  22. I'd agree with @FN-GM - try to get a job now, or depending what you're doing try to get in somewhere doing work experience and get a feel for the job that way initially... I certainly wouldn't rule anyone out because of qualifications (it'd be a bit hypocritical if I did!) You can always do a night school / OU type course while you're working too...
  23. We've had Impero for several years now and love it... though it's kinda overkill if you "just" want it for remote assistance, the other features it has too are awesome, and will probably save you money currently spent on other systems... ANME members get a discount too, which always helps!
  24. Yes I think so... Mine's just for my office / custom CCTV, so doesn't need to be that good lol... Took me a while to decide whether to or not...
  25. I managed to resist buying anything at all! I was equally surprised and proud of myself! The only thing I was really keeping an eye out for was a webcam, there was one on but it was still £30 so I decided against it...
