  1. Just signed up for evaluation but their installer downloads components and is not http_proxy aware so can't download it in school. Might install using home connection and bring it in on a VM or laptop. EaseUS Todo Backup feature list: new added & improved features, core features. Other EaseUS stuff has worked well such as the partition resizer and other edugeekers have used the free disk cloning tool. I'm put off a little by the cheap chineseness of the companies reputation but the actual pages I linked to above are really clear and well done. Perhaps it's time to cut through the bloat, crud and management speak that other expensive vendors offer and give it a go! [EDIT] On reflection it offers pretty good bang for yer buck but are you really going to trust cheap software with your carefully prepared disaster recovery plans? Perhaps that's why the big vendors charge so much for DR. Just to be taken seriously!
  2. We used RA mounts with these and had to buy M3 screws elsewhere (hard to get!!) We used 10mm long screws but these were probably on the small side as screw head was tiny and we had to use washers.
  3. The Casio Projectors are unusual in many respects; clover leaf power socket, lens on opposite side, uses smaller M3 screws to mount. It entirely possible it also uses an unusual IR frequency! They come equipped with a front AND rear IR detector. Why not try covering the front IR detector and point the remote at the back of the projector?
  4. Slightly off topic but have you had a look at foldr? Havn't tried it myself but it basically exposes windows server shares to iPads. Foldr comes as a virtual appliance that you run on your internal network.
  5. @ben thanks but is this inconsistent behavior (i.e. only TCP/IP being available in computer configuration) by design or what?
  6. Sorry to start another thread but can't find the answer to this question. Why is there no option to add "shared printer" in computer configuration. It is present in user configuration along with TCP/IP Printer. If I add by IP address will it work in exactly the same way? Why is there no set as default option in computer configuration? As a work around can i just add a shared printer in user configuration and use loopback processing to target this at all users who use a specified OU of computers? Also I am creating this GPO on a windows 7 machine for deployment on windows 7 clients but our DC is 2003 R2. I will apply hotfix You experience a long domain logon time in Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2 after you deploy Group Policy preferences to the computer Does it matter that i'm not running 2003 R2 not 2008 R2 server?
  7. For example if you assign 10% it will delete the oldest shadow copy first when it runs out of its assigned space
  8. Sophos usb encryption will encrypt any removable storage inserted. Correct? If not is there a policy to allow only read only access for non-encrypted storage? I've found that the performance hit with TrueCrypt is larger than expected on a new dual core laptop. Windows experience index is unaffected however.
  9. . e.g. 13Jo.Bloggs (second letter is to avoid duplicates)
  10. I was blown away when I discovered this first time round. Would be great if the previous versions interface integrated seamlessly with backup to remote storage! Remember folks that end users can do their own restores with previous versions. The client is built right into windows vista and higher. The XP client is a download from Microsoft.
  11. @SovietRussia Have you seen LearnPad in action? Basically does what you are making but for Andoid. Kudos to you for attempting it on iPad as you are at the mercy of what Apple will let you do. However one of the Casper Focus Webinars hinted that they had made feature requests to Apple for locking down to more than 1 app at a time. Currently they can only "focus" on 1 app at a time using guided access via their MDM. Casper Focus is a iPad add aimed at teachers to use in the classroom. This essentailly remotely controls thier MDM software and push updates are used to update the student iPad with new settings in real time.
  12. Casio no longer do special educational versions. All their projectors have the 5yr/10KHr warranty
  13. I've never used GPP before this IE10 proxy issue. When googleing I found this brilliant Technet post which clears up a problem I was having with GPP applying. It involves pressing F5-F6-F7-F8 to make setting apply. Still have not tested with IE10 yet I downgraded until we run into Windows 8. Red / Green: GP Preferences doesn Question: If I only have the IE8 preferences showing on the machine I use to configure a proxy setting (GPMC machine) will these apply to IE10? As presumably they are backwards compatible and I only need the IE10 settings installed if I wish to configure a setting that was added by microsoft in IE10
  14. Any anecdotal evidence of Wi-Fi networks stuggling under Airplay traffic where multiple AppleTV units are used i.e 1 per classroom?
