Hi I am wanting to manage desktop clients so deploy images to them and software mainly and see what else it can do along those lines. Mainly manage computers. Would the version thats built into the EES be enough? When you say desktop cals all we have on our EES is the client OS one which lets us license windows 7 and one for MS Office. Cheers

Cheers @synaesthesia Does anyone have a good company to contact for a budgetary quote? Obviously it's not going to be till Summer 2015 that i would be carrying out any work but would be useful to see if getting Hyper-V or VM Ware would be within our budget. Or whether we carry on and use Xenserver (Free edition). Need to get the servers about 71 desktops and some SSD's and possibly veeam licenses if we went virtual for the servers. The question then starts if we went virtual how many servers we would get as we are currently 3 RM CC4 servers with the users split across the three servers.

Hi Just looking at adding sccm to our res for a year to test it out. It looks like there are a few different components / flavours. What versions do you guys use? We aren't going to have virtual desktops yet but would like to use it to manage images, application deployment and endpoint i think for our antivirus. Anything else i should be looking at for it? Hi I just installed the 10.3 update to my 10.2 installation of HAP. Love the prompt when downloading file for how they want to do it. But when i open a word document using direct edit, edit and hit save i get a server 500 error. In the server logs it gives me an error " An error occurred in Home Access Plus+ Page: /hap/api/myfiles-upload/n/ " Any ideas what it could be? Thanks

Hi Does anyone have a working method for importing the their IT room bookings from SIMS into HAP? I'm running version 10. Tried running the report on codeplex then copying the output to C:\inetpub\wwwroot\HAP\app_data\sims-bookings.xml and making sure the display name is the same but it only imports 39 lessons even though there are more in the sims-bookings.xml. It also sets the day for each booking to -1 Thanks

1. Go to your Hap +Config 2. Select the Homepage Tab 3. Click Add Link and fill in like the images below. (For the show to put the groups you want to show it to. Mine just show admin as i haven't yet launched it with staff) Then when adding rooms or resources to your room booking (Booking system tab) make sure you match up the Resource Type to IT Rooms = Room, Laptops = Laptops and iPads = Other. Voila

Hi Does anyone else use office 365 for their SMTP server in HAP? I am trying to set up the email notifications for room admins but nothing is coming through. I have made sure the users have the email addresses populated in AD. I need the SMTP Server Address: (Currently outlook.office365.com Port: Currently 25 SSL: On or off? SMTP User: standard email account SMTP Password: User password Any tips would be great thanks

Hi We just did 160 students in one go last Tuesday and a few more sessions this week. Our normal process is as follows: 1. Set up new accounts via import from CSV with each user having an individual password (Normally three letters long with their initials and house initial) 2. A day or two before we check a few random computers load the page ok and pass the compatibility test link on the homepage. (Flash etc) 3. On the day of an exam we go and log all the computers in with an exam login and open up the window and plug in the headphones just before students arrive. 4. Students come in and the member of staff advises them what to do etc. 5. When they have clicked the traffic light we ask all the students that they can hear the demo questions being read out so we can sort headphones before they start the real test. 6. Then leave them to it. Runs pretty smoothly compared to some of the other electronic tests we do.

Hi We had a new wireless network put in a year ago. Ruckus ZD 3000 and zoneflex 7300 series AP's with HP 2530 POE switches. It looks like over the holidays one POE switch has developed an issue. All the AP's connected to it have gone offline. The switch powers on, shows no fault lights. I cannot connect to it via IP address and get no flashing lights next to the ethernet ports. I've tried restarting it, changing the ethernet uplink cable, disconnecting all AP's. The only thing worth note is that the cabinet it is in was all powered off when we returned. restarted it and all the other switch and the POE switch came on :S Any ideas?

Update: Accessing https://hap.schoolname.co.uk/hap works outside of school and on our DC's but not on the workstations. I set up the DNS forwarding zone as suggested on here which has got me this far. Anyone any ideas why it wouldn't work on the workstations but would on the servers? On the workstations it just comes up with a certificate warning saying "There is a problem with this websites security certificate"

@clareq Thanks, So if i'm understanding you right with SCCM you can deploy software almost like CC4? @Jasbo Thanks, we are all physical at the minute. Don't think our budget would allow for the likes of hyper-V or VMWare. What's your opinion on building it on the open source citrix xen Server? With imaging with SCCM or MDT do you need to have a different image for each model of computer on your network or can you have a standard one and it picks up the drivers for each model separately?

To move to new. That would be part of my backup plan that if it went catastrophically wrong we could plug the old servers back in.

Hi I am about to embark this year on a new daunting but exciting project. After many years wanting to move from CC4 to windows i have finally been given the time to do a feasibility study, test and plan. Aim To see if going to a windows network offers a better service to our school network users. Whether it is cheaper for us and how it would be to manage. Background We are currently a CC4 school with around 400 desktops, 80 laptops and iPads. We have around 1000 students and 130 staff. We have three CC4 servers with users split across them. We have a team of three technicians (Network Manager, Ast Network Manager and IT Technician) plus an apprentice soon. I have seen on here a number of people who have carried out a similar project. I was wondering if anyone could help with the following questions? I think edugeek is going to become even more of a friend this year Does anyone have any plans or project proposals given to SLT etc from carrying out a similar project to help me plan it out from where to start testing etc? Alternative softwares to carry out similar functions e.g. RM Tutor, Startup and shutdown schedules, Delivering acceptable use policies to the computers when users log in Rough timeframe from people who have done it previously? I am aiming to carry it out over next summer if all goes well. Any tips, strategies or pitholes to avoid? Places for good information (Apart from here) Any good AD tools for bulk creating users and managing changes to them I can't get my head around how we would copy over documents and profiles? Would we give them new profiles? The Idea (Very fluid at the minute, forgive any mistakes ) Move to new server hardware. Move to server 2012 with windows 7 on all desktops. Use MDT and WDS to create / and deploy images. Group policy to deploy none standard software. I'm sure this is just the start of my questions

I've just spotted something that has me totally confused now :S I have altered the master page so it adds our school name on the homepage where you login. At home = changes do not show up & no certificate warning. In School = Changes show up but has certificate warning. Anyone know what might cause this? Two different versions of the page?

Now working on the DNS servers but still not on the clients. This is driving me mad I feel so close to getting it working yet so far.

Have to say last year it took over an hour for someone to answer the phone to us. This year massive improvement they have a dedicated line for intake issues. Called, answered within 2 minutes opened a ticket and sent over logs and have had a reply with how to fix the issue within the same day. Very impressed this year.
