When staff take students on schools trips they have to take medical info, emergency contact details etc. in case something happens. At the moment it’s just bits of paper in an envelope Just looking for the best ways to handle this. I was thinking of extracting info from SIMS and storing the report in office 365. The staff could take in iPad which they could then access the info should the need arise. At least if the iPad is lost / stolen there is no data on it. I know it’s not fool proof, no 3 or 4G, no wifi. Any thoughts

My sysvol replication (DFSR) had a hiccup after an unexpected shutdown. Everything seems to be replication fine now. I create a dummy GPO and it replicates fine. When I delete the GPO it deletes the GPO from all domain controllers (I have 3). Running this command For /f %i IN ('dsquery server -o rdn') do @echo %i && @wmic /node:"%i" /namespace:\\root\microsoftdfs path dfsrreplicatedfolderinfo WHERE replicatedfoldername='SYSVOL share' get replicationgroupname,replicatedfoldername,state 2 DC’s report a state of 4, one reports a state of 3 The DC with a state of 3 has an error in the event viewer 4312. There is one policy in the sysvol that is not on the other DC’s {1E154276-3C16-457C-AE4F-0F8AEBDBF9E1} Looking through my Group policy objects there is no GPO with that GUID. And it does not appear in the sysvols on the other domain controllers. Assuming {1E154276-3C16-457C-AE4F-0F8AEBDBF9E1} is the problem, I tried to delete it but I don’t have permissions. I cannot even take ownership as an enterprise admin. Any ideas how to get rid of it? Cheers

Having just spoken to the ICO, currently, as we are still under the DPA ,we are OK to transfer data to US (Accelerated Reader) if there is a data shield in place, which there is. The ICO were quiet clear, when the GDPR comes into force we may well not be compliant if we continue to use Accelerate Reader. The ICO said the law around EU-US privacy and GDPR is still being refined but we the (The School) may well have to draw up an “Approved code of Conduct” clause (under article 40 I think it was) to continue to use them. They will need to agree and sign the contract. ICO suggest keeping an eye on their site for updates and clarifications. As the response from Accelerated reader above says, they are looking at their own compliance with regards to GDPR and they move the data to the UK

Hello, I have never had any problem with running my SIMS on vmware. I done a P2V conversion in 2009. I do a nightly backup to 2 separate location with Veeam. I still have the normal SIMS backup routing running which backups up the databases. These I then have a scheduled task move to another location. I cant think of any ‘gotchas’ that have put a spanner in the work. Which has now probably put a curse on it 

Just been asked to upload student data to Accelerated Reader. Just reading their privacy policy, Seems the data i upload will be held in the US. Is there anything in GDPR that the data MUST be within the EU? Cheers

Morning, Anyone have any advice on how long CCTV footage of students fighting should be kept? Just thinking of a scenario, the two students have had a fight both receiving blows to the head. We have a copy of the footage stored on network, only SLT have access). The students are dealt with, expelled (or made year group leader **don't ask**). Both were checked out by school nurse. Should we be keeping this footage, for say a year, in case a “medical problem” arises in one of those that have had a fight? Where’s there’s blame there’s a claim! Cheers

Cheers, I dont think their responce is good enough to be honest. I agree with you they shoudl also ensure the data is correct as well. I have started discussions about ditching SMHW with SLT and we plod along with GDPR

Had an issue where a student’s foster parents changed and the new foster parents wanted access to the students SMH. SIMS was updated to the new parents but within SMH the old parents were still showing. I contacted SMH who replied with a link Parent Data is no longer pulled from SIMS. Worries me that things could get missed and become a manual process. Foster parents change but previous carers still have access. If relying on a PIN / activation code that will create up to 5 accounts that are linked to students I can see things going wrong. We send the PIN home Mum and Dad sign up, they lose the code or throw it away, its easy for 3 more people to sign in. Seems like a data protection nightmare to me?

Hello, Is consent needed once students reach 13 for photos etc, i thought it was? My data manager says its from 16 and she is adamant about it cheers

Sorry I wasn't clear enough. These are policies that have been added or updated to our policy area internally and to the school website. And I don't mean individual members of staff signing them, its the policy itself. Should the SLT / governor that devises the new policy sign it to make it legally enforceable. and when it have been updated?

Be interested in this as I am getting it randomly. The majority of PCs & laptops don't have a problem so I know the permissions on the GPO are ok and the GPO is readable. I can gpupdate and reboot and all policies are the applied.

Hi, Thanks for all the replies. Its now sorted. NRS reverted back to an older SYNC client. It appears, whatever changes Parent pay made, the latest NRS sync tool would not work. Thanks again

Cheers Rad There has been no changes on our system, no proxy changes, no webfiltering changes, no firewall changes and its all has been working fine I have now turned off the firewall just to double make sure. Another day and its still not working
