  1. Ongoing battle this one. In SIMS where should the students email address be recorded (student school email address that is) I think it should be in section 5 of the student record. I keep finding the parents email address in this section. What do you guys and dolls do? Cheers **Edit - I meant section 4****
  2. If you confuse Sky and Skype then you are a muppet
  3. Hello Not sure if this is the best forum but…. We have an internal SharePoint site, the URL is forced out via Group policies for IE and chrome. All PC’s, laptops have both. Clients get DHCP address, depending on which VLAN they are on. They all get the same DNS servers. I have a laptop by the side of me that is refusing to browse to my SharePoint site, with either IE or Chrome. I have attached a screen grab. This laptop is domain joined like every other device. I can browse to any other website internal or external. If I ping the SharePoint site / server with FQDN it returns the correct IP address so DNS is working. It’s not user specific as it happens if I use a student account or my Domain admin account. Why is the error page displaying “Localhost.localdomain” that’s not my domain name? It has happened on the odd other PC at random times. I have just put it onto a different VLAN which has got round the problem. With this laptop at the moment, it’s not making any difference. Its been on 3 different VLANS, I have given it a static IP address and manual entries for DNS
  4. Theft or not theft its all just semantics AQA sold the CD with terms and conditions ie “Don’t make copies” So just don’t. Its not hard to get your head around. Just buy another copy, simple no! Maybe next time the person wanting it copied should read the small print
  5. assume if a user was using the desktop apps, for onedrive, google or dropbox etc then got infected the encrypted files would then sync up to the cloud
  6. If the holiday companies played fair with prices there would be none of this in the first place.
  7. On 4 PCs i have run SIMSInfrastructuresetup.exe nothing else it fixed it on all 4 PC's
  8. I wish there was a thumbs down button for your post :-) Update last night - exams module not working grrrrr
  9. That's exactly why our school started to run them. We consistently have poor A*. - C numbers. This was seen as a way to boost these numbers. There was no exam prep for the students. They were just put into it blind so to speak
  10. You do have to have some locally stored files. Video editing. Staff and students seem to do a lot of it here.
  11. The is just priceless. Not heard anything from BCS support with the problems with the ECDL test. Wait two weeks and they close the case. Wish I could run my help desk like they do. Put your head in the sand, hide for two weeks then close the case. Your support ticket (xxx) has been marked as solved. Please do not reply to this email unless you want to keep this ticket open You can re-open it any time in the next 2 weeks by replying to this email. If you reply after this period, a new ticket will be created.
  12. Ditto "fobbed off with the same information to check our network and configuration" Raised a case with them on 22/4 no response. We finished this round of testing now, which is a result. They were no help during the actual tests either when the problem happens. Just check you network, suspend and restart the test. aarrgghh
  13. I hve to agree
  14. Pretty much the same reaction most of my teachers have to a computer on their desk yesterday
  15. Hi Cheers, Nope QoS is not on on my servers. I'm going to say it and see what happens :-) Its not happened here since the 2nd Feb
  16. Morning Claydoc, Sorry mate. no luck here. Happened here two days ago again. This time it was a server that had never done it before. A quick reboot sorted it. I just can't shed any light on it. nothing in the event logs, nothing on my VM cluster. Started to record date / times it was happening and to what server. there is no pattern. Not much help, I'm at a total loss. Cheers
  17. I do have a 100mb connection on a 1GB bearer so can up my speed but the connection is not the best. I would need another redundant line to maintain services. But that second line would have to be paid for by us, way way to many pennies.
  18. Good god Your screwed [emoji19]
  19. I'm sure there are lots of us compiling long lists or questions :-)
  20. I don't agree with this statement, not sure if other people do or not but I don't see how get the fact that by making schools go cloud it's a better thing and I'm not being funny but yes it might make it easier for pupils to access resources and thats all it is just because office 365 is in the cloud doesn't mean the a number of pupils are going to get a better result or understand a peice of homework because it's in the cloud I have got this wrong I don't know. I have been in education for over 10 years and I think this is a bad mistake. Wasnt there a report a very short while ago that techonology made no difference overall to exam results. If you fundamentally have poor teachers, very poor leadership it makes no difference where the serevrs are held! How many schools / primarys have the funds for duel diverse routed broudband connection
  21. Online exams like Pearson won't make exam software for Linux. They make a hash of it on Windows for starters
  22. Typical should have kept my mouth shut. The server that was behaving itself is not now. Same thing happened. Quick reboot back to normal. *bangs head on desk*
  23. Not had it happen for a while till yesterday. The server that it was happening to has been good. Yesterday it happened to my SIMS server rebooted it which sorted it for 1/2 hour. Spent last night checking again could not find anything. Fingers crossed for today
  24. I have had issues with office saving. Not sure if it's the same prob but here is the link on edugeek http://www.edugeek.net/showthread.php?t=162128
