Cheers for the reply - so try with the original drivers the CP1515n shipped with? There is definitely something odd with these Universal drivers - a lot of the settings seem to have gone AWOL as well...Would you recommend trying the Server 2003 drivers as before, as I don't think the CD shipped with Server 2008 drivers? My last resort is to use the USB cable to connect to local machines (Win XP) and share...but that's how we had the old inkjets set up before we bought these 2 years ago! Cheers, LD

As title basically states, we upgraded our Server from 2003 to 2008 and had nothing but problems with the HP CP1515n printers across school. They refuse to print, even though they are online. Sometimes, they'll send a job through but only after a loooong period of inactivity. Our techs are scratching their heads as they have installed the 2008 drivers from HP, but they are Universal and the techs are sure that this is the cause of the problems. Is there anyone out there who has this issue? We cannot be the only souls in the whole of Christendom cursed by this obnoxious combination! Any and all suggestions (to help me avoid being bludgeoned to death by my own body parts by an increasingly irate staff), will be most gratefully accepted. Yours in printer hell, LD

Dear collective wisdom, We have been trying to find a company that will collect and recycle used toner cartridges (not for remaufacture - we've been using Cartridge World and realise that they aren't great for what we need). So! Any ideas or suggestions of companies that will either collect for free or even pay us (I know, probably not gonna happen these days!) for spent toner cartridges would gratefully received. Just to add to the options, we have been using e-pigeon to send instant messages across our network. It doesn't have the ability to pull in RSS feeds, but it can send customised messages to individuals, groups or all connected users. It is simple and basic but does work well and stays upon the screen until the teacher clicks the message as read. We use exclusively hosted services for email & websites: 1) e-mail accounts are Gmail for Education accounts (up to 1000) - this works really well as we are using the shared calendaring features & shared docs too across staff, although no individual chn have e-mails within the school (class & year group only) as we're a Primary school. 2) Website - hosted; again we have a small operation and to keep load off internal server. We found a great host in TSOhost recently and have been pleased with the level of customer service and after care. HTH. Lewis

Just a couple of ideas, as this is my role in our school too! First of all, you could create a simple form using google apps & get the data sent to a google spreadsheet. Embed the form into a web page and volia, but a bit lo-tech. Second idea, which is currently the one we are trying out, is to use a polling/surveying web software. Instead of creating the forms and webpages yourself, create an account and then get create the categories and the software will do the logging of results. I had a look at all sorts of companies providing solutions for this (surveymonkey et al) but QuestionPro came out well. They offer a free schools/nonprofit organisations licence too which is good for the reporting features. HTH. Regards, Lewis

Papercut print logger is great for us (Primary) and in less than 3 months already had an impact on staff and pupil awareness of running costs...We will probably move to the full version of Papercut to allow for extra control and the ease of reporting instead of dealing with the raw data in excel, to produce reports - although it was easy enough! LD

There is a firmware update for the HP CP1515n series printer that solves the 6% left toner message from showing even when a new cartridge is installed. Well I came to the stand yesterday and it was great to put some faces to names - hello ZeroHour! Unfortunately all the lanyards had gone (you guys are far too generous at giving stuff away, unlike many other stands we saw!!!) but getting a baseball cap and some pizza more than made up for it. Thanks for taking the time to chat to us (Ross & the other guy I kept bumping into around the show - I forget your username but if you see this, let us know who you are!) Currently testing Lexia too here - only been running it since December, so still early days but the install wasn't too difficult here? SENCo is v.pleased as it basically assesses then levels the kids with their reading progress...Easy to use and kids are able to use it independently or with TA supervision if required. We will be buying it when the trial expires. Hope that helps. LD

Hello - we use a system called epigeon (by a company called Tech Noel - yeah exactly - who are they!?!!) Anyway, we used to use a day book which had messages & alerts etc. but often staff missed this due to being on yard, in the staffroom, on the loo...We looked into a really simple instant messaging/paging software system that would sit in front of all windows until clicked and was customisable (colour, size, font) with sound alerts too (which are also customisable via MP3s). Once we'd found epigeon it just seemed to work fine within our system - it is a bit of a funky interface (but that's just me being a bit of a Mac snob though really!) During a recent update, some of the clients were failing to connect to the epigeon server due to a mismatch of installs to license ratio and the general consensus was that people could not operate without it...it is a highly recommended product, not for whistles and bells and how it looks but because it just does the one job actually quite well and a school we couldn't live without it now.
