  2. Satan: Aaaand this is the lake of lava where you'll be spending eternity. Me: Actually, because we're underground, it's magma not lava. Satan: You do know that's why you're here, right? Thought this belonged here
  3. The other day this fella came into the hotel and asked to see the manager. When the manager came to reception, the story began. Guest: "Is room 139 empty?" Manager: "Yes, sir." Guest: "Can I book it?" Manager: "Of course you can." Guest: "Thank you." Before going to the room, the guest asked the manager to provide him with a black knife, a white thread of exactly 39 centimetres in length and an orange weighing exactly 73 grams. The manager agreed though he was surprised at the weird things the guest asked to have. The guest went into his room and didn't ask for food or anything else. Unfortunately for the manager, his room was next to room 139. After midnight, the manager heard strange voices and noise in that guest's room. The sounds of wild animals and utensils and dishes being thrown on the floor. The manager didn't sleep that night. He kept thinking and wondering what might be the source of the noise. In the morning, when the guest handed the keys back to reception, the manager asked to see the room first. He went to the room and found everything alright. Nothing unusual. He even found the thread, the black knife and the orange on the table. The guest paid the bill and gave the porter a very good tip and left the hotel smiling. The manager was in a shock but he didn't reveal what he heard to the staff. In fact, he started to doubt himself. A year later, the guest showed up again. He asked to see the manager again. The guest asked the same things: room 139, a black knife, a white thread of exactly 39 centimetres in length and an orange weighing exactly 73 grams. This time, the manager wanted to know the truth by all means possible. He spent a sleepless night, waiting for something to happen. After midnight, the same voices and noises started, this time louder and more indecipherable than the year before. Again, before leaving, the guest paid his bill and left a large tip on the table for the porter. The smile didn't leave his face. The manager started searching for the meaning of everything the client asked to have. Why did he ask room 139? Why the white thread?? Why the black knife??? In fact, the manager didn't arrive to any convincing answer to any of these questions. The manager now was eagerly awaiting the arrival of the month of March, the month in which the guest showed up. True to form, on the first day of March the same guest showed up. He asked the same questions, wanted to book the same room, wanted to have the same things as before. The manager again heard the same noises, this time louder again than before. In the morning when the guest was leaving the hotel, the manager apologised profusely to the guest and asked to know the secret behind the noises in the room. ''If I tell you the secret, do you promise to never reveal it to anyone else?'' ''I promise I will never let anyone know''. "Swear?'' ''I swear I won't reveal your secret'' Finally, the guest revealed his secret to the hotel manager. The manager is a sincere, trustworthy person and until now he hasn't revealed his secret to anyone... When he does, I'll let you know.
  4. drove the car so carefully he got bored and went off for a nap
  5. Nah had one once - don;t care how cheap they are they cost a fortune afterwards
  6. Reminds me of a fair they used to (and maybe still do) run in Menai Bridge on Anglesey On one day they basically close down the whole main streey and the fair and associated market We went along There was an amazing thing which took a capsule up high on a big tower then dropped it so that is bounced on heavy duty bungy jump cables The sign on the thing said "Europe's One and only reverse ejection seat" in massive letters!! The fair was soooo incredibly good that the not only had one of these there was another identical one about 200 yards away my daughter and I thought it was hilarious her Mum - not so amused

  8. I would get downvoted many many time for doing 29 in the 30 limit going past our estate - judging by the number of drivers who seem to take exception to it and as for the 20 limit on the main road approaching the grandkids house!!!!!!
