Irn Bru panic as fans stockpile before recipe change
unixman_again replied to DalekSec's topic in General Chat
Do you know why the recipe is changing? The reason is 'Never ending' Forth Bridge painting finishes, so the rust which gives Irn Bru its special flavour and colour is no longer available -
Me too. An Australian TV critic said the story was superficial and in was just a series of montages, and by the fourth one he was thinking "Oh no, not again!". I can see what he meant. I thought the film was pretty good, although the songs dragged on a bit. I've also recently seen Rocky, Rocky II, Rocky IV and Rocky V. All six were on Australian TV on consecutive nights. I missed III on account of a family tea and I flew out on the day the sixth was on. Watched Atomic Blonde on the flight, which was better than I expected. I don't tend to watch much on the aeroplane. I have to wear my glasses to focus on the tiny screen and my eyes hurt after a while. I usually end up watching the movie a couple of seats in front, albeit without the sound. Most of the time, I find you can make sense of it and think to yourself, "What rubbish taste the person has". Finally, a couple of rare films: Man of Tai Chi which is OK inspite of Keanu Reeves being in it and Doomsday Machine, which was made on a budget of £1.50 but is surprisingly watchable if silly.

I've managed no 7 - can't figure the rest. Mind you I don't think the cold I have is helping any with my concentration.

-6C this morning at the time I would be going to work, if college was open. I've never got on well with deicer spray. It just seems to turn everything to sludge and it's hard to get the windscreen clear. I just scrape and let the blower warm the window. My Kia Picanto isn't too bad at warming up the windows with the blower. The best car for the cold weather I ever owned was the Lada Samara. Started first turn of the key on the coldest of mornings and warmed up very quickly. It didn't like the summer much though! The worst car for winter was the Yugo 45. The doors wouldn't open in the winter - the latches wouldn't throw. The only way in was through the tail gate, climb over and through your weight against the door. Fire it up, scrape the ice of the outside and then the inside of the windscreen. It did have some good features though. A huge boot for such a small car - the spare wheel was under the bonnet. It also had separate squirty water systems for the back and front, so the water didn't freeze up so much like in most cars where the pipes go all the way over the roof.

Treating yourself to a pressie at Christmas
unixman_again replied to Dos_Box's topic in General Chat
I'm not going buy myself a present until February, and then it will be a combined Christmas/Birthday present. I'm going to buy new wheels for the Brompton. The new ones will fit my 15 year old model and has better gearing. When I bought my Brommie it was £620; the equivalent model today is twice that. -
I have just received confirmation that college is closed tomorrow.

I didn't say coal was clean, but it is cheap. I think coal is very clean, until you set fire to it.
-
Not if we dug up all of the coal and build a couple of big, coal fired power stations. (For coal power stations big is beautiful.) All the nice cheap electrickery we want!

I wonder if it is similar to the West Point Bridge Designer? I used to like that, trying to build a bridge just strong enough to carry a load, but it would still flex like crazy.

Well he didn't launch as he forgot to get the necessary permits https://gizmodo.com/flat-earth-researcher-told-he-cant-blast-himself-into-t-1820735736 It cost $20,000 for his rocket to reach 1,800 feet. With a couple of gallons of petrol, he could reach at least 10,000 feet driving up the Rocky Mountains, or for maybe $200 30,000+ with an airline ticket.

I came across this old ad yesterday, which I didn't know about. I guess it's from around the same time as the famous Pr1me Computer ads.

Ours was Black boys rape our young girls but Violet goes willingly for gold and silver (includes the tolerances) A red indian thought he might eat tobacco in church = spelling arithmetic, probably the first long word that you come across.

To me B5 is the program where nothing ever happened. I'm glad it's back for the fans though, but I'm not watching. Personally, I would like to see a repeat of Lexx, Quantum Leap and First Wave. The current run of The A-Team on Spike finishes (I think) next week and I believe Knight Rider is filling the gap.

I'm started running Firefox portable last week. It's v52. My install of Firefox v15 wasn't working on a lot of sites. Luckily with a bit of jiggery pokery, I managed to get it to work with my old settings, including my special add-blocker settings.

We have IE11 on our boxes and we fire it off at login. Our MIS system only works correctly in IE8+ It doesn't work at all in Edge. Basically this means we break 50% of the Internet and our own Moodle. Luckily we also include Chrome on the boxes and the staff as slowly learning that Moodle doesn't display properly in IE or Edge. The middle third of the main page displays blank, so a huge swag of courses are inaccessible. Since it does display correctly in every browser I've tested - Firefox, Opera, Vivaldi, Konqueror, Safari, Gnome Web, Seamonkey and Lynx, I am not to do bother to determine why it doesn't display in the rubbish standard M$ browsers.
