We host all of our school photos on the intranet using sharepoint and upload them with MS Picture manager to make it easy for the staff.

We use the following method 1 - Add a new "Enviromental Variable" called location 2 - Call the Location where the staff member is located (department? building?) 3 - Write a logon script (vbs) that is a case select, based on the enviromental variable "location" 4 - Where "Location" is X add //servername/Printer. 5 - set default printer. 5 - Installing printers = 1 variable entry. Works good, just got to remember to add community printers like our library and workroom. Si.

Any way this update only effects certain machines? At current its only affecting one of two identical machines, with identical rights on the network. Literally plugged my pendrive into the problematic machine, it wanted an admin auth, plugged it into the other machine that is identical, and it opened the drive. Si PS - Yes there both XP, and its Psymon because its hard work ever getting Simon as a user account anywhere

Hi, Wierd problem has arrised. A couple of computers on the network, have started asking for an administrator account when plugging in a USB device, in most cases, this isa USB Flash drive, and the computer wants to install drivers for that device, this only started when the computer was upgraded to a brand-new PC. However, this problem only exsists on the two computers, there is an identical computer, opposite this one, with another member of staff, and this computer does not ask for administrator account to install the drivers for a pen drive. Once the drivers are installed, that pendrive can then be used at free will, however, with the role of this person in the compnay, its regular that other members of staff give her there pen drives with a document on to print professionally, and EVERY SINGLE PENDRIVE has to be installed before use. The computer opposite, takes all pendrives without a problem or request for an administrator account to install the device. Any ideas welcome. Si

Personally, id get a Ethernet drive, you can get some of them for £80 - 120, and there 500Gb, Ethernet and can be easily shared. With most USB drives, and you share them on a home network, your computer will get slayed when someone accesses the hard drive, information has to pass through your computer. In the USB port, out the ethernet to the source. Ethernet Harddrives will eliminate that, and i have recently jsut overcome the problems of a USB Drive, id play games like CSS and EVE-Online, and after 10mins, someone accesses the external USB hard drive, and my computer wont get past 20FPS. Rule - Dont share it if you are playing games / get an ethernet external HD.

Connecting to the network ok but not to the internet?
Psymon replied to alexknight's topic in Windows Vista
Proxy settings are allmost certainly the killer. IE stores them, took me 2 days to get a friends PC on the internet on there network with Vista's proxy stuff. Si -
We made some progress updating the firmware on our HP Wireless Services Module. It now connects flawlessly as the previous did. This could be a combination of the Hotfixes and the Firmware update however, due to applying the hotfixes previous to the firmware update. This is , however, purely a fix for Vista and Procurve Wireless Servies module with dumb wireless terminals (200 Series radio ports). However, we are up and running with students vista laptops! Woo! Cheers for the imput guys, hope this helps someone in the near future Si.

Yea, today for a simple test i brought in 2 laptops from home, XP Client and a Vista Client. XP Client connected flawlessly. Vista Client did the same as our in-house tester. That hotfix didnt do anything either, wait till the new year i guess Cheers, Si

Hi, help please!! The Scenario Wondering if anyone else has come across this. We are in the process of allowing students in our college access to the internet on ther personal laptops, without giving them access to the network as such. At current, we are using ACL lists on our HP switches and VLAN's, the student will connect to the Wireless Access Point in there desired location, the ACL's filter out everything apart from DNS, DHCP, HTTP and HTTPS traffic, this allows them to ONLY obtain an IP, communicate with DNS and use HTTP and HTTPS. The rules also filter our access to the local network by DENYING 10.x.x.x adresses but allowing x.x.x.x adresses (internet) 10.x being local networks. At current the process works fantasticly with Windows XP. The test setup is as follows. The Setup Sony Vaio laptop with dual boot XP and Vista. With the XP Setup, it works fantastic. WPA, TKIP, MSCHAPv2. Upon connecting to the access point we are asked for credentials (directed via radius to say 802.1x, in the "Wireless Users" group which we have created on AD. We provide the credentials and domain name, and we are in, with only internet access! WOO! This works PERFECTLY as wanted, students are known by AD logging, so its not an open network that anyone can jump into. The Problem We open the boot in Vista, we mimic the EXACT settings, WPA, TKIP, MSCHAPv2, checked, double checked, the settings are EXACT, the hardware is EXACT there is no faults. We start the connection, we are asked for credentials, we get "limited connectivity" and have no assigned IP address (windows generated address is shown on ipconfig) and we cannot get access, dispite using the same hardware and settings. Sorry for the "HOLY WALL OF TEXT!!" but if you have any ideas, experience or solutions, please share. PS - We have applied http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932063

February 2008 was the last i heard. Was gonan implement it in our network as a windows health validator server. That way we can allow students to access the network on their laptops providing they pass the health validation check, uptodate antivirus, firewall, windows update running etc.... looks to be a good tool.

My school started implementation of iSAMS over the summer, i joined the school last month, and have been very impressed with iSAMS. I have not seen the manual that you speak of being 12months old. http://www.isams.co.uk If you have any questions about iSAMS dont hesitate to PM me.

I think our school is one of the few that are starting to implement iSAMS this year. I only know of 3-4 more that are "going live" with iSAMS this year. Currently, we are going live with Administration staff this week, getting staff on-board by Jan/Feb next year, the iSAMS system is very impressive, when selecting an MIS for this school we looked at quite a few wide-spread MIS systems and iSAMS catered perfectly for private / independant schools.

If you have Sky+ you have 2 connections to the box, this is what allows you to record one channel (input 1) and watch another channel (input 2). As you do not have Sky+, just two standard sky boxes, you have one connection to each box. If you were to migrate to Sky+ you would need 2 cables PER BOX. I was informed of this when i had a problem with my Sky+ that stopped me watching another channel when i recorded one, basically the 2nd input cable was damaged, and when recording a channel, it switched to input-2 to allow my viewing of another channel, but i had a "no sattelite signal is being recieved" message, and could only watch the channel i was recording.
