Hi Anyone have any recommended suppliers for server cabinet plinths or possibly feet? Basically we have been given a free server cab 600 x 800 x 1400 but it has a dodgy caster. It wont move once in place so was thinking about getting a plinth or feet for it but not really familiar with the options. Any advice would be great. Cheers

Love this thread. Going to BETT for the first time in a few years and missed out on the edugeek stand last time! These sound like good freebies

Hi We had to upgrade our IFS administrator software and we are now unable to connect to the IFS's exam server and book / take exams. We have a live exam we need to run on Monday and running out of time to find a fix. All installed a dream but just wondering if anyone else uses it and had problems getting it to connect to their servers? I have our LEA looking into it as they manage our internet and firewall but drawing blanks at the moment. Any tips would be great thanks.

Hi Came back after a lovely 2 week break over Christmas to find the aircon in the server room had packed in and nothing was working. Then ensued a manic search for fans and keys to open the windows! I want to get some sort of temperature monitor in their to try prevent issues like this but have next to nothing for a budget. I have seen the ubiquiti mFi solution that looks like it might do the job. Has anyone used it? Or recommend a similar solution for under £100 Cheers

Advice with prioritising where to invest money
tj2419 replied to tj2419's topic in Learning Network Manager
In total we currently have: Admin server - Runs SIMS, DHCP and our admin network on Windows 2008R2 Curric svr 1, 2 & 3 - Runs a CC4.2 curriculum network. Users split over the three servers, Staff on svr1 and students over svr2 & 3. NAS Server - QNAP TS-870U 6TB used for shared documents for users on curric network. At present i only manage the curriculum network as the admin network is managed by our LEA. -

We started looking at this in September but other things took over and i am only just now getting time to get back on it. Would 6 months be enough time to learn to set the network up from the ground up? We have no experience of setting up a virtual network let alone a SAN. I don't think our budget would allow for a third party to come in and set it up for us unfortunately Would need to set up all the restrictions, GPO's etc from scratch. Can the likes of RM tutor be used on a windows network? We are licensed for version 5 at the moment. Anyone recommend any third party companies who could assist in setting up a Windows network? -

Yes we do use an EES agreement for our client OS, Office and Server OS. That would be an option but RM put you over a barrel and basically you cannot virtualise an RM network unless you have them do it. Our LEA who are our support service aren't approved by RM to carry out a virtual upgrade but can do physical. We have around 480 in total. Its just that these 70 are reaching 4-5 years old that we are looking to replace them. We are planning on replacing the current ones. Replacing them because they are old and running server 2003. With the support ending in July 2015 it seemed a good point to replace them. We have only ever ordered new in the past. So will have a look into second hand stuff. Any companies people would recommend dealing with? We are based on the Wirral near Liverpool. I would love to go windows and move away from RM but seems like a massive task to undertake with only 6 months to plan for it. -

That was going to be our main plan but there is only me and one other guy and my wife and I are having a baby just before the summer and I think a windows upgrade would take up more of the summer. Along with other reasons. Running out of time to properly test it as well. So far with quotes I'm yet to see where it would save us money. -

Our current servers are running on Windows Server 2003 which is why we are looking at new hardware as well. We are also on cc4.2 so the upgrade would allow us to move to cc4.5. The most intensive tasks carried out on the machines are using software such as adobe CS5.5 for dreamweaver, fireworks and flash. They also use Office and Serif web plus. I have been asked for a budget plan as we tend to ask for what we need and they see what they can do but i have been told that it will be for crucial work rather than upgrades we would like. Is Hyper-V a much cheaper option than vmware? The phased upgrade is something i am trying to get my head around at the moment. Seems like it might be a good option to phase us over onto a virtual network. -
Just after a few opinions on how you would prioritise renewing equipment. We have circa £45k to spend on a server renewal and computer refresh summer 2015. Current Situation Three HP servers. Server spec running CC4 all Physical. Xeon E5530 @ 2.40GHz (16 core) 16GB RAM 2 x Network Cards Option 1 Spend about £20-25k on physical rack mounted servers. Continue on physical CC4.5. Spend about £20-25k on replacing the desktops (70 in total) Option 2 Spend more on servers, try virtualise and just buy 120GB SSD's to improve the specs on about 70 classroom computers. The machines will be out of warranty but we have a support contract with our LEA who replace parts that are broken as long as they are not classed as BER. Current specs are Dell machines. Dell Optiplex 380 1 Processor : Intel Core 2 Duo E8400(3GHz,1333MHz,6MB) 1 Memory : 4GB(1x4GB) 1333MHz DDR3 Non-ECC Opinions on the most effective way to renew the equipment would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

My license provider has now retracted what he said originally and directed us to the portal where staff sign up but like others we are getting the, you are not on the eligible list. How do we get on there? -

Spoke to my reseller and he said they had been told it would run a similar way to the student version, where you 'order' free licences and then have to register your establishment. But waiting for him to get back to me as he said Microsoft hadn't released final information yet. Want to get it sorted before christmas and the rush of people asking how they can get office. -

Anyone heard anymore about this? How to register etc? -
A couple of things that might be worth a check Go to site administration, users, browse users. Find one that cannot login and click the little cog to edit their account. Check next to authentication method, it should say LDAP if it is linked to your AD. We had some randomly change to no login a while back. If it says no login change it back to ldap or manual and reset the password. As above check your AD settings. Are they the same type of user. E.g just teachers experiencing the no login problem or just students?

Hi Would be interested in an answer to this to! Cheers

We don't get an error just comes up with a login window instead. This link shows they are updating it so it will look like you never left O365. Looks really nice and seamless and should be released any day as it was due October. https://about.yammer.com/success/engage/grow-your-network/release-schedule/

Hi just managed to speak to their support and apparently they halted the rollout which is why it doesn't work. Just told to wait for a future update
-
No. I've tried switching it back to news feed then back to yammer waiting 30 mins but still not working
-
Hi Is anyone using Yammer directory sync? I have set it up and it has created the accounts on our yammer site based on our local AD. All good. But i was under the impression that users would then only have to click Yammer at the top menu when using O365 to be logged into yammer. Have i go this wrong or is that how it is supposed to work? This is the link that i read Simplified login to Yammer from Office 365 - Office Blogs i know it's not full SSO but just to click through from emails and be logged in was good enough for us. Cheers

Hi Nick, I can't see any attached .dll sorry. Thanks -
Hi Is it possible to add the date and time a booking was made on the confirmation to room admins? Would be really useful for situations when a user books then cancels and books again. Thanks
