Hi, Just wondering if anyone can tell me if Three have any EDGE coverage? I know they use Orange when out of range of their own 3G network. The problem I am getting is that when out of 3G coverage my iPhone 4 is dropping down to GPRS (circle icon) which is too slow for Google maps to update if I am out and about outside 3G coverage? I suspect that three don't want to have to pay Orange for too much bandwidth so they seem to be limiting the speed when off their network to an pathetic 56Kbit/s (measured with speedtest.net iphone app) Come back o2 all is forgiven. This never happend with you and you're Edge coverage was excellent! Just signed up for 2 year contract with three this week ARGH!! Also on a side not no visual voicemail on 3 (never used it) and no free Wifi at the Cloud. On the plus side tethering works on 3.

thanks for that but isn't enterprise the most expensive version? The goal is to buy as many netbooks for the budget but we depend heavily on group policy so would like to retain domain membership

did you just stump up for the added licence cost of XP Pro/Win 7 Pro? Is there anyone selling Netbooks with Pro version of Windows? (think Dell and RM are but they usually are not cheap)

What sort of tasks can you not do as a domain admin? I know for example the bulk provisioning in the web interface is very limited. Also you cannot add aliases in bulk as a domain admin in the web interface. Quite a lot of the Zimbra functionality is only available from command line tools that are run locally on the mail server I believe and require some Unix skills to use. Additionally I do not know if the domain admin can run command line tools against his or her domain. If this is a feature offered by Zimbra perhpas Link2ICT could give SSH access to tecchies in schools. Zimbra CLI Commands I think the limitations of the delegated bulk provisioning are due to Zimbra's lack of functionality in the area of delegation of administrative roles rather than a decision by Link2ICT Here is a definition of Global and Domain administrators Administration Console - Zimbra :: Wiki

Yup, had this one too. I remember this happening with ancient mail filtering software we used over 10 years ago. Thought that modern software could differentiate between strings in the mail body and stings in MIME encoded attachments.

For those of you with iPhones it is possible to set up Calendar Sync using CalDAV protocol with Zimbra on BGfL See here for instructions (follow exactly!). Link2ICT had said they had disabled Mobile sync. Might now try IMAP syncing in my iPhone next!! P.S. Zimbra have a Mobile optimised web interface which works well and you can access Mail,Calendar, Tasks and IIRC contacts too.

Panasonic Camcorder .MOD format woes
Alis_Klar replied to Andie's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
I have been asked to buy 2 camcorders for SLG to film lessons and to facilitate teachers to edit the footage and upload it to the VLE. We don't need any fancy features such as transitions really. Seem to be having difficulty finding video editing software that it most importantly VERY easy to use and is modern and will accept most exotic camcorder formats such as MOD and TOD. Thinking Windows Live Movie maker should fit the bill but this only works on vista or win7 and 95% of our machines are downgraded to XP. S'pose I could upgrade a few to Vista. Don't really want to go down the route of playing with dodgy codecs and plugins for windows movie maker 2.1 as I suspect teachers would run into issues. Also for ease of use want to avoid converting the footage before editing. Have been looking at Corel, Pinnacle and Serif Movie Plus but they all seem to have a relatively cluttered interface which may confuse staff who just want to do some basic editing and save to a web optimised format. -

Strangely YouTube Downloader - Software to download and convert YouTube video has an excellent conversion function which can take many formats as it's input and will output them to many formats (think it prob uses ffmpeg) works on files from a Sony HDD camcorder and on VOB files from DVD camcorder. As a quick fix converted them to WMV which were editable in windows movie maker -
PMM is really poo! From what I can tell the reason that PMM creates a new account for every alias is that it has no integration with Zimbra. It only knows about e-mail addresses so each different address creates a new account. You could use the delegation feature to delegate "the.head" to "headteacher" etc so there is only one account to manage. Unfortunately this is done by the end user. An administrator AFAIK cannot override user delegation setting so they can set it up on a mass scale. Until l found out about the crappy PMM I was going to go mad creating aliases for people but not now! PMM was another nice little surprise that Link2ICT gave us.

Zimbra Email BGFL?
Alis_Klar replied to mtdmitchell's topic in West Midlands Regional Broadband Consortium (WMnet)
they don't give us any access to cos. I also looked up some of the command line tools you can run on the linux server hosting Zimbra. Lots of extra options but they don't expose them. -
sorry to get off topic but as I perceive it the growth in PC specs has slowed down over the last few years. I just don't see the next OS after Win 7 gobbling up yet more resources on the desktop. Esp as there are moves towards netbooks and thin clients.
-
Jeez! with that spec are they running AutoCAD or something?

Need non widescreen AIO with VGA output Found MSI Crystal A410 and Enlight LP-571 which both fit the bill (linky) Ergo As1 is widescreen. anyone have any experience with these models (also likely to be available rebadged)
-
Any good AIO's with VGA out? Would be good as Interactive Whiteboard machines. Really don't want to resort to USB external graphics card.

WARNING: I have deployed the Zimbra Outlook Connector to several users and after you install it their old messages in outlook dissapear. They are not deleted as you can re-import the PST file. Only issue is that the autocomplete information is lost also. This is stored in the outlook.nk2 file. Zimbra create's a zimbra.nk2 file and will work from then onwards but I have yet to successfully import the old nk2 entries into the new. I have tried NK2View - View Outlook .NK2 AutoComplete Information and another utility to no avail. Otherwise the Zimbra outlook connector is excellent and will sync All mail folders Calendars Tasks Contacts Also Zimbra desktop is great as it allows simple offline access. Works so well I am even thinking of dumping outlook.
-
goto http://moodle.myvle.org/lpsg/mod/glossary/view.php and search for contacts.csv also if you have your contacts in outlook you can export from there or if you use the Zimbra Outlook Connector it will sync your contacts

Trying to do backup on the cheap. Got a decent quote for this software so looking seriously at it. It there any way to get around this? Is there away of archiving off to an external drive for offsite storage? Does it do any de-duplication or optimisation of how it stores multiple snapshots? It it like VSS in that it only stores the differences between multiple version of the same file?

@People who have migrated. Did you have a website hosted on BGfL+? We do and we have been told by Link2ICT that the site will simply be copied over to a new server (accessible via same URL so absolute hyperlinks will still work) and we will get new FTP details. Could anyone confirm that this went smoothly for them? Thanks
-
Ah, you also realised that you don't need to stick to the naming convention or 50Mb quota they want to stuff down our throats.