  9. I have just been told that the new version - which becomes current on Saturday - is not out in print yet and may not be until March I know most people who read the HC are about to take their test - and are therefore mostly young - and therefore mostly are used to doing things online however, I would expect it to be available in print at least a few weeks before becoming current
  10. Try this one HMS Roberts I think I do have to say though - if you need this OFSTED might want to talk to you about your discipline systems? (this comment was brought to you by the EDUGEEK pedantry and stupid comments department)
  11. I had one from BT OpenReach this morning I answered with a bit of a sigh and asked what he wanted he hung up - maybe an exasperated sigh is a good reponse shame I didn;t get to find out if there was a problem with my broadband or if he was going to help me with a problem detected on my computer
  12. Back to the topic There is a big motorway roundabout near here - and there is a pavement around about half of it - which is also a cycle path The roundabout is the normal huge affair and the traffic can be quite heavy the pavement/cyclepath goes over the part where the traffic joins the slip road going down to the M62 I cannot see any cars giving way to walkers or cyclists waiting to cross at that point - - and if they did I would worry whether the cars behind them will realise. mostly it seems to make sense - but someone doesn;t seem to have gone through all the possibilities
  13. WHAT!! THAT'S AMAZING!! that one thing is going to save us a fortune in Mrs mikeprice's show leather!! Thanks for letting us know
  14. A lot of headlines in 'some' newspapers are rather alarmist e.g. one was saying that you can be fined for opening your door with the wrong hand total whatsit a lot of the 'new' stuff is not new - it is just re-emphasising stuff that was already there for example cyclist have always been advised to 'take primary' (i.e. ride in the middle of the lane) in order to be safer and prevent drivers passing in a manner that may be unsafe - it is just that now it is made clearer it does not mean - and does not say - that cyclists should always ride in the middle of the lane - but some newspapers are saying that You need to look carefully at when it says 'should' and when it says 'must' a lot of the stuff in the headlines actually goes to bits that say 'should' - i.e. not legally necessary - but a guideline However, if you ignore it and there is an 'accident' then it could be used to show you were not driving properly As far as the pedestrian at a junction is concerned - if I am turning into the estate where I live then I always give way to pedestrians not because of the new rules but for 2 other reasons a) the pedestrian may be a moron - I have had too many that just walk out without looking - so I generally just let them go just in case they just GO after all - I don;t want their head denting my bonnet!!!! b) in this estate parking on the pavement is normal - and turning into it often means a car/van will be parked within a few yards of the turn and there is a right angle turn within 20 yards - so ultra slow speed is essential on approach and there are enough possible problems without worrying about what a pedestrian is going to do anyway is is quite simple If I am on my bike - don;t hit me
  15. and no - I didn;t make this although I wish I had
  16. People in Dubai don’t like the Flintstones but people in Abu Dhabi Do.
  17. Lots of great images I really should work out a safe way to carry my cameras on my bike poor thing has bounced across a road a few times so I'm not risking it anymore also - putting in a bag attached to the bike results in a lot of bumpyness - also not ideal I must ask for a solution on a cycle forum!
  18. Nah - not doing that getting married once was enough stress and bother not doing it again - let alone arranging it then cancelling it and being expected to sort it all out again and anyway - I think Mrs mikeprice would be rather annoyed if I even thought about getting married - frogs would be the least of my problems - I have always suspected a rather large percentage of women from around here have rather too much belief in things outside the normal accepted belief system as taught in schools - in spite of being good Catholic girls when they enter a church (other main stream religions are available - not my area of expertise)
  19. A few days late - but the idea of stopping pupils needing to wear masks in class is just yet another reason why I cannot risk 'helping out' by starting teaching again apart from the fact that I would be a rubbish supply teacher anyway that is! not sure they have put together the concepts about a) no longer wear masks b) ask retired - and hence older - people to 'help out' by starting to teach again what could possibly go wrong!
  20. Hardly surprising - I always thought they were aiming at a market that was bound to suffer as soon as they got some serious competition and I have seen a few systems recently that seem cheaper, just as good and more sport focussed - e.g. cycling and running etc at least - that is what people have said on cycling forums - I have not tried any of these myself - as those I have met IRL might have guessed
  21. Better behaviours policy with clear repercussions for offenders with zero re-offending rate and you cut the food bill from the canteen at the same time! sounds like a winner to me
  22. Well I suppose it was obvious that someone would come up with something about penguins and I think we all knew who it would be!!!
  23. OR WILL IT!!!! I have heard that someone on the internet is hinting that maybe it will stop!!! do your own research!!!! don;t trust the experts listen to the penguins (I have no idea why I said that???)
  24. Extra point - if they are 42% silver - wouldn't that make them rather heavy and in flexible or is silver not what I mean by silver
