Step 1 - restart the Heritage server. It had been my experience that this fixed 95% of Heritage problems. Step 2 - reinstall Heritage on the offending PC. Actually remove Heritage, run CCleaner against the registry, make sure all the files are really gone before you reinstall. Step 3 - go to the pub, 'cus I'm out of ideas (or maybe get some support from Heritage).

Mine is a lightscribe, but I've never used that feature. In my case, it wasn't a waste of money, as my ancient PC only had a DVD reader and the portable unit has been a godsend at two schools and one stint in private enterprise. When I upgraded my box, it now has a DVD writer, but I've still got the old one just in case.

1. How do you delete records from the Completed Tasks list? (I did find out how to do this once but I've can't find it again) 2. We have are Device Groups as shown. We have disabled some settings (eg Internet Accounts) in the All Macs group, and then enabled selected settings in the Staff Macs group. The staff Macs are not receiving these settings. Here in Brum, it costs pretty much the same to go to Villa Park and St Andrews to see the football as it does to go to the Hippodrome, and in Manchester it costs more to go and see Man U play than it does to go to the Lowry and see the Birmingham Royal Ballet.

Carmen is a very accessible opera; the Ring isn't - you have to sit through a lot before you get to the "Apocalypse Now" tune. I've been to a few operas but I much prefer the ballet - better tunes and fitter bodies to feast your eyes on.

This was really badly reported on BBC breakfast this morning, when Naga Munchetty said that he was buying the Express and Star. "What, one of the last independent newspapers is closing!", as I spat a mouth full of cornflakes across the room. I have since found out what is really going on. The Express & Star is safe and the only decent paper in the Midlands - The Birmingham Fail is a joke and the Post isn't far behind.

When I ran Koha, the LEA blocked Z39.50 on account of them not knowing what it did. We had to jump through hoops but we eventually got it upblocked.

I used to run Koha, but it was a long, long time ago. The Z39.50 servers are useful in that when entering books via ISBN, they will contact a server and return the title, author, extract, etc. You can link to as many as you want, although the more there are, the longer the search will take, especially if one of the servers in the chain is down. We used to link to three, Library of Congress, National Library of Scotland and British Library. The first was good for none fiction, the second for fiction and the third mopped up. For awhile we had CLIVE in the mix. I have no idea where it was, or why we linked to it, but it was often down so searches took forever. We didn't bother about book covers, but from memory you could link to Barnes & Noble for this, and I assume Amazon also.

Yes it is, but you try and convince staff to walk outside of their office or classroom to collect a print. SMT need wield the big stick and reduce the number of printers (good luck with that). We have Papercut and pull-print, but you try and convince office staff that this is perfectly fine for confidential prints. Oh no, the printer must be in their office, otherwise somebody can see their print job.
