I wonder if it will work like Australia's NBN. It has been maligned but it seems a good idea. When my mother ask me to sign her up to broadband for her iPad, I went the usual route of broadband over the phone and a wireless router. She's now changed to a prepaid NBN. She has a wireless router the size of a fag packet, which she can take pretty much anywhere and still use her own broadband. The router has a little display which shows how much she has used, how much she has left, speed, etc. She's no mug though; if she can find free wifi when she's out and about, she goes for that. For 87 she's pretty clued up about it all.

My record with Adobe support is 6 1/2 hours and nine different people. This was for a CS6 problem, which kept on becoming unlicenced when one user logged in. They never did get to the bottom of the problem - I upgraded to CC. This week I was only on to them for 3 hours and two people, to fix a Mac, which had upgraded from Adobe-CC 2018 to 2019, which doesn't officially yet exist. They did at least fix the problem.

I found that on W10, it would sometimes not capture the file and if the window was minimised it wouldn't capture it at all. However, CSL did send me some new software that fixes this problem and it now says the product is W10 compatible. I never bothered to install the new version and I'm not sure if I have it any longer. I do run it perfectly on a W7 box. You'll also need Format Factory to join the output files together; once a certain size is reached, it splits the program. I also find Avidexmux, Handbreak and DVDStyler useful to have.

We this this sometimes and I have no idea why. We have seen jobs sent to one printer, mysteriously appear on a completely random printer. I think the fact that is is a new printer might be a clue. Our randomness started when it was decided to rename all of the printers in the college.

Make sure that you have plenty of power sockets in each room. I reckon that you need at least 6 per person, and not scattered evenly, put clustered. At my first school, we had a new IT office built and the architect said there would be 10 plugs in our office - two each, one for the printer, one spare and two for the cleaners. I pointed out that I was using 5 and the other two techies 4 each. I wanted to get rid of four ways on the benches.

Being a college, we have to pay VAT If had been able to but 14, the discount was very good, but SMT wanted to see how they went. I do wish SMT would leave IT matters to us.

Our Tangos are 75".

We are hoping to go with Tango Teach - Multitouch teaching software by Osborne Technologies across the entire college. Over the summer break, we were looking to replace 14 projectors and Smart boards. The boards are 12 years old and the Smart licencing for them is strangely expensive. It was going to cost £2100 per room for new projector and board. The Tangos came in at £2800 but they have far more features than an interactive whiteboard, use less electricity, and we won't be replacing lamps at £250ish each year. Classrooms don't need speakers and amps either. We managed to convince SMT to allow us to have 6 as a trial, 3 wall mounted and 3 portable. The teachers love them, even though they haven't discovered all the features yet (the boards have been in a month). The portable ones were a bad idea - they are too awkward to move, so they have stayed where we put them. One was so difficult to get through the door, there is no way it is ever coming out, except to be mounted onto a wall.

We use one that I wrote. It's nothing flash - basically a form which is filled in and writes to a MySql database. The only interesting bit is that if called from the student portal, only a few prompts are presented. From the staff portal, a few more and if a first aider uses it, they get the lot. There are a few reports too.