  15. Just logged into supportnet for the first time ever. Can't find the article.
  16. I have just spoken to one of the Tech Guys at Avantis/LearnPad HQ who says you can call them any time if you run into problems with a trial. I havn't had time to get teachers to try them out but oddly our ICT Co-ordinator who was Android all the way went on a LA iPad training day DURING our trial and came back an overnight iPad convert!! An went LA LA LA when we tried to show her the learnpad portal!!
  17. Network Shares - Support - LearnPad Havn't tried this myself but let us know how you get on. We also had Toshiba devices on trial to test LearnPad with them. A small number of learnPad features such as zero intervention app deployment and live remote screen monitoring require root access on the devices if used on 3rd party Android tablets. LearnPads own hardware is configured to allow this without invalidating any warantees. I have been really impressed with the list of features that LearnPad offers such as website whitelists linked to "activities" What did you thinK?
  18. We have 2x CleverTouch LCD's. I can confirm some of the issues such as reflection and difficulty of getting accurate calibration. We had the Infrared frame replaced (onsite) on one under warrantee. Wasn't that impressed with the internals wires held to the case with tape etc. Glass looked like slightly thicker auto glass. As other have said 4mm thick not 4" !! $2 would worsen the parallax issue anyway. These are too heavy as it is!! I really hoped that Infrared touch systems would have been replaced by Capacitive technology by now. Obviously is expensive to scale it up from iPad size as big capacitive screens are in the 10's of thousands!! Parallax is an issue too this is where the mouse pointer does not match up with where you press at all viewing angles due to the gap between the LCD and the armoured glass. Arngrybirds works really well as you dont have to be accurate. The android version working in bluestacks emulator works excellently Many of the problems are with the Windows 7 gestures most are useless so turn them off. Don't even try to use the windows on screen keyboard it's pants, a giant iPad this is not. I am excited about trying Windows 8 as this is much more touch friendly. Weight (70-80Kg). We had one installed on the 1st floor and we have no lifts! Does the Philips screen have a matt finish?
  19. I found that if you disable sound you need to disable the "beep" device in device manager. This is a hidden device. So go to view --> show hidden devices first. It is listed under "non-plug and play devices"
  20. We have 4 of these at work. HORRIBLE!! Only has 6 little LEDS to describe problems (I require a dot matrix display). Black cart is same size as colours so lasts about 1000 prints (or less!!) Installing a replacment toner cart is much harder than it should be. Would be ok for home as ours have Wifi which we don't use of course.
  21. I'm coming from a Data protection remote access requirement. We want to block all removable storage in school and tell staff to login to a remote session to access school data from home. Would also set a low timeout lock for session at 5 mins or so in case of prying eyes at home. Of course policies reminding staff of secure usage is a must. Don't think we nessessarily need VDI in our case just a old fastioned terminal Services server and gateway. Would need to support up to 50 concurrent sessions from home. Only apps would be SIMS Office possibly abacus iplanner (so some light flash) and general web surfing for collecting resources for lesson planning. Might look to leverage the infrastucture later on to run windows apps on android or iOS devices (i know this complicates matters but future resistant (as opposed to future proof) is always desirable) Any suggestions / gotcha's with this idea?
  22. +1 for LearnPad we are going to get it trailed with some Toshiba tablets we are loaning. Looking to roll it out on 30 tablets. You can trial it with any android tablet and create a trial account on the portal at learnpad.co
  23. The policy a year or two ago in the Exchange division was to drop the dedupe (single instance storage dropped in Exchange 2010) features of Exchange as storage is "so cheap" these days. Couldn't understand this at all as when people send the same attachment to 30 people this has obvious dedupe potential. http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2010/02/22/dude-where-s-my-single-instance.aspx Pleasantly surprised the Server OS division are pushing dedupe again. I wonder if the exchange division will now look at dedupe again.
  24. I just downloaded overdrive media console onto my iPhone to test things out. We have not signed up yet but are starting a trial soon. As soon as you open the overdrive app is asks you to authorize an Adobe ID. We intend to get 30 LearnPads (Android) to run the e library with (not just using them for this). Are we stil going to have the issue with pupils signing in and out etc. Is it best to make each pupil use the same Tablet each time therefore lessening the chance of hitting the 6 device limit.
