Does anyone here use a QNAP or Synology NAS as a shared area store on an RM CC4 network? Does it work ok? Also Anyone have experience at applying permissions to the folders using AD groups on either of these. Is it much more of a pain than on Windows? We have to do a fair few permission changes. Thanks

Hi I am about to have my professional development review and want to really try get something out of it this year. I have worked at the same school for 5 years now. Started by supporting their feeder primaries with their VLE'e. Then moved onto the senior technician role and now network manager for the last year. I only have a computer science degree, no tech or MS certs. I was wondering what would be the best ones to look at going for in two categories. First of all management / project management certs and secondly ones to improve my technical knowledge. Are MS certs the best to go for? What networking certs are best (e.g. affordable and useful) Would it be better from a CV basis to get technical ones before management ones or vice versa? Any advice would be great thanks.

Hi We have been tasked with creating an online system for staff to track additional hours they work. The key points are below. Anyone have any ideas what i could use for it? Have got something running using infopath and sharepoint but can't get it to be that mobile friendly. BRIEF Quick for staff to use Line managers have to approve hours before they go into the system an audit trail for changes made emails sent after each stage e.g. your hours have been submitted, your hours have been approved.... Line Managers can then run reports off etc Staff can log in and see how many hours they have submitted and approved. Thanks

Ok, about to ask a really basic question here. The NAS servers i have dealt with have VGA and we've just installed windows server 2003 or 2008 on. I notice the synology doesn't have a VGA port. How is this managed just via a web portal? Is it possible to install windows server on it or is that not necessary? We need to do all the usual like access rights etc

We have an ageing RM NAS 1 in RAID 5 that i am looking to replace. It is used to host our shared drives RMShared Documents and RMStaff so needs to be able to support multiple access from the network from students and staff. Opening and saving files to it. It could be accessed by up to 200 people at a time but would rarely get that high. I have been recommended this QNAP TS-670 PRO 6TB (6 x 1TB WD Red) 6 Bay Desktop NAS (TS-670PRO/6TB) - www.misco.co.uk do you think this would do the job? Or have any other recommendations? Cheers

Hi We have been using spiceworks as our helpdesk for a couple of years. Had the same email settings for the helpdesk using our office 365 account e.g. ictjobs@..... and the server as pod#####.outlook.com. All was working fine until yesterday. It just stopped working. We have checked the password for the email account. I noticed the pod###### number had changed yesterday and entered this in but still no luck. Anyone have any ideas or is there a way i can get more information about why it fails to save. Thanks

I take it when a school makes a photo dvd with a slideshow of photos they cannot use music in the charts purchased via itunes for example. Does anyone know any sites or places to get music that could be put on a dvd as background music to photos which would be sold to parents? Thanks

Hi Thanks for the link. I may be being a bit slow to catch up but is there supposed to be a file called php_openssl.dll in the download on that link? As i can't find one just have the three folders bin, lib, include and a openssl.cnf file. Do i need to copy all these over? As i also can't seem to find a lib directory to replace on my moodle server. Can you tell i don't play around with php much

We have just installed moodle 2.6 on a windows server and this also says it is running one of the affected versions. Does anyone know how to upgrade OpenSSL on windows?
