  1. Hi the SFF. Got Dells quote back. £302.88 for 10 think it might be some plastic and superglue!
  2. Cheers let me know. I'm getting a quote off dell but wonder how much that will be
  3. Hi We have had about 15 computers vandalised by students removing the front blanking plates from our Dell Optiplex 380 desktops. Anyone know where i can source replacement covers for them? I need them for the floppy drive and cd drive. They just failed their PAT test because of this so i need them up and ok asap. Cheers
  4. Apology accepted. It is a grant we have Been awarded rather than out of our schools central budget which is allocated according to our aims. We do have a strategy which is very well established. Hence the reason for investing part of it into renewing laptops available to our SEN department. The point of the question was for advice and sharing from colleagues who work in ICT to ensure we consider the best most effective way to spend the grant. I believe it would be very poor of me to just say off hand we'll spend it all on laptops without adequate research. Thank you for all the helpful advice from others.
  5. Could you pm me the details as we'll please? Cheers
  6. I have been given a grant to spend on 'Student Resources' IT wise. Its around £4000. Now i will need to buy some laptops to replace some ageing ones used for SEN and exams. But any other interesting ideas before i get told to spend it all on iPads It has to be things the students would use though so i can't really buy a new server or something like that.
  7. Yer i've asked them to call me next time it happens so i can see it for myself but its an area i'm a bit vague in so thought it might be a useful exercise to learn how to troubleshoot it. What is the network speed to your end network devices? 1GB connection to the machines. What is the speed of your network back bone? We have fibre connection in between all cabs but these machines are connected directly to our main cabinet. What is your core network switch? 3Com 4800G 48-port Are you daisy chaining switches? or they stacked? How do they eventually get to the core? Switches are all stacked. connected to core via ethernet. What is your server specs, in particular disk speed and network connection speed? In particular your file server. We are on 3 physical servers ML350 G6's E5530's @ 2.40 Ghz (16CPU), 16GB RAM, 300GB 15k SAS drives, 5 in each server. Are you noticing speed issues on your computer? If not what is different between them? Not that i had noticed. Mine is a slightly newer machine with i5 and SSD and 4GB. But they are all connected to switches in the main cab.
  8. No all cabled. It is apparently when they are using applications like flash, serif web plus etc. the machines are about 24 months old with 4gb ram and i5's so can't see it being the machines.
  9. We have HP 1910's do you know if they have that cable diagnostics? Cheers
  10. Hi I have been told by a couple of our teachers that the network keeps running slow for them and their class leading to software crashing. I have asked them each a list of questions to try help diagnose the problem. But i was wondering if any one has any software that can scan the network for bottle necks? Or scan a list of IP's or specific switch to help see whats happening. Cheers
  11. Hi Garageband deployed by the managed distribution has been the 'full' version for us. Don't know if is different via codes or individual download. I spoke to app regarding this issue and her response believe it or not was to have a separate apple id per ipad and buy the in app purchase on each ipad. Dear Tom, That's correct. In-app purchases have to be done individually, per device, with an end-user iTunes account. There is currently not a way to buy in-app purchases in volume. Please let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns. Regards, Sarah  Volume Purchase Program & iTunes U Support Team
  12. I'd be interested if anyone figures out how to do this.
  13. Maybe a stupid question but can you just use a standard laser printer to print on them?
  14. No, they would each have a unique code. Can you buy the special tamper proof paper to print on?
  15. Hi I want to get some pricing on some customised QR code labels. We want smallish ones with a QR code on and the school name and phone number. I like the plain white ones that come off in tiny pieces if someone tries to pick them off. Anyone experience in buying them and who to get them from? Cheers
  16. Any good guides or links for this? Haven't used sharepoint before yet. Cheers
  17. It would be public so they wouldn't be needing to have a gmail account to access it. I will see if they can use a none gmail account tho cheers. We have office 365 but i can't get it to timestamp the entries which is needed. If i could get that working i could get them to login to it with their work email account maybe.
  18. Hi Does anyone have a free system where staff could login put their hours, date of overtime etc and submit it? At the minute i was going to use a google sheet with a form where staff type their name and info but it means anyone could submit hours for someone else. Cheers
  19. Out of interest did you manage to get anything for the old kit. We have an old 3com wireless network we are looking to recycle. Around 80 3com AP2750's, 5 3com 2426 pwr plus switches and a 3com WX4400 controller. Cheers
  20. Hi We replaced an ageing 3com wireless network with 78 AP's in the summer with a new ruckus wireless network with 27 AP's covering the school. Has been working brilliantly. We even had 120 devices in our main school hall (45 iPads and the rest laptops) all working fine the AP maxed out connections at 100 devices but the rest just connected to other AP's near by. Overall very impressed with ruckus.
  21. Cloud MIS. Wouldn't that introduce a whole load of data protection issues? Any one know where their servers are?
  22. Thanks for the reply. Don't really know much about Raise online. Can anyone go on there and get information about our school then?
  23. Hi Has anyone else received a free report with a worrying amount of information about your school without having ever spoke to them? A quick google looks like they are a genuine company but just a wake up call as to what information is freely available without us even knowing. Cheers
  24. Hi Does anyone know of a free or cheap way to backup to tape from a Windows Server 2008? files, SQL and system state. We purchased a server setup and installation from our LEA who we assumed (Our mistake) that they would know server 2008 cannot backup to tape natively. They are now trying to wash their hands of it and we are left with a brand new tape drive and tapes with no way of using them. Any help would be great thanks
  25. Spot on thanks
