Hi Wonder if anyone can help. We recently changed our website domain host. We have new external ip's for our website and VLE. This is working fine outside school. Can ping the url and I get the correct ip and the site works. Inside my school network I ping the ip and get the old ip and the site doesn't work. I'm guessing I need to refresh something but not sure what. We are win server 2012. Any ideas would be great thanks.

Hi We have had a new rm cc4.5 network installed on server 2012. When trying to remote onto the servers from a windows 7 client it takes a good 30-60 seconds to connect to the servers. Have also noticed our intranet hosted on one of them takes a similar time to open each time one of our users opens IE. Has anyone experienced this? We have two domains admin and curriculum and the intranet loads fine on the admin domain but takes its time on the curriculum. The servers are new dell r530 with 4Gb connection to core switch. Thanks

Hi We have just switched broadband provider and our DNS records are being updated. Whilst this happens we cannot access out VLE (school.domain.sch.uk). Does anyone know how to configure IIS to allow access in school whilst it gets transferred? It is moodle that we use. Have tried removing the site url from the bindings and changing it to local host and then changing it in the moodle.config but I get a security / permissions error when I try to hit it. Thanks

Hi Just about to start setting up our BYOD network and wondered how most do it. From what I can see with ruckus you em an either allow students (we will only be offering it to sixth form) to log in with ad credentials and download a config, issue a guest pass. Which way do you use? Are there any things you would say avoid? As for vlanning (I have no experience which will be evident) do you all vlan off your BYOD traffic? If so do I tag or untag the ports? Do I only need to tag/untag the wireless ap ports or all? We have HP switches if that makes any difference. Thanks

Outlook 365 Web App, Dont have permission to download attachments

Hi Might be a coincidence but i've had one user report this problem this morning. Went and saw them and tried again on a different computer and it worked :S -
Hi In the past we have used ecosystems to recycle hardware (old desktops, printers etc) after we saw other edugeek users had used them. We went to book another free recycling collection with them and they now charge an annual fee, which i only found out by reading their contract. No mention was made of this when booking the collection! Also according to them the whole hardware recycling industry is in breach of Data protection Act 1998 as they do not use contracts, risk assessments and method statements. So even our past collections with them they are saying breached DPA. This seemed quite a claim for them to make. http://www.ecosystems-group.co.uk/interview.mp4 Do you have risk assessments, method statements and contracts with your hardware recycling companies? I wanted to see who else people use and if they provide the service for free and abide by DPA and WEEE. Cheers

Using Social media to increase awareness of our school.
tj2419 replied to tj2419's topic in How do you do....it?
@FragglePete Hi thanks for sharing your experiences. Do you have a set of ground rules you are able to share? Thanks -
Hi We are wanting to introduce a social media strategy at our school. Start effectively using facebook twitter and instagram to start putting good news stories and updates out into the community. A number of schools in our area use them well posting lots of interesting updates that makes the school look really exciting. Just wondering if anyone else uses them? and if you could answer the following. How do you use it? Just broadcast information or communicate with parents? How many people have access to the accounts? Who are they? Job role? Do posts have to get approved or are they trusted to post what they deem appropriate? Do you have a strategy / policy in place for it? If so can you share it? Are you able to share any stats to show engagement with it? e.g. https://analytics.twitter.com/ Thanks

Hi I have been looking at the likes of millgates edugate scheme as a way of offering devices to students to use on our BYOD network. I wanted to hear from any schools that either are signed up to Edugate or run a parental contribution scheme in their school. How are you finding it? Does it work well? Has it increased your workload? Was there opposition from parents? Do you offer the scheme but not have all parents signed up? Were there any pitfalls? Just generally any feedback to see if it is worth speaking to our parents. Thanks

Succesmaker v 1.3 and Windows Server 2012r2
tj2419 replied to Chunky's topic in Educational Software
Hi I have been looking into this too. We were told 1.3 wouldn't run on anything after 2003. RM do an upgrade to 1.7.2 but "We do offer upgrade licences for Successmaker however they are only purchasable with installation which comes to a total of £625" This service includes project co−ordination and a visit from a member of our installations team to install Successmaker version 1.7.2 your network. SuccessMaker version 1.7.2 allows the learning system to be used on the Windows® 7 operating system and Windows® Server 2008 R2 environments. Please note that no data can be migrated from a previous version of Successmaker to v1.7.2. Anyone replace it with another piece of software? -

It was just to get access to sccm. Does that come on the core cal as well? Cheers

Hi John Yes 120 is the FTE count. The servers will all be running windows server 2012 and are just physical no virtualisation. The desktops all came with a version of windows to allow us to upgrade the OS. e.g. Win co, 7 or 8. Thanks

Office 365 - Do you have staff and students on the same tenant?
tj2419 replied to tj2419's topic in Cloud Services
Out of interest then for everyone who has them all on the same tenant. Can students view your whole GAL? Could they technically email a mailing group e.g. all staff? Also noticed whilst testing they could add staff calendars to their calendars and view their busy free information. Not sure this is a major issue really. Cheers -

Office 365 - Do you have staff and students on the same tenant?
tj2419 replied to tj2419's topic in Cloud Services
That's our main worry. Our staff tend to do it a lot mixing our staff up and staff at our LEA. For that it isn't too much of an issue but sending information about SEN students to a student at the school could be a major issue. Thanks -
Hi Sorry yet another Office 365 question from myself. Do schools that use office 365 for both students and staff have them both on the same tenant or on separate ones? The reason i ask is to use sharepoint for shared resources etc it must be complicated with two tenants / not workable? We currently have them separate to prevent staff accidentally emailing students. Is there a way to prevent this with them on the same tenant? Kind of like a wall between the two domains to stop them emailing each other? As a side not does anyone user yammer with all their staff and students on the same one? Thanks

Are you moving all your users documents into it? If you are have you copied the documents over or are you asking them to? Can you get their network drive to sync through it to OneDrive? Just worried if we put everything on it that if the internet connection died you lose your whole network. Cheers
-
Hi As the title suggests we use Office 365 for a number of things in school. (Secondary). I am interested in hearing from any schools who have put shared documents in sharepoint. If so could you answer any of the following? How did you get the documents on there? How much data did you copy over? 300GB or 2TB? Have you just got it all in one site or created a student site and a staff site? have you paid for extra storage or used the free storage? Does it sync to a local drive or all cloud based and access through the web? How did you structure it? Any tips and advice would be great thanks.

Hi Where i work we have Office 365. It was setup before i started here and i have a pet hate in that the domain was registered as http://swhmail.onmicrosoft.com/. This means that to access our sharepoint site it begins with swhmail. I would rather it be something without the word mail in there as Office 365 does so much more, which is what I am looking at pushing next year. Is there anyway to change the domain / remove the word mail? Cheers
