I was having a chat today with someone and reminded me of the scheme Tesco used to run. With your shopping, you got a voucher and the schools could cash them in for computers. I remember this when I was at primary school in the late 90s. I am curious is anyone else remembers and if anyone worked in a school at the time? Did you actually get anything decent? I assume millions of vouchers were needed for an actual full computer!

The answer to both of those is a no. It doesn’t do drivers. It might do all your apps, it depends what you have. There is a list on their website.

You need a proper vulnerability manager. Rapid7, Crowdstrike,tenable for example. It will look at everything you have and tell you what needs fixing. Operating system, applications, bios, printers, switches etc. LanSweeper and other tools will show some data. But will massively fall short. There is no point doing it unless you do it properly.

You don’t use your standard workstation to login with your admin account. You would use a jump host. That jump host shouldn’t have office installed. Security principles are to never mix your every day workstation and your admin activity. It’s the same reason you don’t manage Active Directory from your own endpoint.

For 10 gig link you need the Pro range. The non pro (Standard?) have an SFP port but limited to 1 gig. Also note that the Pro range have more POE capacity than the non Pro. It might help with your procurement decisions.

Not a school but I can’t see why it can’t be done. Once the alarm is triggered, this status is in the BMS (maybe it could be also picked up in the access control system). Automation prints the fire list to 3 seperate copiers automatically. Staff pick them up on the way out. We only need 1 copy but covers us if one is out of paper or something.

This would be part of your BAU patching schedule anyway wouldn’t it?
