Can an Office 365 Administrator set up a calendar share between two users, i.e. the owner of the Calendar and their PA? Advice on internet seems to say only a Powershell script can do this, which seems a bit crazy. Surely, if you can set up Shared Mailboxes you can ensure a Shared Calendar in the Admin interface? Anyone else tried this as an O365 admin? Best wishes to all in these surreal times.

Hi All, Well, thanks again for all the helpful contributions, and sorry for the delay in updating. In the end, this got solved in quite a low-tech way. We found every PC the particular user had ever used in the school and blitzed her local profiles on all of them, meanwhile making sure she was not logged in anywhere else. Then one by one we tested her login on each machine we had just worked on. Hey presto, we got her clean profile back on all the machines. I'm not at all saying this is the definitive method, and other suggestions here may also have worked. However, the user is now back up and running again. Thanks again, everyone. Paul

Thanks to everyone who has posted so far, and sorry for delay in replying. I have checked the following: The user does have a profile path specified in AD, but, there again, so do all the other users, and they don't have this problem. I have checked the permissions on both the profile folder, and the user folder, and, all I can tell you is that these are exactly the same as for every other user on the system. I.e., no obvious discrepancies that would cause her login to be rejected each time. I did check the event viewer on one of the clients and, despite what I just said about permissions, there is the following error message in Event Viewer: Windows could not load your profile because a server copy of the profile folder already exists that does not have the correct security. Either the current user or the Administrators group must be the owner of the folder". This message appeared to be very helpful. Except, as I say, when I went to look closely at the security settings for this user's profile, they are identical in every way to the security settings for other users who don't have this problem. Just wanted to update you all with the things I've tried, and very many thanks again to all who have so kindly posted. But I'm still looking for something that will get us out of this?

Hi all, We have a user on our domain (Windows 8.1 client PCs), who, whenever she logs on always gets a temporary profile assigned. I have so far tried all the routines involving deleting her profile from registry (dealing with the .bak profile if present etc). I have tried Deleting ntuser.dat, ntuser.ini and and ntuser.dat.log from her network profile. I have checked her profile path in AD Users and Computers, for any rogue characters. Both based on advice from other forums. Nothing has worked so far. Does anyone have any suggestions that might help us out of this? Best wishes, Paul

Heritage Library System - Cataloguing lookup problem
cprelude replied to cprelude's topic in Educational Software
Hi Unixman... Many thanks for your advice, especially No. 3! Quite fed up with Heritage, I have to say. However, I hit lucky, and found a solution before your reply came in. Basically something called "Quick Cat", which is the thing that does the external lookups, so you can import the catalogue details from the lookup, was by default (??) turned off in Cataloguing settings. I turned it back on, and the external lookups worked! So problem solved. As to why it was turned off for this user on that computer (and not for the same user account - yest they share a generic account - on another computer), I've no idea. Best wishes, Paul -
Heritage Library System - Cataloguing lookup problem
cprelude posted a topic in Educational Software
Hi all, Our school library uses Heritage, and we don't have a support contract (it turns out), which doesn't exactly help matters. One of the Librarians is using the Cataloguing module. When she reads in the bar code of a "new" book (i.e. not on our local catalogue), she expects to see displayed the result of a successful lookup on that barcode, a lookup which has queried the BL database and/or the Library of congress database. This would display to her her how these libraries have catalogued this item, and give her a little model, I guess, that she can use. However, this lookup is failing on her computer. So the fields describing the book remain blank except for the barcode, and the "Search" button following the barcode lookup is greyed out, you can't manually press it or activate it. And the software seems to "think" it's running a search, which it isn't! The problem is unique to her machine. The other librarian does exactly the same check, on her computer, which is identically configured, and has Heritage installed identically, and the external lookup works perfectly for her. So I'm a bit stumped. I've checked proxy on the "faulty" machine, and it's all set as standard, just as with the other librarian for whom Heritage is working. Anyone got any ideas? I'd really be most grateful! Best wishes, Paul -
Dear All, Many thanks for all your help. In the end, I found something that "worked for me". Based on a tip I'd read elsewhere, signed in as Local Admin. Ran Regedit. Went to HK_USERS. There is nothing to match USERS to profiles here, so you have to go in to each one - there's probably a much quicker way of finding the one anomalous user with the US date format. But anyway, I just when through each user going to: Control Panel/International/sShortDate string. I eventually found the user with the sShortDate string value in the US format, changed it to dd/MM/yyyy format, and saved. This did the job when the effected user logged back in. I have no idea how the anomaly crept in to his profile on this computer as he would not have been able to make the change himself, and nor would anyone else logged in as him. But anyway, this is now resolved for him on this computer. I now just have to check his two other regularly used computers! Needless to say, I accept there's probably numerous quicker/better ways to fix this, but I found something that worked anyway.

Hi Koldov, when I log in as Administrator locally I get English (United Kingdom) as System Locale. However, when the effected user login I can't see what it says as him, as his ability to control panel items is restricted by Group Policy.

Hi there Olly, I will give it a go.

Hi Joanne, When I log in as local admin I get UK format.

Dear all, Domain users at my school, logging in to one PC in particular, are getting US Date format, mm/dd/yyyy, by default. When I log in as local Admin I get UK date format, which is what we actually want for all users. The users are restricted by GP so can't change date/time settings when logged in themselves. OS is Windows 8.1 64-Bit. Does anyone have any tips on how we could remedy this? It only happens to these users on the one machine in the domain. Best wishes, cprelude

Hi, in Word 2013, on a laptop in my office, it seems that a previous administrator has greyed out the File Options Menu item. I wish to reactivate this. I have looked in all sorts of places and not found any clue, except it may be related to local group policy (cannot find a matching policy) or a registry edit (cannot find a matching registry entry). Both of which I've explored and got nowhere. Please bear in mind, this is a custom exam PC and user logs in as Local Admin, by default. Please can anyone advise? I'd be most grateful, having drawn a complete blank following numerous internet searches related to this problem.

Hi andydis, Hi Robsonma, Well, in the end I logged in remotely as domain admin, went in to Local users and reset the Local Administrator password....To what it was before (by the way). Now I get it fine again as Local Admin. As to what caused the problem, would be fascinated to find out. I glanced over the event log, and saw nothing that even gave a clue. Many thanks to both of you for your suggestions/tips.

To clarify further, I've now established I can Remote in to the computer over the domain using the administrator/password combination, it's local login with the same username and password, at the computer itself, which is rejected (but which worked perfectly a couple of hours ago). Have checked keyboards, looked for Caps lock etc.
