Manually navigating to http://WSUS-SERVER:8530/SimpleAuthWebService/SimpleAuth.asmx Give a 401.1 error (not authorised to access)

Exchange OWA hosted on the same server, so 8530 is the alternate option in setup, server isnt actually called WSUS-SERVER it was just me replacing the actual name just incase Simon

Hi, Reinstalled WSUS 3.0 SP1 the other day, due to the sheer amount of space consumbed by un-needed updatyes that declining and tidying up didnt seem to remove. So, removed the program completely (freed up around 40Gb) no longer downlaoding updates for OFfice 2003 and Windows XP, all superceeded updates are tidies up nicely and there is around 15Gb free in comparison to last time. However, now reinstalled, computers are not updating or reporting to the WSUS server at all. Settings are unchanged apart from the targeting, which i have seperated into "Clients" "Test Computers" and "Servers". Still uses port 8530, Windows Update in group policy pointing to the same location etc... No joy SimpleAuth.asmx seems to be the point it fails, permissions on the IIS website maybe? [EDIT]Or the ISUR_SERVERNAME account needs a new password? WindowsUpdate.log has the following

Hi, Our Marketing office is interested in trying to find a peice of software that does the old army-style pins into maps. She intends to use this for looking at pupil home locations, cachment area, and also using the program in the bursary for the minibus pickup routes. Ideally it can search by postcode or street name, allow pins to be placed at these locations etc... Anyone ever heard of something that does this? Many thanks, Simon

Teaming network cards for Citrix
Psymon replied to KWestos's topic in Thin Client and Virtual Machines
I got this working on our HP StorageWorks server with no issues at all, used the HP Network program, teamed the cards, created th virtual adapter, gave it an IP and voila. However when i tried this one of our blades (Bl460C) in the C3000 i couldnt get any pings or anything, we use it as a WDS server and DC so it would have been nice to get it on 2 x 1Gb. Gave up in the end, wait till summer i guess. -
Same as above, id go German or Jap my 10yr old BMW is still running perfectly with 140k miles on the clock, petrol too Psy

[openoffice - 3] Whats the current state of play?
Psymon replied to tmcd35's topic in Office Software
Same Voted upgrading to office on all. Psy -
Hi! Just been doing some reading / playing and at current we only install the Save as PDF plug-in to the computers that need it. However its useful, so thought I'd have a look at deploying it to all (M$ Download afterall, should have an MSI somewhere). Worked it out and the solution is below. Download the "Save as PDF" or "Save as PDF and XPS" plug-in for Office 2007 (.exe) Save as PDF and XPS - Download details: 2007 Microsoft Office Add-in: Microsoft Save as PDF or XPS Save as PDF - Download details: 2007 Microsoft Office Add-in: Microsoft Save as PDF Install the add-in onto a computer manually Once complete, open up the following path - "C:\Program Files (x86)\MSECache\ExPdfXps\1033\" "C:\Program Files (x86)\MSECache\ExPdf\1033\" for just PDF Inside here is an MSI and CAB file, copy these to your share and deploy with Group Policy, its around 300k so installs in seconds Hope its useful Psy

Were running the same setup fine. Roaming profiles for XP work ok? (if not check permissions for creator owner on creation of subfolders) Check that the profile is coming up as Roaming in the User Profiles (Advanced Settings on System) with the correct username. Other than that no ideas yet.

Just had a go, downlaoded the 1.45 BIOS for the Aspire 5720. Insize the ZIP were 2 files. BIOS_v1.45.exe Readme.txt Using WinRAR i unzipped the BIOS_v1.45.exe and inside it was the following. CL50145A.fd (File you are after) InsydeFlash.exe iscflash.dll iscflash.sys iscflashx64.sys platform.ini Using my solution above you should just have to burn ONLY the CL50145A.fd to a CD-R. If you are struggling to get the FD file still just PM me your email address and the laptop model, ill get the FD file over to you in a ZIP. Si

Hi, Problem cropped up the last 3 weeks that I’m hoping is a M$ problem as its affecting many different laptops in the same scenario, and can be replicated We use Offline Files and Sync the entire user’s documents area. However users have been recently getting a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death/Doom/Rolf Harris/Whatever) all with the same error. The system in place allows them to log in offline (at home) and we allow them to connect to their own wireless systems also. Previously there have been no problems; the users are not doing anything specific to cause the error. Manipulating a word doc, facebook poker and we recreated it by just leaving Radio1 stream running. Its important to note that this DOES NOT happen when on the wireless at school Anyone else using the same / similar setup? Many thanks, Simon BSOD is as follows RDR_FILE_SYSTEM STOP: 0x00000027 (0x00000000BAAD0075, 0xFFFFFA6019B5CC58, 0xFFFFFA6019B5C630, 0xFFFFFA6006A3F300) rdbss.sys Address FFFFFA6006A3F300 base at FFFFFA6006A1C000

2 choices when removing software along lines of Remove immediately (poreventing more usage) Remove from GPO but not from machines (allowing continued use) Simon

What i found with push printer connections is that if you dont remove the printer from the deployed printers list before deleting the printer in the printer list, it will dstill deploy a blank printer in accordance to the policy (no drivers, no settings, doesnt print) that you cannot delete even as admin. Simon Edit - solution was to create a printer of the same name (even if its not same drivers etc..) then click "Deploy with Group Policy" and remove the printer from the list instead of adding the fake one. edit2 - pm me your email addy and ill send you it zipped now.

Same, we only have 4 XP clients left on site (Accounts department with old accounts software) and one staff member's laptop. Problem is the staff member has a laptop and a desktop. So profile is a no-go as he has local admin on his laptop (lots of proggies installed) making the start menu a joke on the laptop. + its not much hasstle to use \\PC-Name\C$\ from a server to tidy up the all-users folder. Si

Seen this happen when using xcopy to back up. Marks some of the files as system directories wrongly and decides to hide them. Simon

All of our XP machines seem to be ignoring the "All Users" start menu and desktop. MEaning we have to add all the shortcuts from the "all users" area on the local machine to the users roaming profile (which is a pain for staff members with a desktop and laptop) Anyone had this problem before? Public Start Menu and Desktop on Vista seem to work fine. Staff members have Roaming User Profiles if that is of any help. Simon

We had this with printer drivers. Log on with a scripted install of the printer and the screen goes black as UAC is sitting in the background but as its not an admin account it doesnt prompt the user to install the printer (usually because they dont have permission in group policy) Workaround was a GP setting regarding signed driver installs or something. In the end we moved to pushed printers with 2003 R2 Printer Management console and it doesnt need the UAC prompt. Logging in as Local / Domain admin gave the UAC prompt and all logons after that (for standard users) providing they didnt need an alternative printer no longer went to t black screen, Si

Just purchased the 1 processor option for ourselves (renewall). If you purchase the processor option you do not need to purchase the CAL's for the server. If you purchase the "Instance" option you then need to license the CAL's. If you are on the school licensing program you simply license SQL and can decide wether you want to use 2005 / 8 etc... as all are licensed and available via the Licensing site for download. Si

DNS Crashed, Sharepoint no longer loads
Psymon replied to Psymon's topic in Windows Server 2000/2003
No luck. If i go to https://localhost/exchange on the exchange server it loads, externally (outside of the domain) it loads. Single DNS name is a pain DNS servers dont talk to the outside world, we contact our ISP / Host and get them to publish the records for the ip adresses we own. Wierd.
