We're a college and we are on JANET. I don't know the reasons we went with them (before anyones time) but it is very reliable, very fast and we've been upgraded a couple of times in the last 5 years

How about hearing sounds in silent videos? I experience it sometimes. https://health.howstuffworks.com/mental-health/neurological-conditions/hear-sounds-when-watching-silent-videos-it-might-be-synesthesia.htm

I don't run much these days but when I used to run a lot, I found Sorbothane inserts a really worthwhile investment. I have them in my work shoes too, not that I run in them. It's like floating on air. I get almost all of my aerobic workout now skipping in short bursts. Typically I will do a circuit of plies, curl to press, skip for 350 turns and crunches. I like to skip in bare feet.

I wish they would screen the original Real Humans series, rather than their homebrew version. -
[video] A brief history of bad passwords

It's World (Terrible) Password (Advice) Day! -
Australia is a hoax https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/uk-news/theres-new-flat-earth-theory-14609665 "...reckons that all Australians are nothing more than computer generated personas and if you've ever been Down Under yourself: "you're terribly wrong" I didn't know that I was computer generated. I guess that means my entire life has been somebody playing The Sims and I don't really exist, so I'm not really typing this. Jeez - I've got a headache!

Password policies don't work because they don't consider how people use passcodes in real life—but attackers do. https://opensource.com/article/18/5/brief-history-bad-passwords

I think there are too many of these car restoration programs. The producers of Wheeler Dealers have done Flipping Bangers which you can get on Blaze (63). Will Trickett first appeared on Scrapheap Challenge as one of the Boat Boys.

I wonder what you'll be like in another 30 years? I'm 61 and I might be tired at the end of the day, but straight after work, I go to the gym twice a week, do ballet class twice a week and a yoga class. I find ballet really perks me up, so I'm not tired when I get home. Gym on the other hand completely wrecks me; 100 pullups and dips is exhausting!

Excellent article on Concorde https://www.theregister.co.uk/2018/05/01/geeks_guide_to_britain_concorde/ When I first came over from Australia, I used to work very close to Birmingham Airport and Concorde used to appear sometimes. As soon as we heard it, the entire block would empty so we could have a look. Absolutely thrilling to see it land or take off.

At one place I worked, I was nodding off at my desk by 11:00am. There was a very good reason for this though - we worked 10:00 to 18:00 which meant that going to the gym after work was a rush, so I used to go at 8:00 before work. Pullups and dips pretty much wreck you for the rest of the day.

Britain?s first Flat Earth conference hears proof gravity doesn't exist | Metro News "Marsh says, ‘My research destroys big bang cosmology. It supports the idea that gravity doesn’t exist and the only true force in nature is electromagnetism.’ So presumably the reason we don't float away is because the giant electromagnet in the earth is attracted to the nails in your shoes. I wonder what happens when the battery runs out? I've never believed in gravity either - the earth sucks.

Optical Character Recognition (OCR) Software
unixman_again replied to DalekSec's topic in Enterprise Software
I've had some success with Free Online OCR - Convert JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP, TIFF, PDF, DjVu to Text although obviously it depends on the complexity of the input file. -

What do you mean by basic shapes? You've been able to draw a square and a circle with the stroke path option pretty much from day one. The shape to path plugin handles more basic shapes that I've ever needed. -

The talk got a bit too technical for me. My computer speed is based on how fast the hamster runs in its wheel. https://opensource.com/article/18/4/cpu-utilization-wrong

Chrome and IE here. Our MIS system only works correctly in IE, and our intranet, Moodle and streaming media server work correctly in every browser except IE. Does this cause us constant problems? Yep! Rather than saying "Have you tried switching it off and back on again?" our saying is "Use Chrome not IE".

I'm not sure that is the case. A few months ago I purchased a DVD recorder and last week a PVR and neither has a digital display. The PVR doesn't display anything except a red light which goes blue when it's on.

I have a Bradley watch which people struggle with - it's an analogue watch with no hands. It's one of the original ones too, which were crowd sourced. Useful when you want to tell teh time without looking, although I'm not very good at that.

I could tie my shoes too - my ex girlfriend (50 something) couldn't and thought velco trainers a great idea.
