Document store for Governors (meeting agendas, minutes, etc)
Oaktech replied to BlueSkies's topic in How do you do....it?
+1 for Governor Hub. Prior to that our governors had their own GSuite domain added as guests to our 365 tenancy to keep them seperate. -
I have a thing happening, first reported Monday, but reported now aproaching 20 times, where a Windows 11 laptop running on a USB-C dock with 2 monitors, first stops charging, then drop off the wired dock network, then has display corruption before becoming unresponsive and appearing to power off. Some times it takes hours for this to occur initially, sometimes within minutes of plugging in. If the device is powered back on the login screen displays as expected and appears to be charging and on wired network, but once logged in, within a couple of minutes a variety of display issues occur - missing backdrops, offset window contents, garbled text & icons etc before eventually becoming unresponsive and going blank. The device appears to not be restarting from cold, it seems to be resuming from sleep. It's happened multiple times to a few devices but not to others. It doesn't seem directly power related either because if you plug a charger in it continues to behave the same. If you unplug the dock the laptop screen jumps about for a bout 10 seconds and then behaves like nothing has happened. The fix appears to be end-tasking the open and resumed edge instance and then end tasking explorer or going for a from-start-menu reboot. Using chrome, or ensuring only one edge window is open seems to mitigate it Ending & restarting explorer cause the symptom to go away for a few seconds but then the displays jump about before corrupting again. Ending Edge on it's own seems to have no effect It's been reported at 3 different schools - 2 with on prem AD, one Intune/Entra, 2 different dock models - Dell 9100 and Lenovo 40AY. The common software factor seems to be multiple Edge windows open & the only common hardware factor is HP Elitebook 840 devices although they are a mix of G4 and G5 devices. It doesn't happen to desktop devices and I have yet to have a report of it from our Dell fleet, although we do have far less of them. All docks and devices are fully windows updated, bios updates and dock firmware are latest. Any ideas?

No issues that I'm aware of - I would have thought I would have seen more problems if I had a DHCP or DNS issue?
-
It logs both and I have other devices where it has recorded the last logged on user? - no recent user recorded but both lan and wan addresses - recent user recorded Both these devices show last updated times within 10 minutes of each other so I'm a bit confused. I have over 100 devices and perhaps 10-15 which are not recording the last logged on user.

Who can host an sch.uk domain?
Oaktech replied to Gongalong's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Interesting... I've just checked with my BM and neither of us have had anything from TSO Host about the domains I have registered with them? Going to contact them now. -
Folks, I've got a couple of safeguarding alerts for search terms which have been blocked suitably, however, I've gone digging and whilst I know which device it was from it's IP I don't have a user recorded against either the Smoothwall alert or the device in GSuite. I assume no logged user in the cloud filter because activity says only 1 minutes on the device but I don't know why it wouldn't have recorded the device user in GSuite? I've been through GAM and exported recent users to CSV and the entry for the device ID shows blank for recent users too. All devices are set up identically and I can't seem to find a reason why some devices are recording user history as expected, and some are not. Any ideas?

TSOHost for us... Accept POs and do free 99yr DNS hosting. -
For IOS I find intune easier to use, no limitations found in our use case. I can't speak for shared devices as we don't use our like that - they're either single use staff, or single user kiosk.

We've got 2 different generations of Lenovo M10 HD tablets managed by Google MDM in JLC cases and we've only had one failure.

There's no actual contact details that I can see except a 'book a meeting'? It would be handy to just be able to forward the existing email chain to a new contact and explain what I want.
-
Does anyone have a contact at VOIP Unlimited that they could DM Me details for. My contact seems to have moved on and I have a question about a quote they prepared for me.

The definition of serverless according to my Trust is no on site Windows domain. My 'serverless' school still has a Unifi Cloudkey, NVR, Xibo server, police cyber alarm and phone map servers on site.

Currently using InVentry with door fobs, but probably moving to Checkin App later in the year.

We do similar at my sites, except we also have a 2.4ghz only IOT SSID which lives on the IOT Vlan which is not routed to any other vlan. You could probably deploy that on a site by site basis.

Redcare monitored alarm and BT Analog > Digital
Oaktech replied to Koldov's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Vlan is up to you and the complexity of your network. One of my schools we have an IOT Vlan which is not routed to any other other vlan, it just sees straight out onto the internet, that would contain something like the alarm in our case. Our Trust have stipulated however that the fire, intruder, lift and gas storage alarms have to be independent of the school network, so cellular modems all round! -
Redcare monitored alarm and BT Analog > Digital
Oaktech replied to Koldov's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Our alarm provider installed small cellular modems on our alarms when we went voip, they built the ongoing subscription cost into our bill. I think they had a one-off cost of about £150 per alarm panel and an ongoing cost of about £8 a month. -
I set up one of my schools with android enterprise free management in their GSuite 2 years ago and it took about 30 minutes for the sub to become active and able to manage apps and devices. I've attempted to set up another school yesterday evening from home and the subscription says active, but I can't enable the custom management with advanced for android? Lots of warnings about my license needing an upgrade? I'm a bit confused and concerned that for some reason despite the 2 GSuite instances being set up within months of each other initially and licensed identically - fundamentals but with the Android Enterprise Free, that I'm not going to be able to enable this for some reason?

We made that agreement with them to keep costs down and the used a single mode to multimode convertor and vlan'd the raw traffic across our internal network to our Palo Alto. They would however have cabled to almost anywhere for a price

We make no bones about the fact that nothing done on a work device, or the work connection, should be considered private. That being said we are also sensitive to the fact that people need to maintain a work-life balance and that sometimes, outside of directed hours, it's necessary to do non-work related things like ordering your shopping, arranging car insurance etc.

Unsure if it's changed but City used to sell directly to schools and large organisations, worth giving them a shout.

I've been *told* that they have made stability improvements & solved the saving and crashing issues to onedrive and the snipping tool. I've had no response to the following though... * Crashing/Hanging on connection to dock if Notebook window is foreground (hangs) or full screen (crashes) (Workaround: minimise to taskbar before connection) * Not responding to app scaling so inking is in the wrong place when connecting to board (Workaround: reset scaling or do not connect with Notebook open) * Smart Ink opening multiple copies when connecting/reconnecting different models of SMART board (we run 4065, MX, MX-V2, GX & GX-V2) No current indication as to when it might be released.
