I'm looking for a half decent tablet to take to Portugal. Mainly as a lightweight device for accessing the internet and checking emails but I also wanted hdmi to connect to the TV to watch videos and also watching them on the plane. I suspect that this means only the router is connected to the internet, the other devices go via the router. Not sure I agree, the M6 doesn't go to London but it's still connected via the M1.

I'm looking for something for the wife and am hovering between a Kindle Fire HD and a Hudl. We want something to take with us to Portugal that has hdmi to connect to the TV. We will probably be losing the UK Freeview channels when they switch to the Astra 2E satellite, so being able to watch content from the tablet would be useful. We will also use it for the odd browsing session and checking emails. The hudl spec looks good but I'm put off by the Tesco related stuff they put on it and also how good it would be as an eReader on a sunny patio. Any guidance would be appreciated.

OK, here's what I've done. Upgraded to the latest version, tried a different controller and cable, removed and reinstalled the drivers. When changing the controller I noticed the waggling the wires from the smaller connector caused the light to toggle. So, I'm thinking an internal wiring fault. Has anyone taken a 500 series board apart? Oh, and I did put a powered usb hub on it.

Youtube is your friend. There are tutorials on just about every subject, the problem is sorting out the good from the bad. And as others have already mentioned, there's a wealth of knowledge on this site.

Have you tried putting a vga lead directly from a laptop to the projector. If that works, then chances are you have a dodgy connection somewhere. Good luck.

Really good point Ian but I would hope to discourage staff from letting the kids charge around the playground with tablets. Let them break the £40 cameras.

Yes, we are seen as a primary but get secondary funding for Y7 pupils. There are other Middle schools in the county that have Y6, Y7 & Y8 and they are deemed secondary and get more funding. All a bit messy but it does mean we get a nice age group. Old enough to tie their own shoelaces (most anyway) but not old enough to get too bolshy. When Y7 go on residential trips a lot of teddies go too.

Maths and Literacy games and it would be 9-12 years. Something to keep the disruptive pupils amused and possibly tax the more able.

Does anyone use them in their school? I'd welcome the pros and cons. We would be aiming at Y5-Y7.
