The front ones don't worry me and don't see why it's an offence to have them on when it's not foggy. Going to school the other day, a cyclist was behind me and even 400m away, his front light dazzled.

I believe that US copyright laws are far more clearly defined than the UK and education has certain dispensations. I have a vhs deck and a Panasonic DVD recorder. Very easy to setup and control.

One of our ex-teachers called me yesterday asking for some advice. She runs the local historical society and they have newsletters going back to the early 1980s. She wants to make the information available online and searchable. A fair chunk is hard copy only, so will need to be digitised. Hopefully, OCR will do the lion's share of this. But what would be the easiest format to use. My immediate thought was to create a big pdf but are there other ways that a relative novice could do it? Possibly as a wiki?

Could we just have the 580? I can collect it in the minibus.

I have been tasked to come up with a tablet recommendation by the beginning of next week. I've no idea what the budget is or how they will be used. I've just bought myself a Hudl fro Tesco and I'm really impressed with it. With the Tesco rubbish taken off, I'm sure it could be a contender but I'm hearing stories about teething problems. So, I'm think I'll adopt the same strategy and say "You don't get fired for buying iPads".

When I was doing my apprenticeship in the RAF, we had mainly officers doing theory stuff. Then we went onto practical work, which was taught mainly by NCOs. I still remember aerials. Do any of you have your tablet in a car holder of any description? My Garmin satnav is taking longer and longer to get a fix and I'm wondering about using my tablet instead.

That's bad news. It's the wires that lead upwards from the controller that are suspect. If the things knackered anyway, I might try a tin-opener or chainsaw!

Ours are 560s but I need to take the back off one to try and fix a loose connection, so I'll see if it's the same layout.

On Saturday, I spent 35 minutes on hold to nPower so I could discuss our best option. We went for the fixed price until 2017 option, which was initially a bit more expensive but we felt it would pay long-term. Looks like it might have been a smart move as nPower announce a 10.2% price hike.

Just trawled our local Tescos for a Hudl and nearly struck lucky at one but they'd just sold the last one! I nearly bought a Prestagio from Maplins but it was £20 more, lower res, less memory and no GPS. So, I've ordered a Hudl online but it won't be here before we go away. Ah well, something to look forward to on our return.
