I know cheapness should never come into it but in the reality of things it sadly has to for us. I am looking at renewing our backup for our physical servers. Looking at purchasing two qnap NAS servers 32 TB each and using backup assist to backup to one and mirror to the other. I would like to see if we can find an affordable cloud backup service that uses rsync to be compatible with backup assist. Can anyone recommend one? Or does anyone use one with backup assist currently? Need to find one asap. Cheers

It's only 5 users affected so if I ran the sync before we changed theirs would it just mean they wouldn't be synced up until their names matched? Or would it create an additional email account? Thanks

I am about to finally setup dirsync. Can I just ask will it automatically link the users whose username is the same and the beginning of their email and who have the correct UPN? Also for users who have different network username to the office 365 account. is there a way to manually link them? Or will it just create them a new email account? Thanks

I am trying to persuade the powers that be that it would be better to have staff and students be able to email each other too. It was blocked a while back but now Office 365 is used more and more it makes more sense to use it. But need to have the restriction in place for now. Have managed to achieve it with mail flow rules.

I see there are only three levels of permissions View, Edit, Owner. If I just don't assign them any does that mean they cannot access it? Cheers

Hi I currently have students and staff on separate tenants. We are looking to merge them all onto one tenant soon. Both using different domains. What i am interested in is how you have segregated certain areas of Office 365 to prevent students seeing things the staff do not want to e.g. documents, sharepoint sites yammer. Could you please add any information you think is relevant to below on what you have put in place? Plan Email - Create separate GAL for students, Prevent students emailing to groups. Yammer - Unassigned licence from student accounts, set up a mail flow rule to stop any emails containing the word yammer. People - Should be fixed by the separate GAL to prevent students looking up staff. Calendars - Will the GAL change stop students adding staff calendars to see busy / non busy time? Delve - Is there a way to turn this tile off? Or prevent students finding staff documents using this? Sharepoint - This is the main issue. I am yet to find an easy way to lock this down. If anyone can share what they have done i would be eternally grateful. Also staff keep creating groups that show up in sharepoint. Is there a way to stop this? Thanks

Yes. Sims is used on our curriculum network but the sims database is installed on the 'admin' server where all the admin documents are etc. So as far as I can see we would just need to rebuild the computers onto CC4.5, create accounts for the users and copy their documents over. (Not a massive task as there is only about 20 of them). The only issue I can see is installing things like FMS on our network as again that is handled by our LEA SIMS support team.

Hi We are currently supported by our LEA and have a curriculum network that we (Onsite technicians) run and there is an admin network that is mainly supported by our LEA support contract. I have asked previously about merging the two networks but our SLT were put off the idea by our LEA. Looking at RM support contracts I can see how much cheaper our support would be direct from RM and the cost and management benefits of having all staff on the same network. What I wanted to ask is has anyone done this before? Moved from two domains (One RM and one Windows) to one RM network? My main concerns are around SIMS and getting it to work on the RM network well. Our curriculum network is teachers, TA's and students. Our admin network is PA's, office staff and finance. Any advice would be great. *Please don't turn this into an RM vs vanilla debate. The current proposition is just to move everyone onto the RM network.

Us too. The internet connection comes back but then everyone has to log into their browsers to get the connection working again on their desktop. Since it started working again this morning I, myself, have had to log in three times within a couple of hours. With regards to the SLA the issue is keeping track of all of the outages there has been that many the last couple of weeks! I would like to know what is different with the affected filters compared to the ones that work?

Yes, we seem to have been switched to filter 12 at the moment as all our users are being asked to log in. Same situation here, I pushed for us to move away from LA and this is really being awful.

Is anyone else on filter 11 with schools broadband? We are being plagued with outages on a near daily basis at the moment and it has been going on for weeks now! It is causing major issues. If you are with schools broadband on a different filter is it working?

Hi We have an RM CC4.5 network running on a Windows Server 2012 domain. For some reason network discovery just seems to have stopped working and i cannot find why. Anyone else experienced this? Any ideas? Thanks

I have two questions. Question 1 When people say they use Free Veeam on physical boxes. Does this mean you can use it to backup physical servers? e.g. server 2012? Question 2 Secondly the way the billing works for azure. If I have 6 physical servers and all the full backups of each server total 4.2TB. Would the costs for azure be roughly like below. MONTH 1 = 0.0305 * 4.2TB = £131.17 MONTH 2 onwards = 0.0305 * amount of changes to files. Would be more like GB than TB from then on? So after a large initial payment (Month 1) whilst the bulk of the files are backed up, each subsequent month is much cheaper as the changes are going to be in the GB rather than TB? Thanks

How much data do you backup? What do you backup? All user directories, all shared drives, just system states etc? Rough idea of cost? Provider? Many thanks in advance

Hi Our backup system currently uses backup exec on an annual licence and the fee is going to go up from £600 to over £3000!! So I am looking for a new backup system. Can anyone recommend one to use? We currently have a D-D-T system with HP DL180 G6 servers both with 12TB of useable space and a HP autoloader. We need more storage as we have maxed out the 12TB. (Each backup server has 12TB) Does anyone have any advice on what systems to look at? Software they can recommend? Suppliers to speak to? Our school is reluctant to move onto a monthly payable cloud system, but I would like to investigate cloud backup as an option. I should add we are physical servers with an rm cc4 network. We do have a moodle server running on xen server that would need to be backed up as well. Servers to be backed up are 3 physical cc4 servers 1 physical windows server 1 qnap nas 1 virtual moodle server Thanks for any advice
