I think this is a major oversight by the DFE. Repeating what I said above, OM4 is very likely to be maxed out on the day it’s installed. There will be lots of installs that exceed 125 meters. Someone should approach them about this…

Breach I listed to a Podcast (American Scandal) a while back, it was about someone in the FBI who was leaking secrets to the Russians. He basically ran the FBI secrets database, printed them all off and handed them over. The podcast we really good. I learnt there was a movie based on this called Breach. I watched it at the weekend. I was very disappointed. It only covered the undercover work to expose him and totally missed the best bit of telling the whole story. It was also quite Dull. Would not recomend.

Do not go multi mode OM4 - go Single Mode OS2. Why? The main reason is Single Mode is much more future proof, it can carry fast speeds at longer distances. You won't need to upgrade as much. If you want, you can use Bi Directional SFP. This means you only need 1 strand of fibre not 2. Effectively doubling the capacity of the cable. You can also use it to patch through incoming telco fibre - should you need to. Single Mode used to be more expensive than multi mode. But with lots of fibre to the home installations it's made it much cheaper. A recent install at work, it was cheaper! One big thing to note, if your cable runs are over 125 meters and you want to go above 10gig in the future that OM4 cable will be no good. It will be maxed out the day it is installed.

I find it interesting that they continued with the PSTN network for so long. Many other countries (Australia for example) moved everyone over to VOIP when they were upgraded to Fibre (Fibre To The Cabinet included).

I think you missed my point. If you're running old hardware that is no longer supported, you won't be able to update the BIOS to fix the security issue as the manufacturer won't develop an update. We do update our devices to the latest version, but deployed and installed automatically. We don't do it manually.

I also have an EcoVacs. Works great, never had an issue. It always surprises me how much dust it picks up off my “clean” floor. The mopping function isn’t the best. But to be fair having a toddler with all sorts stuck to my tiles is a challenge for a manual mop!

From what I understand it’s just the PSTN that is switching off. So phones now only go over VOIP. So you should be set.

A common issue is that the computer boots before the network is connected. It becomes more of a problem with SSD. Maybe try setting it as a shutdown script?

Surely you have redundant internet connections?

What about the hardware security updates such the BIOS?

Would something like Microsoft Forms be ok?

Yes we are seeing this. Only on Windows 11 and not very frequently. Not sure if the cause yet.

The way security is getting this isn’t that big of an issue anymore. Lots of people are now routing through an interior firewall to achieve micro segmentation.

Our last place had HP Elitebooks. They were fine, but they seemed to wear quicker than the older Dells did. I was issued one and I looked after it, not a scratch, but the keys and palm rest have worn quite a bit.

I have never touched them myself, but funnily enough I do share experiences with some people here. Around Christmas I got a call from a contact I have in the UK who was looking for someone who knew Extreme Networks as they wanted to make config changes. They couldn’t find anyone in the UK and reached out to me in Australia. I hadn’t used them before so couldn’t help.

I don't really understand why anything needs to be on them in the first place? Our supermarket just has them "blank".
