Generally I'm with you on this, but this is specifically for Year 2 and we need to the 2-in-1-ness. We have a need for them to bridge the gap between a laptop and a tablet. Part of their ICT is typing lessons and mouse/trackpad skills, but equally they do daily timetabled numeracy and literacy excercises which are app store content and designed for tablets so we need the touchscreen functions. At the moment, the Asus Flip seem to be the tool of choice!

We've used power poles to carry cables up and over for most rooms - sometimes proper power poles, sometimes an adapted bit of drain pipe depending on the budget available at the time!

Nothing exciting on the website... The touchscreen requirement is making it tricky on the refurb market. However, Dave is like Beetlejuice, now his name has been spoken he'll arrive and we'll see what warez he has.

We're still seeing this with the M365 PowerPoint app. We're telling people to not start a presentation full-screen until they're attached to their dock.

My friend's daughter has just picked up a Black Magic Ursa Mini G2 off bblist - wasn't cheap, just under 6 grand, but the guy who sold it took a whole day out to come and shoot with her to make sure she got the absolute best out of it!

I'd be looking at a 4k SLR with an external mic. Might be worth speaking to your local uni or FE college to see if they have anything on a disposal list? We were able to purchase 10x 12month old Canon EOS90d kits for £400 each with a selection of lenses (mainly 18-135 and a couple of 55-250) and mics (a mix of Rode zoom mics, sennhesier belt pack lav systems and a couple of canon genuine zoom mics) and a dji gyro mount per school, for our local schools partnership. They were even able to transfer some remaining warranty to us. They retail for £1800 per kit without the extra tele lenses mics and gyros so it was a bit of a bargain.

I've had a request to replace our aging infant ICT suite with a more flexible Chromebook suite. They have 15 of the DfE supplied Lenovo 300e 2 in 1 devices and they absolutely love them. My Google-Fu maybe failing but I can't find anything similar. We're on the lookout for 30, refurbished would be fine as they have updates to 2029. The only specification is that they need to be touchscreen and a minimum of 32gb storage and supplied through a Google authorised reseller to get the management licence.

Okay, we're a year down the line from this thread and I'd just like to provide some closure... Upon further investigation with our Finance dept, we had a long standing maintenance plan (we'd paid it continuously for almost 15 years!) that our POTS supplier was trying to wriggle out of fulfilling due to the age of the equipment. We ended up getting legal advice on that plan, and once enforced with a solicitors letter, meant that they they were obliged to provide us a reliable, working system until such time as the plan expired, so they did a lot of work towards the end of Jan to replace one of the Toshiba chassis and also got BT to repair one of our ISDN lines. That made our POTS system reliable for the remainder of the academic year. During the summer holidays we ripped out all the unmanaged switches and replaced with POE+ Unifi switches, plus repairing a lot of to-the-desk cabling and a couple of interlinks. We set up quite a few VLANs during that process, for phones, copiers, and guest wifi. We then had a Splicecom VOIP unit installed by our Trusts's preferred supplier using Yealink handsets. We had a few teething issues that were dealt with by a combination of me adjusting QoS and some firmware updates by the supplier. We are still awaiting a SOGEA backup line that was part of the project!

I don't think you can set 'just reject a number, any number' but you could set a text pattern and just put numbers 0-9 in it. You'd need to be super careful about who it applied to though!

When I was in secondary, we were using office 365, and I'm not sure if it's possible with Google... Student emails had the following: We restricted Y7 and Y8 to only being able to email staff not each other, Y9-Y11 were able to email teachers or own yeargroup only, Y7-Y9 were not able to send or recieve externally. Y10 and Y11 were able to send and recieve externally (mainly to encourage them to sort out their own work experience) Sixthform had essentially no restrictions. All year groups had a transport rule with a maximum recipient count of 35 (maximum class size) to prevent reply-all carnage. All student distribution groups (eg GCSE geography ) had a moderation hold on them to be authorised by subject head, even for staff. All yeargroups had a 'bad word' filter that rejected an extensive list of profanity. Scanning of attachments for size (10mb) & types (no double extensions, nothing executable, etc). Before it goes live you need staff to make expectations of behaviour absolutely clear to every student. Access is a privelige not a right, THINK, etc, etc. You also need MLT and SLT to be fully on board with sanctions and have a robust policy regarding misuse that dovetails into your real-world behaviour policy - I forget exactly what ours was now, because it was written and enforced by other people, but it was there. We just got helpdesk requests to suspend/reinstate students' access. There was definitely a 3 strikes policy on fairly minor contraventions and a permanent ban for single major contraventions.

My schools pay a similar amount... One school gets 300 sym on a gig bearer with a sogea backup, the other only gets 100 sym on a gig bearer with a 60mb fttc for the same cost due to distance and available equipment.

Got a friend's PC that started doing this - did a repair upgrade and it fixed it.

^^ This... But Also, are you attempting full 2FA to avoid students interfering with each other's work on site or would a conditional access policy to disable it whilst on the school site be acceptable to what you are trying to achieve?

They're redeveloping it as they have an additional AV focus they're incorporating into the new site.

We don't have a single projector in a classroom across 3 schools now. We've been buying £950 BenQ 65" from VeryPC recently although we have Newline, Osborne Tango and Smart. The Smart GX are very competitive. They all have long commercial warranties. We have also NEC commercial 55" devices from Evoke Tech for places which require non interactive screens. One school has replaced the hall projector with an ex-display 85" Legamaster screen, which is flown from a piece of truss.

As I keep telling my 8yo... Games are supposed to be fun. If they aren't fun, shrug and leave it.
